Pedro to call it quits after this season?: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2460561

Useless (?) trivia department: Apparently, the only other pitcher to no-hit the Royals was Nolan Ryan in '73.

I think Ray Schalk caught 4 with the White Sox. ed. Sir S. beats me to it....

Pretty cool of K.C. pitcher Brian Bannister: http://www.kansascity.com/180/story/627285-p2.html

The "Tough Mama" is pretty damn sweet. Garcia Band always did a very nice cover of it, as well. Excellent lyrics, too.

I hit record on the dvr at the beginning of the 8th (retroactive to the third inning when I tuned in) and watched the final outs/aftergame stuff several times last night. It was really cool to see the congratulatory hugs (especially from Francona and the absolutely beaming grin from 'Tek) given to Lester, who looked dazed and elated at the same time.

My brother called from CT between the 8th and 9th innings just to remind me: "no talking in the dug out." I was surprised that he called me as I had called him in 2003 during the ALCS about five minutes before Boone hit the homer to say "looks like we've got this wrapped up."

I was in a few Dylan pools, as well. Though I can't remember my handle right now.

Yeah!

Happy belated birthday.

I suppose P&F would have to slip in Mars Hotel somewhere, too. "Pride of Cucamunga" and all....

I've heard he's possibly going to forge into Workingman's Dead and American Beauty, maybe into Wake of the Flood and Terrapin with Donna, too (haven't seen last night's set list yet). Who knows. I do know he's playing a free show in Sioux City, Iowa at a band shell. Only a ten hour drive from Denver!

Cheers, good man!

It's not a typical run-of-the-mill self-help book in any sense. It's not sappy/syrupy and really just deals with ego and how the ego affects us. I suppose it is a self-helper as it does help the person reading it to be introspective and to consider some fairly complex issues about the Self- but that's fine by me. Really, any good book does that anyway.

re: the Eckhart Tolle book, A New Earth I'm just shy of 100 pages and find it absolutely fascinating. It's more of a psychology-based book than I thought it would be. It basically addresses the hinderances of an ego-based society in terms of such things as war, diplomacy, profession, etc. as well as with personality, relationships, parenting, etc. It references major religions and the self often. It's definitely a book that makes me think. It's hard to argue with a lot of his observations. It may not be for everybody but it works for me. Pretty philosophical at times, too.

The Lenny Dykstra piece on Real Sports a few months back was one of the best things I've witnessed in a while.

In the underrated category I really enjoy New Moring and the first one. That first one actually is excellent.

I recorded that last night. Gammons told a brief story how Manny gets his custom-made suits at a place in Newbury and as tradition with custom-made suits, they put the buyer's initials on the inside right breast pocket. Manny has "M.B.M." put on all his suits: Manny Being Manny. Like him or not, he's a certain for the HOF and still an amazing player with a few good years left in him. I think his arm in the OF makes up for his lack of range, too.

It's still possible to pick up a cd and listen the shit out of it, though. Self control, gentlemen.

I love my iPod unconditionally. Really. It's 160 GB and I haven't had time to fill more than half yet but it's something to look forward to doing. When in doubt- I just don't use it.

Cheers, man!

Food prices going up...package sizes going down..
Lammycat replied to remphish1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Food prices at the grocery store have gone up, too, particularly in the produce/dairy section. I still don't mind paying $2. 79/lb. for organic Pink Lady apples or $1.89/head of good romaine lettuce.
