  1. Ahem. I actually grew up right outside of New Haven (Toad's Place) and have been to the dive many times. The Stones have done a surprise show there before (lock the doors, whoever's inside=bonus) as have other bands. I'd be happy to burn and send copies (assuming someone could do the same), as well.
  2. You may be correct. I think the rule is when handwritten, you should underline a word that's supposed to be italicized, unless it's in a title. When printed, it's italicized. Or something. Dammit... ....CALIBER!!!!!
  3. Hey man, I try to follow proper APA format whenever possible. One never knows when Caliber is going to pop his head into a thread....
  4. Thanks. My older boy (on the right) wears hearing aids and he's getting a little self-conscious so he's opting for the Shaun Cassidy look....
  5. Ooh, I like the new cover to The Proud Highway.
  6. Just got some proofs today of my two boys. If it looks like they have stripes, alas it is not because dad mated with a zebra....
  7. 8-28-97, Red Rocks A very good friend (whom I had known for only 2 years at the time) was good friends with their stage manager, John Parker ("JP"). Wilco was opening for Sheryl Crow and he gave us a couple of all-access/backstage passes. We got to hang on the stage and down in the bowels of backstage Red Rocks, which was a treat in itself. I had heard a bit about the band at the time but the show solidified the life-long love for what they do.... 1. Misunderstood 2. Red-Eyed And Blue 3. I Got You (At The End Of The Century) 4. 9. I agree with Gonzalez getting shanked on the award. Had he been able to play an additional 25-40 games I'm not so sure the ball-wash job on Jeter would've not still taken place, though.
  10. I don't feel it's always been a popularity vote. I believe it was '98 or '99 that Raphael Palmiero won one for playing about 30 games at first and DHing the rest of his games that it became evident that the award is not based on legitimacy. Some of the players on this year's list (in their respective positions) may be questionable, but I think a decent argument could be made for their selections. With Jeter, I simply don't see a legitimate argument.
  11. Jeter had a very good year, but defensively has declined the last few years. He was an average-to-just-below-average fielder last season. Alex Gonzalez was much better defensively. Juan Uribe was much better defensively. Heck, Bobby Crosby was much better defensively. I would have pegged either Gonzalez or Uribe for the award. Jeter would be down near the bottom of the AL list. The GG award appears to have gone the way of the popularity vote.
  12. Sweet. I'll have to check the links when I get home from work.
  13. Almost done with this book on Jane's Addiction/Perry Farrell: compiled strictly from interviews with the band, family, friends. Lots-o-drugs, sex, rock star indulgence, etc. but a nice perspective on their impact/influence of late 80s/early 90s rock. Just started this one on John Brown, radical American patriot who dedicated every waking moment to racial equality in the time surrounding the Civil War. Ever since I finished reading the excellent Manhunt, I've been on a slight Civil War-era jag for books. This one is very well written, too:
  14. Rose Hill Drive, from Boulder, CO. A bunch of young guys who straight out rock, old-school. I'd add that having a commercial use your tune is not a big deal these days, what with the nature of the beast technology is. T.v. seems to be a viable source of promoting one's music these days, weather it's ad spots or sound clips of t.v. shows, made-for-t.v. movies, etc.
  15. Yeah, well, it's the chick from 3Non Blondes with the most annoying tune ever written speaking here, folks. Let's not take the Dylan comparisons worth more than if Chuck Manson told an interviewer he's a "people" person. Courtney Love is surely an annoying celeb, but I find I'm able to listen to some of her tunes with great ease. I like Celebrity Skin quite a bit, whether most was written by Cobain, Corgan, or whomever.
  16. I had that cranked in the car with the whole family on the way to a party on Saturday (one of the few tunes off of God Ween Satan that I can comfortably play with my kids present). Yeah, pretty happy tune though.
  17. I've always liked Minutemen and liked the firehose stuff to a lesser degree. I saw Watt with Banyan 2 weeks ago. The man's played with a lot of musicians and plays the bass like it owes him money, and always comes across as humble. He's a nice guy, to boot.
  18. When I got in my car for work this morning and the tunes started playing, I realized it was "We're Just Friends." I thought it was pretty cool that the local station was playing such an off-the-beaten-track Wilco tune, so I went to see what station it was. Low and behold, I'd forgotten I'd popped in "Summerteeth" last night on the way to a meeting. There's a great station out here called The Mountain that seems to have a "just play cool stuff" format and very few commercials. Although I don't listen to a lot of radio, when I do it's this one. They'll play Wilco every now and then, and not th
  19. As soon as I've got a free hour or so, I'll hop on this for you. Yeesh.
  20. Ah, Playin' in the Band. More of a scrapbook-style book than the one I'm referencing. The Blakesberg book is more a professional photography book.
  21. How about a "No Breathing Day"? For various reasons, of course.
