Yeah, a few days ago there were both the Rhett Miller opening set and the Old 97's main set from a recent show up on DIME. But I've only seen the one date posted.

I like the overall sound and feel of SBS better, but it has a few duds on it, whereas W(TA) doesn't have any songs I feel like skipping (at least not yet). I vote W(TA) by a nose.

Caught them at the Black Cat in DC last night. Great show--they are a surprisingly tight band, considering they haven't played together all that much. Neff's work on pedal steel and on lead guitar was terrific. It didn't have near the energy of a DBT show, in part because of the number of ballads, and in part because the crowd was a bit lame, but probably the best $15 I'll spend this year. In addition to most of "Oscar," they played Big Star's Kangaroo, DBT's Feb. 14 and Something's Gotta Give Pretty Soon, as well as some songs I didn't recognize. I'm almost certain they'll play the single, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear "Sonny Feeling." If they bust out BBN, I'll be shocked, but pleasantly so.

IIRC, Nels played a double-neck guitar on "Someday Soon" last February at the 9:30. If you listen to the show (2/27/08) Jeff comments on it, to the effect of only Nels being cool enough to pull it off.

I live in DC and gave up local radio the day WHFS went Spanish. Actually, probably before that, but that was the nail in the coffin. Anyway, I haven't heard W(TA) on the radio per se, but I heard "You Never Know" on XM (the Spectrum, ch. 45) the other day. I expect it will get pretty heavy play there.

I don't think Steven Van Zandt is a shill for the big labels at all. Quite the contrary, he thinks they've all made a huge mistake by putting all their emphasis on hip-hop, bubble-gum pop, and whatever the hell it is that Gwen Stefani does. He loves the stuff that he considers to be rock-n-roll, and wants to preserve the rock-n-roll spirit for future generations. Good for him. What bugs me about Little Stevie, though, is that he has a pretty narrow conception of what "rock-n-roll" is. He seems obsessed with the past, and fails to recognize the great rock bands that are out there today.

I had Kicking Television in my car CD player for about 2 years. I never really got tired of it, but my wife sure did.

When I saw your headline I thought you were going to post that Dianne Feinstein was a Wilco fan. That would have been odd.

Me too, and I donated on behalf of Wilco. I hope other downloaders do the same, so the band will continue to have a positive attitude about these leaks.

Great show last night. The guys played pretty much all the songs from "This Is Spinal Tap," in new and awesome arrangements. Plenty of stories/banter/video clips, along with a brief session of Q/A with the audience. I don't have a set list, but in addition to the Spinal Tap stuff (including Thamesmen, New Originals, etc.), they played stuff from A Mighty Wind. The show went for about 2 hours in all. Highlights for me: a read-through of NBC's edits as required for showing "This Is Spinal Tap" on late-night TV, Sex Farm, Stonehenge, and a brilliant folk cover of the Stones' Start Me Up.

No time like the present. In fact, I think it's time to start a thread about Pitchfork's review of it. Those stupid hipsters don't know a great album when they hear one, even if it hasn't come out yet.

I think any venue is a good venue to see Wilco, except maybe a big stadium. I've seen them in a 7,000-seat amphitheatre and a 1,100-person SRO club, and I would gladly do either or both again.

Yes, but the reports don't indicate who else (if anyone) is being sued, nor do they explain why Jeff would be responsible for anything to do with the Sam Jones movie, or what arrangements (if any) Jay alleges he made for payment for his songwriting contributions. Jay would have spelled out his side of the story in the complaint, and done so in a way to explain why, e.g. the statute of limitations or the absence of a written agreement don't preclude his claim.
