Just had surgery the other day and it was a trip, not like last surgery I had about 25 years ago to remove tonsils. I was in by 6am and out by high noon. I was put under, the Doc cut my neck open, removed a growth (lovely), glued me up, and sent me home. Glue! Not stitches, but glue! And then percocet, which I only needed for one day. Within 24 hours, back to "normal".
