  1. Based on 2 songs and 1 minute of music this is going to be good. Wilco had the misfortune to follow them at Sasquatch in 2005 just after they were breaking out.
  2. Not to split hairs but I think it's a studio version. It was a b-side and I think also collected on "Dead Letter Office".
  3. Slightly disappointed there is no live show with this one. I have a feeling that the Demo's won't add much to the originals. By contrast REM toured like demons in 1985 and played a some killer covers of "See No Evil", "Paint It Black" and "Toys In The Attic" along the way.
  4. On heavy rotation: LCD Soundsystem - "This Is Happening" Gorillaz "Plastic Beach" Steve Mason (ex-Beta Band) - "Boys Outside" Aretha Franklin - "Rare and Unreleased" Gil Scot Heron "I'm A Stranger Here Myself" Broken Bells - "Eponymous" Brian Wilson ' Smile" Phoenix "Live From Sydney" Wilco "Live From Boston 4/10 Bootleg" 2010 is in my humble opinion on track to be a far better year than 2009 already. Looking forward to the US release of Paul Weller's "Wake Up The Nation" in 2 weeks time.
  5. Merci beaucoup! 40 odd songs - lots of stuff rarely played and great sound quality. Just listening to the acoustic set. Brilliant! Thanks again.
  6. Nice double-neck guitar for Jay and Billy Bragg must have found it tough to keep his gob shut for three minutes
  7. Was in NZ for the first time in March (not too far away in Nelson). Lovely, lovely country. Glad to hear that this was a fantastic show and the Kiwi's got a big dose of Wilco love.
  8. Agreed. First few listens left me a tad underwhelmed but a month later it's definitely a current favourite.
  9. After watching 500 Days of Summer I won't hear a word said against Zoey Deschanel. Goy-jus to the nth degree. Her marriage to Ben Gibbard is testament to the reason why anyone should be in a band to showcase their talents. The chance to date or even better marry someone way out of your league in any other scenario.
  10. Hope everyone has a great time at the show. Jealous that you'll get a whole evening of Wilco. Think there's a good chance that attendees will hear a Big Star cover to honour the passing of Alex Chilton.
  11. If you don't like James Mercer I don't think you'll like it. To me it sounds like 2/3 rds James Mercer and 1/3 Danger Mouse.
  12. Agree in large part with your views. Think the new album is a lot better than its predecessor but U2 are as much a corporation now as a band. I have railed about it before but the carbon monstrosity that it their current tour is ridiculous given Bono's work for and advocacy for the people of Africa. The very people who may suffer most from global climate change. The lucrative contract they signed with Live Nation (who are completely loathsome) dictated a return to stadiums which in turn dictated building the giant crabs or whatever they are called. And how laughable that the band who relea
  13. Totally agree. The mid-section of the album is really good. Wish like some of my friends I was going to see them at Coachella. Bought the Broken Bells album on the same day and its ahead in my affections now. First few times it's a tad underwhelming but after repeated listens I really like it. Not too different from the Shins but Danger Mouse's production, keyboard playing and affects add a nice mellow psychedelic sheen to the songs.
  14. Being a bit harsh on yourself there. The EPL is arguably the toughest league in the world. The team who has the most points at the end of the season deserves to be Champions. Arsenal do so much better on the road now than they have for several seasons.
  15. I'd be happy with that too. Would be funny given that they have been beaten by Chelsea and Man Utd both home and away and conceded something like ten goals in those games. Inter just did every team in the Champions League a massive favour today. Wouldn't mind an outside bet on Lyon going all the way.
  16. Easy to hate Beckham but I think he should have been in the squad. There isn't a better crosser in the modern game. A great asset on the subs bench, tons of experience and just the person you want delivering the ball to the forwards in the last 15 minutes of a tight game. On a separate note, this might be the most interesting EPL season in years. Fingers-crossed that both the battle for the top-spot and fourth place go to the last weekend. My favourites Liverpool score 4 goals for the first time in six months. I don't think they are going to get fourth place though. It's somewhat obv
  17. Paramount is now run by the Seattle Theater Group which I am guessing means union employees in the theatre and union-negotiated curfews. Still a fantastic venue.
  18. I got excited when I saw this topic because I thought maybe someone was going to say they announced a reunion or something! I loved Jellyfish in the day...
  19. You must see "Anvil, The Story of Movie", one of the best documentaries to come out last year and a brilliant, funny and moving account of a Canadian heavy metal band still trying to make it big three decades into their existence. http://www.anvilthemovie.com/
  20. Both fair comments. I thought especially on songs like "California Stars" and "Jesus etc" the keyboards had more prominence than previously. And how could the current version of Wilco not be well-oiled especially on the core songs that make the back-bone of the set given how long this version of the band has been around and the number of shows they have done. What was more striking was the perfect rendition of Neil Young's "Broken Arrow. When I saw them in Seattle, I don't think i have heard a better version of "IATTBYH" and loved the way this segued into "One Wing". In Victoria and just
  21. Extra lanes added at the border so it was a combined 30 minutes. Other tips. Got a cheap motel in Bellingham on Friday night and Saturday night (coachman - clean and perfectly fine) allowing one long day in Vancouver. Parked car in Richmond and took sky-train in which worked out really well. Look for tkts on craigslist or we got tix released after game had started for curling. All in all. Brilliant atmosphere and well worth it. Article below from Seattle Times was super-useful. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/travel/2011116873_webolympictips18.html
  22. Briiliant game. Went to Vancouver for the day yesterday. Blue skies, one of the most stunning cities in the world, massive crowds on the street and got to see two events (hockey and curling). Fan-bloody-tastic!!!!!!More than anything the sense of joy and pride emanating from the hosts and all Canadians there was something to behold. And again, Vancouver on a clear, sunny day in February can't but help put a massive smile on your face.
  23. Decidedly boring line-up. I know there's a dance tent this year and some good local hip-hop but they should really rename Sasquatch the KEXP festival in honour of the Seattle based radio show whose daytime indie tastes are overly catered to in the line-up most every year now. Even KEXP morning Dj John Richards commented on the fact that this year's line-up is made up of bands that KEXP play a lot. Compared to Coachella, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and even the newer Outside Lands Festival there's a lack of diversity that has become the standard for Sasquatch. Part of the fun of a festival
