  1. Pretty much reflects the demographic shift the country has gone through.
  2. Well NBC's projections currently have Obama at 243. That means if Fla. goes blue, he gets his 2nd term. I wish him nothing but success if it goes that way.
  3. Holy crap, Fla... Obama went up by as much as 50,000 (by NBC's count) but now back w/in 20,000.
  4. Some stupid, but funny, Michael Ian Black Schtick http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=F8MR2OHkP5Y
  5. This post reminded me it had been quite some time since I read Bryson. Hilarious stuff so far. Love his description of Appalachian Hillbillies. Something like, "fueled by impure corn liquor and lots of un-Biblical sex".
  6. It's very sincere, no doubt. And Mitt is smart enough to know that if he, as a candidate, not president, flew into N.J. to lend a hand, no matter how well-intentioned, it wouldn't appear sincere. So what else can he do besides campaign?
  7. Fair points, but I think Mitt is right to ignore right now. People will react with emotion.
  8. It also reminds me of how rarely you hear about this review of the 2000 Florida vote. http://www.nytimes.c...ics/12VOTE.html
  9. Thinking about another close election has me thinking about this guy.
  10. Romney's got lots of mo, the electoral college is not in his favor. If Obama doesn't mess up the storm recovery bad, it won't be enough. Wouldn't be surprised Romney won the popular, but Obama the electoral.
  11. Except that these states don't get as much pull in congress as ny, tx, ca, etc.
  12. You're kidding, right? The candidates would go from L.A., to N.Y., to Chicago, to Houston, to Miami, to D.C. Any state with fewer than 10 congressional districts would be completely ignored. Period. Simple as that. As far as being anyone's proxy, I have no idea how Jules feels about the electoral college and I really don't care.
  13. If our Constitution were being written today, our leaders would have been too dumb to come up with the electoral college. State issues matter. The electoral college is a brilliant way to give ALL the people a voice, but force the candidates to address issues state by state. I am glad our founding fathers also had the foresight to make it difficult to amend the Constitution so this will hang around for awhile. I recently heard of a legislative proposal to work around the electoral college w/o amending the Constitution. I hope that fails as well. I am admittedly biased being from a fairly
  14. George W. was dumb. Not every Republican is dumb. Mitt certainly had some help from his dad, but one doesn't build up a business reputation like his and get elected as the Republican governor of Maasachusetts by being anything less than smart as a tack. Right now, he's trying to get elected by appealing to the base and draw in lots of independents and moderates, so he often falters or waffles in his statements. Obama is very smart, but I don't think it's the slam dunk you think it is. Sorry for answering before Jules.
  15. We're dumb, you're smart. You should feel compassion for us rather than disdain.
  16. Hasn't that been well established already? IRDB sure thinks so.
  17. I play my kids (7 year old boy girl twins), all sorts of music I like. Wilco, Old 97's, The Band, Beatles, and "kindie" rock (mostly Justin Roberts and Dan Zanes). Nevertheless, they have glommed onto the tween pop scene. I am confident that someday, they will want to return to the good stuff.
