  1. has anyone picked up the album? it must be an indie record store only thing as i can't find it. i'll have to order it online. i think the whole album is still streaming at his Myspace page though. i was very surprised by the amount of synths on several songs, so i'll have to hear it some more before i know what i think.
  2. was it your first Eels record? it just seems like pretty basic rock, no surprises really or uniqueness in relation to his prior catalog.
  3. all i saw was a 2 min trailer - is the whole thing up there, too? the song in that trailer - the title track i presume - isn't too great. sounds like something that could have been on Shootenanny! - which i don't care too much for. pretty basic rock more or less with kinda hoaky lyrics. that cut Agony on Shootenanny! is great though.
  4. He and Michael Stipe were supposed to do something together I believe. I think I was at school during what we called "T period" and they would air that school news show that I'm drawing a blank on and the news came on there. Channel One? I listened to mostly r&b (Boyz II Men) and light rap (MC Hammer) until I was on a school band trip in 8th grade to Six Flags and I borrowed a cassette single of Smells Like Teen Spirit and I loved it. Then STP came out with Purple and I kept seeing their Vasoline video and liked that and that was the first of many grunge related albums I got at the t
  5. here's a question: are the CD's from the mid-80's to now the exact Stereo mixes that were on the original vinyl releases or were those remixed at that time?
  6. anyone have an opinion on John Anderson? very unique voice, but i like it. i don't own anything by him, but i generally like all the songs of his they play on the classic country station.
  7. the albums up until Pepper were all under 40 minutes i believe, so they could have easily included both stereo and mono on each since they're not giving bonus tracks. i think people would prefer that over the documentaries - no idea how much space that takes on a disc - which could be a seperate dvd/doc altogether (now).
  8. when i was walking around Hasting's the other day i saw that 2 CD reissue of Dwight's Guitars and Cadillacs, etc. etc. for $5.99 brand new I think, so you may look for that if you're interested.
  9. no stereo/mono? i guess no bonus tracks either? probably like Dylan's catalog has been remastered i guess. i won't be getting just plain remasters.
  10. she sounds a little like Fiona Apple at times to me.
  11. New Morning/Basement - these are the same type of remasters as the catalog went through a few years ago? I mean, I know these weren't done in that batch that had been done, not a repeat. At first they came out in digipak format, and then went to jewel cases.
  12. yeah, and it links to yet another web address that links to stuff of his. i wonder how much he pays a year on licensing url's.
  13. Isn't there a bit like that in Pearl Jam's Jeremy, too? The opening bit reminds me of the Danny Elfman Batman (89) score a little bit.
  14. http://www.spinner.com/2009/03/31/eels-fre...-song-premiere/ this sounds pretty cool.

  17. This is how I"m feeling - though I only streamed it once and haven't bought it yet. The Tain seems to be the best of this type of music for them, and it was first, so everything else just doesn't seem to reach it. I didn't dig Crane Wife as much as the prior ones so I haven't been too amped on this one. Then with no Best Buy, etc sales (in ads anyway) I didn't go out of my way to buy HoL.
  18. I listened to a good bit of it today, and now I remember. It's a horribly paced record and a lot of songs sound incomplete. The poppy/catch songs are relegated to the end of the album. Some sound just like codas. One instrumental sounds just like the backing track that vocals were never added to. I think they must have known the band was over before releasing this and they just mostly found old outtakes.
  19. woah. (joey lawrance style) i don't dislike Carrie Underwood so much because she can actually sing, though i haven't cared for much what she has sung as of late. now Taylor Swift.....uggh. she doesn't even sing with a country accent, it's a purely pop (probably emo) voice. what does everyone think of Miranda Lambert? she does actually write most of her material.
  20. So I guess he hasn't gone back on his announcement to dissolve the Cardinals after this tour?
  21. Are they the ones that do that one song - I"m drawing a blank. It sounds like the sweetest harmonized country folk song of all time, but it's talking about murdering their lover and watching them bleed - kinda like Via Chicago thematically. Can't forget Buck Owens! Stonewall Jackson has some good songs. Johnny's brother, Tommy, has the one hit song that is pretty cool about Martin Luther King Jr, JFK and Robert Kennedy. I always thought they were random names and didn't put it together until I looked for it one day. "They took you away before you sang your song..."
  22. throwing a little twang into the vocals, and having fiddles on a song does not a country song make.
