I was actually thinking it seems to be the highest ranked least buzzed album. Then again, I only subscribe to Paste (because of last year's $1 subscription) and they didn't rate it too highly.

is it basically like what he writes on his blog - the stream of consciousness double space poetry stuff or are there actual paragraphs/narrative? -
i think Bad to Me was amongst those Lennon broadcasts linked from here a long time ago - unfortunately, that blogger disappeared after only putting up maybe 10 or so broadcasts with no explaination. i haven't checked back in a long time though. i would have rather them do their own versions of these songs than all the early covers on their records.

So they make it sound all good and then sell it as downgraded files? ha.
-
would these put on iTunes be the remastered ones? since a huge bit of the Beatles audience would be older, i think they'd buy a lot more physical copies.

i already have a Login. when i try to Login it just goes to a blank page every time. the counter/entry screen sure does stay live though.........i smell conspiracy.

that is hilarious.

yes, i know. did they willing do the covers or were they made to is what i'm getting at. maybe they didn't have enough - what they thought at the time - good material, and/or time constraints - trying to get an album out quickly they just would do something they had well practiced over the years of playing the pubs.
-
on those early albums - was it their choice to do that many covers or did they not have enough originals? i think most of those were pub staples for them so maybe they just did it to get something quick. Hard Days Night - that's a special one for me - the first with all originals.
-
yes. they're one of those groups so overrated that they're underrated. i use to disregard their early stuff, but if you're a musician/songwriter you realize how inventive they were with chord changes, etc. from the very beginning.

i haven't gone past Sunflower/Surf's Up. everything i heard past the era on the BB box set i have doesn't sound too great to me. i think several of those you mentioned could be quite good albums if you cut a track or two though. Brian was only writing one or two songs for some of those though - usually the best ones of course.

beatles definitely do not need twofers. stereo/mono and bonus tracks. Beach Boys weren't as solid as an "album band" and have a lot more product than the Beatles - that's why it worked in their case. Now people like Johnny Cash - people who have tons of back catalog - really need twofers since some of those albums around that time barely ran 30 mins. I wish they'd do that with Buck Owens as well. I have a compilation and would love to hear more of his stuff, but it's hard to shell out the top CD price for 30 mins of catalog music no matter how good it may be.

and there's The Wedding Album. this track sounds interesting: "John & Yoko", the first side, is a recording of Lennon and Ono calling to each other, through a range of emotions, over the sound of their heartbeats. I believe that somewhere I've read they're in stereo - Lennon on one speaker and Yoko on the other.
-
it's hard for me to believe Lennon refused it as he and yoko released a few albums pretty much like that with random noises. anyone heard those by the way?

so i wonder what the Anthology will be like? 2 disc - first disc a 'greatest hits.' second disc - a 'greatest hits' of the box set of unreleased stuff? -
conor and mike mogis (bright eyes) - or do you mean conor and his current band?
-
that actually makes me want to hear it. the choir/orchestra/mellotron song sounds interesting.

yes, the mono definitely needs to be released, as well as, stereo since a lot of people are familiar with these. I don't know if there are instances like this with The Beatles recordings at all, but I know in the case of Pet Sounds is that when they went to make new stereo mixes all the elements couldn't be found. I think in some cases Brian overdubbed new vocals over a track that they'd already done a mix with. They kept the old mix, but now there were new vocals on top. I actually prefer listening to the newer stereo mix of Pet Sounds for most of the songs because you can hear more of th

i've read several people complaining that their copy was warped to the point it affected playback. -
did DualDisc already obsolve as a format? i liked the Talking Heads DualDiscs. But if there are outtatkes, demos on the Beatles albums and the stereo/mono, then it would probably be pushing it for one CD. i hope they include even the demos they made for songs they gave away for others to record. i heard one of John's give aways on that Lennon radio show that i thought was better than some of the tracks that made the early albums. basically i would like to hear everything Beatles. i would buy a box set of every album - though i guess the early ones would not even have enough stuff fo

i've finally got a good listen at Blood on the Tracks. now i see why it's up there with his 60's stuff. the way he sings some words in Big Girl (how he strains one word in every verse) and Idiot Wind (how he pronounces 'idiot') are minorly annoying, but other than that, a very good album. anyone notice how Buckets of Rain resembles Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime? If You See Her makes me think of Lady Jane a little bit.

i wish Dr Pepper would do the same deal with Dr Dre and Detox...
