  1. some of this may have been recorded at The Loft... 08/06/08 RICHARD SWIFT Releases Free Digital EP, Hits the Road With Stereolab and The Walkmen Secretly Canadian is pleased to announce "Ground Trouble Jaw," a new digital EP from RICHARD SWIFT, which is being given away for free for a limited time via our friends at EMusic. The EP is sure to please fans of classic Swift, as the five tracks run the gamut from 60s girl group pop to Motown soul to Onasis-flavored 50s street gang doo-wop to synth-fueled pop classics (think Prince sitting in on the "Plastic Ono" sessions) - all with Swift's em
  2. thanks. i wondered about all the religious references. since Fate is all i've heard, i don't know if they come up in previous records or not. i wondered why they said he was "punched in the throat" though?
  3. someone match the names with the voices please: i can tell it's a shuffle - 1, one singer, 2, the other singer, etc. the 'even' singer - i don't know if he can continue to sing for many years cause it sounds at times like he's shredding his vocal chords. i picture flesh hitting the studio mic on track 4 towards the end.
  4. i think it's the worst review i've ever read on Pitchfork. i think i'm going to e-mail them and tell them as well. giving this album a lower score than Coldplay, weezer, etc (not that i even hate those records)? i realize that pitchfork is made up of many people and reviewers who scale things differently, but this was completely ridiculous. i'm not going to reread the review - it doesn't deserve it - but doesn't the reviewer say they listened through once and couldn't remember anything? they never give any indication that they listened more than once later in the review, so i sincerely think
  5. i ordered mine on Friday, they sent it on Monday and I got it today! things never get here that fast (maybe that's why the shipping seemed high)! i just listened to it straight through and i really love it. i can't believe a band this Beatle-y has put out a few albums and i didn't even know about it. someone please put those 7" exclusive b-sides up online somewhere. i'll have to start getting the back catalog before long.
  6. even though the vinyl/cd bundle was only $5 more, it was also $5 more for shipping that, so i ended up just getting the CD bundle as i really wouldn't play the vinyl all that much anyway. so i guess that means i'd take an extra vinyl copy for $5, but not for $10.
  7. http://www.parkthevan.com/home.php i haven't seen so many options since Billy Corgan... i'm going to go with the vinyl/cd bundle. it's only $5 more to get the vinyl as well. or wait...the shipping is $13! i may have to rethink things...
  8. i finally got the chance to listen to this straight through on headphones and i like it a whole lot more. still think the vocals on Profanity Prayers are too low in the mix.
  9. Sufjan Stevens has some instrumentals (and entire electronic album), but I'll have to go back to find any titles.
  10. the artist formally known as bigideas
  11. i didn't actually say that, so i would appreciate not having my username in the quote. hehe.
  12. this is true and i did even read that. it slipped my mind because i love that song. Eels - Blinking Lights and Revelations had quite a few instrumentals...though i wouldn't classify them as 'favorites.'
  13. wow, how could no one mention this one: "Green Onions" - Booker T and the MG's and "Treefingers" - Radiohead Beach Boys Smile era instrumentals are great and i believe there's a good one on Friends as well. No Knife had some great instrumentals - I don't have the CD with me right now. and..........hahahaahah.....Wipe Out! Tarantino uses some great instrumentals in his films.
  14. Chemtrails really sounds similar - the beginning/slow verses to one of the Mutation b-sides. This review is pretty close to how I feel about the record at this point in time: http://www.austin360.com/blogs/content/sha...t_found_mo.html Beck
  15. i'm not sure what i think yet. i don't think it ever reaches the "highs" of any of his other albums Odelay on (i don't have those 3 early records). track 8 or 9 the vocals are too low in the mix. it just sounds like Beck mumbling.
  16. i'm the opposite. i think OEND was too repetitive, and then the eps didn't really change all that much. i really like the arrangements and sound of SD. i've still never heard Creek though.
  17. great. should be interesting to hear him 'recreate them exactly.' one song off of Sea Change was compared to River Man a lot.
  18. architecture in helinski? (that's my guess)
  19. i meant to ask about this. i remember those being put up, but i never downloaded any of them. anyone know how many he put up on his website - and what songs?
  20. they alluded to it some in the Pitchfork review. then i googled and found it. i'm not on the same computer to find it right now.
  21. i was surprised to read that he said he was ashamed of Hollywood Freaks and Get Real Paid. it should be interesting how he goes about releasing his next record.
  22. i've totally missed out on Dr Dog. i read a Fate review in Paste (which i took advantage of the $1 year subscription) and all the Beatles comparisons made me look into them. the clips on Amazon sound very promising. now i'm wondering which preorder to get. i think InSound has the bonus 7" with 2 non-album tracks. their record label has a big package with vinyl/cd/shirt/posters, etc for $35. i think i might dive headlong into the vinyl/cd bundle. something about a shirt in the preorder deal always seems to get me.
  23. i've been watching the Information DVD today. anyone know who the blonde chick is in a couple of the videos? she's in No Complaints holding the tambourine in profile and in Soldier Jane, too. kinda reminds me of Nico a little.
  24. here's the question: do you buy the regular album on release date or wait a few months until he puts out the deluxe edition with all the b-sides/remixes? he's done with the last 2 or 3 and it's kinda pissed me off. i like Beck enough that i'd buy the special edition on original release date, but i'm not going to buy it again a few months later. (although it was cool of him to include the dvd and stickers for low price with regular edition of The Information)
  25. yes, so cool! i wonder if my e-mails to them had anything to do with it? =) i also asked at the time if there was any way to get that OOP bonus disc that originally came with Pig Lib and they said to check back that it would be available digitally - though i have not checked back.
