  1. finally have gotten to give this a listen through - though not all at once. i still love Call It a Ritual - it's the one stuck in my head anyways. i'm trying to figure out how you keep time on this (for any music theorists) - does it start in 3/4 and change to 4/4 (or something weird) for the mellow part?
  2. i've always gotten the impression that Mutations and Midnite Vultures were pretty much ignored. i rarely ever see anyone say either is their favorite Beck.
  3. i'm not sure what i think yet. the first two released songs showed promise with Chris abandoning his usual elementary rhymes, but then hearing some more i see they're still present. i did gain some respect for him in the Rolling Stone interview though. he openly admits about ripping off Radiohead, sings Girlfriend is Better and talks about the percussion on Off the Wall. http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/21185368 love this Eno quote; What was his (eno's) assessment of the band? He goes, "Your songs are too long. And you're too repetitive, and you use the same tricks too much,
  4. did you skip out on Mutations, too?
  5. that's probably it. you're not a fan of November Rain? it was definitely a jump in songwriting from the early stuff. ==================================== just wiki'd it. i was wrong. it was actually an older song (or started earlier anyway): According to Tracii Guns, former Guns N' Roses guitarist and founding member, Axl Rose had been working on the song since at least 1983. In an interview, he said the following about "November Rain": When we were doing that EP for L.A. Guns, like '83? He was playing "November Rain"
  6. i like that song. i can't help it, anytime i think of GnR i get that end part of that one song where Axl is like: "yeeeiiiiiiieeeeeeeiiiiiieeeeeeeiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee" but it repeats in my head to the point of hilarity. one of the big Illusion songs i think.
  7. i was surprised to see 4 copies at the local best buy. i don't think there's any way they'd sell all those...ever. since it's not on sale, i'll wait and see if amazon gets it back in stock at the lower price.
  8. nothing like a November Rain amongst these tracks?
  9. best buy is 27.99. i guess if you look at it like this - they could easily sell just the Pacific album at normal cd price and they could have made a seperate compilation for the other stuff, but this way you get both, plus it looks like really nice packaging. of course, i'd much rather pay 20 for it. amazon has a 7 min video on the album page.
  10. i wonder if that is an opening week sale only. i'm in no rush to get it, but i'd like it eventually and that would be $10 less. you also have to factor in shipping costs though. oh wait, amazon is out of stock!
  11. i saw the reissue in Hasting's the other day. what's the verdict, analogman? (it was 29.99)
  12. thanks! does he have an active blog now? seems like last i checked he had deleted everything, but that's been a while.
  13. i've always thought ( ) would be best if just tracks 1-5, and 8 doesn't everything they do in 6 and 7 pretty much happen in 5 and 8 anyway? i just can never listen to all those long songs in a row. love the first half though.
  14. how? i love a lot of what they do, but their albums are sooooooo long. i would like a 40 min Sigur Ros album.
  15. do any of you listen to any of their records from beginning to end in one sitting?
  16. that is a really different kind of album cover for him. i listened to the Information while i ran on my treadmill last night. it's really not bad, it's just it's so long i have never wanted to take the time to listen to it all in one sitting - and i really never form an opinion on an album unless i can do that.
  17. from what i've read there is a deluxe booklet as well with commentary from the band about the songs. by now someone has probably scanned it up somewhere. i was watching MTV and i heard one of the Scott Shriner songs - at first i didn't recognize the band cause he looks a little different, but i thought it was alright. King i think?
  18. thanks. that's completely insane. usually when there is a deluxe edition they show it's price in smaller print below the regular, but it's not mentioned in any of the sales papers. if i can get the full normal album for 5.99 and the deluxe is 15.99 or something, 4 tracks wouldn't be worth 10 more bucks. i usually go for deluxe versions, but if the price difference is that great without a better packaging upgrade as well, i'll probably skip on it.
  19. Circuit City will be selling the album for $5.99! If I remember correctly, the bonus tracks are only offered via iTunes or digital retailers - not on any physical CD?
  20. it's not a passing fad record, so i would think it would stay. of course, a lot of music has come out so i don't listen to it as much. i'm wondering why they haven't added anything else to Buy Early Get Now. they added stuff for a while with the New P's release i believe.
  21. did anyone snag Cobwebs? that is probably my favorite RA track in a long time.
  22. yeah. i guess it's sorta like Amnesiac and The Avalanche, i.e. second albums pulled from productive sessions. have they previewed some of these songs live already?
  23. i don't know the song titles. my friend and i were talking about The Information and we both felt there is some 'coldness' or something to this album in comparison to his other stuff. It's weird since Godrich did Mutations and Sea Change as well. If I recall correctly though, I think they started the tracks, took a long break, and then came back to it.
  24. Mutations is my favorite Beck album. Sea Change is a little too repetitive and 'one note' for me, though I still like it. Midnite Vultures is amazing. Odelay phenomenal. Guero pretty good. Information bloated. this new track is most like Mutations to me, yet somewhat boring, and it has that same never ending jam session thing he's done on several songs.
