  1. not worth it, just buy the 7.99 regular edition one is a small flipbook of the neon bible on the front - you already have the 3d or whatever sticker that changes when you look at if from different angles. then the other little book is a bunch of pages of pictures that are of the same thing and just barely different - but they don't seem to be in any type of progression. i could have sworn someone described it as 40 pages of photos handpicked by the band. it is not this at all. the repetitive photos are nothing interesting to look at at all. then there is a book with lyrics that i'm guessing
  2. i haven't heard the new tracks yet, but this has been my prediction since hearing the Wilco Book CD. so i guess the piano player (forget his name) had a big influence on the recordings like with the Wilco Book era. i like those two songs btw. p.s. i still wish i had the time to combine AGIB and WB and make a double album - and not just sequencing the tracks together but actually mixing some songs together (i.e. taking some of the noise tracks on WB and mixing them in and out of the noise on AGIB, etc).
  3. i wish someone would put up at least one song from Largo where he builds the tracks up one instrument at a time and loops them. i'll probably never get to see him in Cal, and i would love to see what this is even like. it was cool to see him backing Fiona at Largo on the DualDisc of her last album. i believe one short clip on youtube shows Jon imitating Tom Waits singing Radiohead's Creep. pretty funny and dead on.
  4. i finally listened to some tracks on myspace. songs of that nature really require strong vocals and it just wasn't cutting it for me. i'll have to give it another try in the future.
  5. i can't picture either one going: "doot doodoodoo dear dear dear deidre" but i just saw the art (maybe album cover, i don't know) on myspace that has john with full beard and i may can see it now. http://myspace.com/theautumndefense
  6. the two members of Viva Voce i believe, who are also husband and wife. they're touring with the Shins and i believe the female (maybe Anita?) sang on the Shins album. i think i read this on pitchfork.
  7. i like all three of those. i'll have to look into it then.
  8. yeah, i have watched that SNL/Phantom performance several times and i like the song now. it seemed kinda bland at first listen (and maybe it still is). i think part of the reason i want to watch it is because of the Viva Voce tambourine player.
  9. another thing that made me think it was a loop was that there is sorta a 'blip' or something at the beginning of the song, but i take it that is just some technical recording/editing mistake. alright. i will get to getting the box set. it's been out over 10 years, so surely i could find a good conditioned used copy.
  10. I have been thinking about getting this as well. All I have is VU & Nico and I love that.........yes, even Nico's tracks (i like Chelsea Girls as well). One thing I've wondered - is the piano on All Tomorrow's Parties a loop or is he playing that in real time? Just seems like that would kill your wrists.
  11. that's funny - no telling how many times i've heard that song (i bought the cd when it came out and it still comes on the radio here and there) and had no idea those were the lyrics. i don't know what to think of that though - hootie even gave dylan credit in the song, but dylan has borrowed lots of lines i know this line from "Girl of the North Country" is in Simon & G's "Parseley Sage Rosemary and Thyme": Remember me to one who lives there. She once was a true love of mine. was this an original Dylan line or borrowed from an older source? i want to say i've read that PSR&T is
  12. really only Sunlandic is disco influenced. the one before had drum machines but still more rock. their earlier stuff is really influenced by Smile-era Beach Boys/Sgt Pepper's-era Beatles.
  13. i like it. i think I'll Be Your Baby Tonight should have been a country hit at the time. i love that song. i think this album and BOB must have been big influences on Tom petty. Petty sings like Bob from this period and i want to say he's kinda adapted some dylan lines for his own lyrics. i'm going from Wildflowers alone, so there may be more.
  14. any news on a new album? when Around the Sun came out i believe i read that they had another 'more rock' record that would come out relatively quickly.
  15. i have read about the Four Freshman influence a lot. combine that with the sound of early rock n'roll (chuck berry, etc) and you have a basis for early Beach Boys. then bring in Brian's admiration of Phil Spector's Wall of Sound and you get into the mid 60's Beach Boys stuff. then add the psychedlic influence of the Beatles and drugs, etc and you get another big part of the Beach Boys late 60's/early 70's canon. have ya'll heard the bonus cut on the Smiley Smile/Wild Honey disc, Their Hearts Were Full of Spring? i believe this was a song the Four Freshman did. this cut is taken from a live w
  16. Does anyone know what makes the big difference in the sound of Pet Sounds and say their albums Friends through Surf's Up? Sunflower and Surf's Up just have such lush beautiful production. did studio technology advance that much in that time or what? i know Brian was not as involved during those albums, but those songs he contributed here and there where amazing.
  17. how much would an original vinyl pressing go for? i'd really like to hear it how it sounded around the time it was released.
  18. thanks for putting it up for everyone, but that's too big for my 56k. i don't guess it's up in mp3 format somewhere? what i'm really really interested in is if the version of Nothing Up My Sleeves is really different.
  19. me too. i had no idea these existed. i actually broke out the YHF demos the other week. i really love Nothin Up My Sleeves. is there a different version on the Engineer Demos? i recently asked jay's mgr if this was a Jay song (i thought it was because of the chord changes) and i was right. he said it won't be on the next album, but it may be on one in the future.
