i like those two cover images - i'm guessing Bamboo is fan made? i would really just like to hear the albums - hopefully Rhino or someone will get ahold of all of it.

New Ryan Adams EP & more info on boxset...
bigideas replied to Welsh Rich's topic in Someone Else's Song
$4.99 (opening week at least) for a 7 track physical cd is a great deal. i wish more people would do this. i like the AiC cover. it's been so long since i heard the original though. i hope the boxset is just the 5 unreleased albums. if they want to make some compilation, they need to do a seperate "Best of." otherwise, it's just an f.u. to the fans. -
it had been so long since i heard Too Far Apart that i was thinking it must be a cover. it seemed familiar but not too familiar. haven't heard this funkier/faster version of I'm the Man... is this the 4th ACL Wilco performance? i know of at least three and SoundStage as well. since they are releasing all these other artist's peformances on DVD/CD they need to put out Wilco's.

from Swift's Myspace: NEW RECORD ETC we've started the new record mr. tweedy was kind enough to invite us out to chicago and record at the WILCO loft so we did i also bought a studer a80 // 24 track tape machine from him (remember those?) we drove home and put it in my studio the WILCO boys were great and let us use their gear (drums/keys/guitars/tequila) they really are gentleman you know some of them played on a few tracks too life is strange but i don't need to tell you that so/// i'll post more blogs as we go (and lots of video footage /// we're going to document the entire recordin

did you buy it upon original release or this recent rerelease (it's been out of print for awhile)? i really wish they would have included How I Made My Millions on there. they really needed an Amnesiac EP for all those b-sides as well. i lucked out and got a free one from Capitol in the mail - they sent a lot of goodies around Amnesiac time - but it is still missing several of the b-sides.

usually the first album that gets you into a group is the one that remains your favorite. (note: i said usually because i know someone or multiple someone will give examples of how this was not true for them.........but on an overall average i would think this to be true)

i tuned out after reading this: "Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief certainly had memorable moments and instances of greatness (well, alright, Amnesiac didn't...)" guess you've never heard Pyramid Song...

everytime i listen to Videotape i think of Spoon. that weird percussion sound is similiar to a song on Kill the Moonlight - track 5 i think.
-
i agree. it's perfectly sequenced in vinyl record style with a Side A and Side B. treefingers actually started me realizing as a songwriter that i didn't have to attach lyrics to everything i write. of course Eno and other people were doing ambient stuff a long time ago, but i'm just saying for me.

from the first time i heard the live bootleg to even now i can't help but think of this song. i wonder if it subliminally was an influence arrangement wise. of course the melody is nothing alike, but the beat and piano line are somewhat similiar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_Outs...oney_in_My_Hand the youtube video link is at the bottom to quoteth Thom Yorke for all stuck in the 70's "it is the 21st century..........it is the 21st century"

the opening beat of the album on 15 steps doesn't stick in your head - especially once the guitar comes in? i heard it once or twice from bootlegs over a year ago and instantly remembered the song - never really forgot it. was this your first major exposure to Radiohead? i love 60's/70's music as well, but i almost get the feeling you only checked the album out because of all the press. perhaps you went into it not expecting much, wanting the 60's/70's to be recreated. going into it that way, i can see how you would not like it. any records made in the past few years that you like?
-
i love the Lips, but he doesn't fit in that arguement because you know he doesn't have the greatest voice and i would bet they work pretty hard on laying down those vocals on the records. Thom Yorke likes to do one take and be done with it.
-
let me guess a. you have yet to listen to the album from beginning to end without distractions b. you've only skimmed the album and not devoted much attention c. you did both A & B, but only once or twice
-
oh, yes, that was inadvertent. i didn't click on the Wiki link until after posting and thought that very thing! i don't want to get out my cd's, but i wonder if it's as simple as one person mastered all those.
-
something about Godrich's sounds got colder. i prefer everything 2000 pre or so i think Radiohead - OKC, Kid A Travis - the man who Beck - Mutations i love the sound of these. after that he tended to put to much backwards noise in between tracks - at least The Invisible Band and Sea Change

i ordered the discbox. if i was going download only route i would have paid 0 for several reasons 1. not CD quality 2. no artwork/lyrics 3. i had to use my own CD to burn it 4. it would be like paying for the commercials on cable tv it's promotion. it's promoting the product, i.e. the Discbox or the store release in January.

i liked the original rock version of Reckoner whenever the music cut out and he said, "reckoner pa pa pa" it was just insane like nothing they'd done before. from what i read they're really not anything alike except the word. haven't listend to the solo thom version in a long time.
-
i love every song on HTTT. as an album - meaning, if you listen straight through - it feels bloated, suffers from bad track order and bad mastering. i think Thom has said rather recent he thought the idea of recording most of it live prob did not suit the material well. the odd thing is, it doesn't sound like a band playing together in a room at all.

my favorite albums rarely ever seem totally digestable at first.
-
sound interpretation is hard to verbalize, but you get an A for effort no doubt. someone needs to have a blog stream or youtube vid with the audio so i can listen at work. surely someone has done this...
-
depends if it's the OKC era version or newer funkier version. i can't get a response as to which it is.
