The local Best Buy pissed me off (I had a 10% off coupon for that week only) for saying they had the Sp Ed, but they finally got it in and had it filed incorrectly - under "Andrew" instead of by "Bird." It is a nice package. Very hard to get the CD's out, but the package is durable enough not to tear or anything though you have to stretch/pull it pretty hard. Something about his last two albums - Eggs and Armchair - I couldn't quite connect with - like I've mentioned before probably his vocals seemed detatched from the recordings almost as if he's more interested in the arrangements/instru

Is that describing Peggy Sue? I ended up getting the Rarities set. Standing at the store holding both it seemed every song marked as unreleased on Memorial was included on Rarities plus some. So basically it seems Memorial has bits of the Apt and Garage tapes sprinkled in with the hits or more well known Buddy songs. Rarities has the complete Apt/Garage tapes and some undubbed/different takes. The weirdest being a couple minutes of the tape running while Buddy and Elena are talking. I kinda wish I could be in Lubbock today.

so he just forgot his last rant and is back to normal now? i guess 'bug' is Mandy Moore? -
At Best Buy the other day I noticed two new Buddy compilations. One called 'Memorial' which is called a Best Buy exclusive - I think it just means they have it a while before everyone else. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;js...p;type=category Another called "Down The Line - The Rarities" I haven't been able to pin down the big difference. It almost seems that Memorial just includes all the most well known stuff with some of the rarities/unreleased/undubbed stuff, while Rarities pretty much contains only the latter and more complete; i.e. all of the Apartment Tracks (seems to be

The Beach Boys/Brian Wilson comparison will never end unless Panda Bear changes his singing technique. He phrases (if that's the right word) just like Brian Wilson. I have also wondered if the movie, Willy Wonka (gene wilder), is a big influence on them. On Strawberry Jam I'm pretty sure they sampled the sound of that one machine - the one that is like a car wash - I forget what it's called. Then the descending held out notes on No More Runnin' make me think of when the girl goes down the eggdicator. After listening some more, I think track 7 - Guys Eyes - could be cut and not effect

when i say sample - i don't even mean like a loop of chords or anything - i think he may take a single snare hit from one song - a tambourine from another, etc. of course now with modern digital technology, you can do that and then create beats from them. it's funny to me that they would give sample credit to something as simple as a jawharp bit - why not just find a jawharp and try to recreate it? (unless there's more they're sampling in the song i dont' realize since i don't know the original song)

i changed my mind about MPP being too long. i had a long drive the other day and didn't feel anything should be cut after that.

how so? i've been a fan for a long time now, but i've yet to see him in person - only via video.

I had no idea there was a Ryan Adams connection as well! http://www.secretlycanadian.com/onesheet.php?cat=SC183 RICHARD SWIFT The Atlantic Ocean CD / LP (SC183, released: 04/07/09) The Atlantic Ocean is the fourth release from American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Richard Swift. isn't the list in Person Pitch a list of all the artists he took samples from? i didn't think about it at first, but it didn't just sound Pet Sounds-esque but like actual bits of that session were sampled. i've also wondered if they pile a ton of effects on their vocals live. do their early records have a ton of vocal effects, too?

I think it's a tad long and would be tighter with the loss of at least one track. Anyone know what percentage of the backing tracks are made up of instruments they actually play or samples manipulated beyond the ability to sue for copyright infringement? I'm pretty sure on Strawberry Jam they sampled the light saber sound from Star Wars. As protective as Lucas* is, I'm surprised he didn't try to do anything about it - I guess it was too short to really do anything. *A local band was named Moss Eisley, but when they were signed by Warner Brothers, they were made to change their name. Have you noticed that modern bands with a significant Brian Wilson/Beach Boys' influence usually always are highly rated on Pitchfork? It confuses me that Dr Dog - one of the moderns that sounds authentically pretty much like The Beatles/Beach Boys - that they dump on them.

At Dallas I think people yelled Whiskeytown and other stuff. He just laughed it off and joked around. They never left the stage, started pretty much on time, and kept playing until past curfew. -

I wondered if he wasn't experiencing Meniere's disease. Seems so. It can cause dizziness/nausea and you have to stay away from a lot of salt/caffeinated drinks. A friend has this. I think I may have it to some degree if one can have it in various forms. -
"soukous guitar" what is this exactly - or what are examples on the album? i was never blown away during the hype by what clips i heard or live songs i saw, but they did play The Kids Don't Stand a Chance on Conan fairly recently. i decided to use my C-mas gift card and get it - which i do in these situations - if it's sucks, well at least I didn't waste money on it. i have to say, it's an enjoyable record to listen to. no obvious skippers or anything. not a classic on any hand - like some said - will this record be talked about a few years from now? probably not unless they contin

Everyone almost seems to believe the Cardinals are really over. At least wait a few days. Between now and March it would not be unthinkable for him to change his mind 8,000,000 times. -

If that long. He's already said he wanted to quit the Cardinals several times and then he comes back with a blog a few days later about how it's the best thing for him and he doesn't want to be a solo artist. -
I guess it will have the part where George gets shocked - that's on the movie anyway. haha.

I got mine today. I assume the promise they delivered on was their statement to offer a free Dr Pepper to everyone if G'n'R released the album this year.

I finally got to listen to it this morning. Most of the songs sound like they just faded them out in the middle - i.e. they sound incomplete almost - as if he wanted to make his songs fit the 60's time format (most songs between 2-3 mins) when they really needed to be longer. I was really surprised at how big the arrangements were. I'm wondering how much Dennis was responsible or how much help he got from his brothers.

96 hours? that's crazy.

It's not like the normal versions aren't available, too. The multiple packagings has seemed to become a norm after In Rainbows - not that people didn't do stuff like that before, it just seems more prevelant.

I'm interested in anything they'd put out. I prefer Person Pitch to Strawberry Jam. do you think that means i'll like Meriweather?
