thing is - the stuff you mention in the original post is not country music. it's more country/pop. what really is country is now classified as "classic country." No one here likes Dwight Yoakam? Most people will say they like Johnny Cash, but at the same time will say they don't like country. Here is a local station that made me realize that I do like country music, it's just that I wasn't really hearing any on the modern format. www.theranch.fm There is this older guy who writes and sounds like classic country, James Hand. He lists Hank Sr, Ernest Tubb, etc as inspiration and yo

Grandaddy (New Jason Lytle Solo Album)

Not bad. It seems he's pretty much found his niche with the same types of sounds and lyrical themes. I'll probably get it to see what he's up to. What was it about Fambly Cat that was so different? I have it, too, and remember not really wanting to listen to it like the previous two. Never heard the first album. -
So do you think they want to sell a song for more or less than 99 cents? They've recouped cash on all the released recordings so many times they might as well do it half price, right? Have all the un-officially released stuff at 99. =)
-
anyone heard it? does it basically sound like 60's garage rock?
-
I don't see how they could completely make it up and have someone sing back up vocals with Bono just happening to randomly figure out what he was going to sing off the top of his head - unless only part of the track is the one take and they overdubbed on top of it.

only one Cardinology song? they move on quick. is he still standing behind the 'break up the Cardinals after his tour thing' and maybe they're bitter over those songs? i saw the other day he has a second book as well. -
anyone (admit) watch American Idol? they keep saying the one dude would sell a ton, but he sings a lot like a young Axl to me and his latest didn't do too hot.
-
really? i thought it was pretty good, but would probably have been better as a single album.
-
when looking at the pics on/in the album i wondered: how many pictures are there of the four of them amongst some barren landscape looking stoic?

I thought the long titles worked fine within the context of the songs for ATYCLB, but on Atomic, there are a couple of places where you can tell he's trying to fit in a long phrase and it's just too many words. it seems like he had the saying or sentence and then wrote a song around it instead of having the chords and melody and writing lyrics to it.

those glasses and weird space shuttle structure on the left makes it look like the future... lots of bleeps and bloops on this record maybe?
-
yeah, he recreates the 'sound' of the 50's/early 60's mostly. he's not really done anything psychadelic has he? i guess the closest is using Mellotron on some tracks which in my mind ties to late 60's.
-
i've listened through it all, though not in order and not at once. my first feeling is it's kinda bland. outside of Boots i don't remember anything.
-
are there any 'official' videos being put up for these performances? dave's site didn't have Monday's as of last night.

yeah, the last couple months i have had trouble, too. it used to be very reliable to check their website beforehand to see if your local store had the items in stock, but there's been a couple times recently where they couldn't be found. the week Animal Collective and Andrew Bird came out, both showed to be there at 2 different local stores, but they didn't show up in person. also, the Rivers Cuomo II album was the same way. i hope the lack of their biggest competitor hasn't made them slack up. last time i filled out one of their surveys i said as much and haven't had problems since.

Neko is $7.99 at Best Buy this week (as well as Animal Collective's latest).

The confusing thing with Pitchfork - the reviewer seems to paint ATYCLB as their last good record, yet it got a 5.0 from Pitchfork, while Dismantle got a 6.9. I guess the vinyl doesn't even come with a download (at least it's not advertised)? I think it's sh*tty to not have a cheaper version with a DVD. I'm sure they're manufacturing millions of copies so printing up a DVD would cost a few cents.
-
the Best Buy ad showed 5 versions to buy (i knew there were tons of versions, just had no idea these would all be in stores, maybe some online through U2 only). i think i'm just going to get the basic. if they had a basic version that just added the DVD for a little more, i'd go that route, but no way i'm paying $60+ just to get it along with the other stuff. i wouldn't be surprised if it's released seperately down the road. should be interesting to see how they stock this especially since the local one has dramatically reduced their music space. it's very cramped. maybe they will have

this will be on sale for $7.99 at Best Buy (also, Neko Case). not sure if the sale starts Sunday with the ad since it's a prior release or Tuesday like with the new releases.

i didn't believe the hype on the first couple listens, but man...after that...

anyone watch Family Feud? this week they've had celebrity look alikes and one was Bono.
-
the first Oh, Lonesome Me version I heard was Johnny Cash circa Sun Recs.

is there a Ryan posted blog anywhere on the interwebs? -
Has anyone seen The Real Buddy Holly Story? Just wondered what you thought. I also never really heard much about the big concert in Clear Lake. I think I might have saw about 5 seconds with a brief mention on the news. new article: http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/hp/conte...lifemcginn.html North grad is the defender of Buddy Holly's rights Fifty years after 'the day the music died,' Jonathan Faber watches over rock icon's legacy By Andrew McGinn Friday, February 20, 2009 In 1959, rock 'n' roll was young and, depending on your religious affiliation, still dangerous. noah's vocal always sound like brian to me unless he's doing something really fast (i only own their last two records though). the most B Dub-ish track to me on MPP is the Tare song, No More Runnin'. btw, what Brian Wilson/Beach Boys albums have you heard in full?
