  1. I like the album art a whole lot more without that awful font... I have absolutely no clue as to what it will sound like and that's really exciting. I hope Wilco will drop their next one in a similar way, it's much more fun. Also, apparently it's only going to be 8 tracks.
  2. I think I'll Fight is really misunderstood. I know a lot of people that just thought it was about a girl or a relationship, but I think it's a fantastic way of looking at a soldier's role in fighting for his country, and done in a really non-corny way. Top notch lyrics by Jeff IMO. However, I will agree that I really like Jeff a whole lot more in first person lyrics, as probably majority of us will. Writing songs in the third person are really really tough and Jeff does it well but I definitely agree in thinking that's really one of the main reasons why a lot of us feel disconnected with W

    2011 tour dates?

I slept in until 10:30 and got 4 row F for Toronto, same tickets that I got last time right at 10:00!
  4. Not to hijack this thread, but more people should note the key change from the Bb live versions to the G major album version of What Light. IMO the Bb version is way way nicer.
  5. Or the guitar line being pretty close to this: Throwing a big guitar freak out/noise ending is a pretty cliched way for Wilco to end a song, I'm glad they chose differently for One Wing. I'm also glad they changed the key, F# minor is much nicer for this tune.

Yeah I'm going to both, why the hell not!
  8. To answer the thread title's question: Because it's the worst album Wilco has put out since A.M. (and I think majority of us will agree on that). It's not a bad album, but it's not a great album. I'm convinced that if any other band other than Wilco put out WTA we would be losing our shit over them, but Wilco's back catalogue is its downfall a lot of the time, they have a lot to live up to.
  9. It'll come out on vinyl eventually, just not right away sadly. No problem for asking! The album was originally planned to be done with Gavin but sadly it didn't end up working out schedule-wise. We recorded this record in the fall of last year and around this time the Wooden Sky got picked up by a British label and did a big tour through Europe and another Cross Canada tour so it just wasn't going to happen. But working with Howie was an absolute dream, he is truly one of the most underrated Canadian musicians/producers/mixers right now, so talented. We'll work with Gavin at some point in ti
  10. Totally agree, if I wasn't huge fans of all those bands I would have never bought them. But hey apparently he's a bad person and thief so maybe there's some justice in the world.
  11. I just didn't like the way they mixed the drums or bass, they sounded really hallow and lacking in low end. If you compare Coversation 16 to the Afraid Of Everyone performance I think it's nowhere as good.
  12. Good performance but what an awful mix.
  13. Sure, but I don't believe anyone in the band is named "White Stripes". The band is dead.
  14. http://consequenceofsound.net/2011/02/02/the-white-stripes-break-up/ We’ll remember February 2nd, 2011 for two reasons: a massive blizzard and The White Stripes’ break-up. According to a notice posted on the band’s website, Jack and Meg White’s acclaimed collaboration is no more. “The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health,” the statement reads. “It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band have it stay that way.” “The Whi

I was basically where you are but 7 rows back for Andrew Bird and it was still really good. Anyone else hoping they'll at a second Toronto date?

Glad things worked out for you Petemoss! The QET actually has great sight lines from pretty much everywhere, but all of us seem to be really really close on this one so it'll be great!

I gave those ones up so you might have gotten mine. I tried again right after and literally pulled up two seats dead centre row A. My friends asked me to get some for them as well, so they can take the ones aaaaaall the way back in Row F lol.

I talked to the main promoter here in Ottawa, and it sounds like he tried to get Tweedy but there was no room. I am assuming there will be two nights in Toronto. It should also be noted that that is Juno week in Toronto as well, wonder if that might have anything to do with it?
  21. If Wilco owns their masters, which I suspect they do (Warner probably gave them to them when they left and it was probably negotiated with Nonesuch to keep them), we probably won't see anymore Wilco releases coming from Nonesuch again. Basically, we're not going to see what Capitol has done to the Radiohead back catalogue with re-releases and best of's unless Wilco releases these things themselves.

For people going to the Toronto show as well, the Queen Elizabeth Theatre is a really nice, seats roughly 1300 and has great sound, I saw Andrew Bird there a few years ago and it was ace.
  23. From my memory dBpm was a record they recorded at Jeff's cottage over a few days when the six piece band first got together, I believe that session was where this press photo was taken as well.
  24. Unless the band owns their masters, which they very well could.
