  1. I actually haven't received my pre-order yet, and I ordered it on April 15th. I thought they might send them out on April 28th, and I chose the cheapest shipping method (6.70) which isn't cheap for just shipping a DVD in the minimum of six days! Yet I have not receive it, has this happen to anyone else? I am sorry if this question has been asked before, but I am curious of whether or not if I should email musictoday about my pre-order not showing up since it looks like now Wilco is not even working with them anymore. One thing for sure (not unless they lower their shipping prices) I am jus
  2. I'll be there. I see Red Red Meat is playing Aug. 24th too!
  3. Hey Jrh79, The band I am in The Chairs opened for you at The Cactus Club in Milwaukee on Feb. 22 (I believe). I am Phil, and I am in the lead guitarist in the band-the guy with the jazzmaster. Glad to see you here! And everyone should check out their music, they are pretty stellar. Phil

does anyone know what time (central) it is on?
  5. Rather Ripped is pretty good especially because of the song "Incinerate." It's such a great song!
  6. I think I am going to the one in Chicago at the Vic! Do you have to pre-order the album in order to get in on the presales starting April 30th? I am kind of confused by what their website says.
  7. If you really start to like their records (including the early weird ones), then you should check out their SYR stuff. I think its pretty sweet stuff, but some of it is out there. And for starting out in SY, try Daydream and then Sister, and Goo.
  8. Pitchfork is way better this year, and it's cheaper.
  9. I've been meeting to get some of his stuff since I heard of some of the music he did with Jim O'Rourke.
  10. Thanks for everyone for sharing the info. Really great stuff! I think I am going to get the Acoustic Guitar Trio record soon. And I can't wait to hear the new Nels Cline Singers record though I think it will take a while for it to come out. I remember Nels saying something about "Coward" taking a while to come out because it is harder nowadays for a smaller label such as Crypto to release an album. Phil
  11. Thanks! Have a great time recording. And Lou is right, it's Monk. Phil
  12. So I am in a band called The Chairs (we're a rock n' roll band) and we are about to finish off our Spring Tour 2009 that is promoting our newest album "Laugh, It's Fright," which comes out March 31st. Our final show is in Chicago tomorrow Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Elbo Room (we're the first band). So if your in the Chicago area you should come out because our songs have been sounding great on tour and we are really excited to play the Elbo room! It's $9 to get in, and it should be a great show tomorrow with Blue Far Down, Dan Tedesco and the Long Haul, Micah Walk Band, and Ricky IV.
  13. That's terrible especially after what happened to them in 2004 if I remember correctly because I believe they got most of their equipment stolen.
  14. Check it out: http://www.pastrysharp.com/ They just finished mixing and our going to announce a title and tracklisting soon too! I can't wait! I know there was a Red Red Meat show tonight at the Empty Bottle and tomorrow, and I guess they are also playing at SxSW at the SubPop showcase. Phil

Yeah, I thought that PSA was very funny!
  16. Thank you very much for this! I am going with my girlfriend to the show tomorrow, and I will take her there. She's a vegetarian. Phil
  17. I was reading Nels's newest news update, and he says the record is most likely due out in July.

Oh shit! I am buying mine right now. I saw on their website that they would ship as soon as possible, but I didn't think that soon, which is why I waited till now.
  19. John Fahey especially in his older days when he wore sun glasses.
  20. thechairsband.com We've been playing a good amount of scatter shows since December, and are going on a big tour week tour most likely the last full week in March. Moreover, we've done a EP, and our starting work on our album this week! Oh yeah, you can listen to our EP on your website or download for free!
  21. I've heard "Music in Twelve Parts" is good.
  22. I couldn't agree more. But I love my teacher, he plays guitar in the Milwaukee scene, and he can basically play anything. His whole idea is to learn the style of be-bop so that one at least has some tradition, and then he'll go with you wherever you want to go after that. I mean the guy is pretty open to anything since he made "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden into a pretty killer jazz tune. And Lou, I couldn't agree with you more about Parker.
  23. I am not a huge fan of the idea of scales for each chord; instead, I just like the idea of hitting the chord tones, which is what essentially Charlie Parker did. For example, on a certain chord he would hit it's chord tones (say the 3rd and the 7th), and then encircle a chord tone of the next chord by hitting non-chord tones on the chord he is playing prior to the change of chord.
