I'd chalk that up to a humbleness, in that Tweedy found his inner-freak-out on aGiB, and then they add Nels Cline, and they can manage to hold back on the freakouts on SBS.

Ok, so I guess I'm the 40th person or so to have an indignant reaction to this statement, so here we go. I don't think it's coincidence that Nels Cline co-wrote YAMF, probably one of the top five Wilco songs of all time, IMHO.

Yes, "One Wing" does sound like SBS; Specifically, Impossible Germany. Specifically, a kick-ass version of "Impossible Germany" IMHO.

The lead singers for Fleet Foxes, Boh, and MMJ need to form a side project called the "Jim James Singers" and tour together. I'd pay at least $1,000 to see it.

Holy hell! After reading that, "YAMF" has become all the more amazing! Tweedy dumbing down his lyrics, indeed.

Didn't he say that they have some improvisational jams they've been sitting on? Also, the *very* early 2005 rumors mentioned them listening to a lot of Fela Kuti.

I think a lot of songs on YHF are overrated... I don't get why SBS is called mellow and boring when you got snoozers like 'Kamera', 'Radio Cure', 'Poor Places', and 'Ashes'.

While perhaps not the best, I think the solo in Either Way is great in how it serve as both a passionate release from the bridge, yet provides a great buildup for 'maybe the sun will shiiiiiiiine...'

I think Sky Blue Sky is wonderful because there are so many instances on the album (Walken, Sky Blue Sky, Patient With Me, and the bridge of "Either Way") where you have some very complex stuff theory-wise, but it's pulled off like its 1-4-5-4. "Shake it Off" is also hella difficult, but I think they forgot about the accessibility part with that one, so that doesn't count.

'Yellow House' is definitely one of those "give it about fifty listens" albums... the first few skimmings, it was the most awful stuff I ever heard. It's a very intricate, rewarding album, but then again, I don't condone esoteric, inaccessible albums that have to be listened fifty times either.

Was kind of dissapointed. Not a bad book, but certainly didn't go out with a bang, either.

Wow; that's awesome that Tweedy likes Grizzly Bear. I don't know... "Yellow House" has something very special to it. Just as evocative as AGiB.

Musically, it's pretty much a showcase for everyone to shine. Tweedy's lyricism is the best it's ever been, and his vocals in the middle section have a whole new sense of range and clarity after the cigarette drawl-whisper of AGiB and YHF. John's harmonies are gorgeous; Nels' solo is the shit, while Pat's fills and Mike's comping is delicious. Glenn, Mike, and Pat's parts are pretty difficult, but like most everything else on the album, come off as deceptively casual. "Our voices lift so easily, a gift given accidentally, when we're not sure we're not alone" is, I think, one of Tweedy's b
