  1. I just tried to get a better pair of tickets for Baltimore than I got in the presale the other day. I got in exactly at 10 and almost the entire front half of the center orchestra was gone, except for a pair in the fourth row that I added to my cart and then immediately lost them. What a load of crap. There are already 8 seats in the front row and 10 in the second on StubHub. They were probably never for sale to the general public. The seats we have are good, and I know the show will be great. I've been doing this long enough that I shouldn't be shocked or disgusted by scalping, but it just
  2. Last week I used their mobile app to buy tickets for the second Phish show in Philadelphia. I pulled up great seats, then got an error when I was checking out, and it appeared I'd lost them. I ended up buying lawn tickets just to have something. Then an hour later, I got a confirmation that my first order had in fact gone through. The problem was there's a 4 ticket limit for the show and I now had 6 tickets. I called them, worried they were going to cancel both orders and we'd lose our great seats. They said there wasn't anything they could do right away but that they'd make a note on my accou
  3. The Wilco store is taking preorders for the new Singers album, including bundles that include a t-shirt. All preorders will be entered to win one of three weekly prizes. All vinyl orders, including bundles, are delayed 6-7 weeks because of a production delay with the vinyl. I'll probably get a shirt and CD and get the vinyl later. One month 'til these guys hit the road! I can't wait to see them again!
  4. I was trying to get Phish tickets for my boyfriend and completely forgot the DC show went on sale at the same time. Now I can't pull up any tickets. I guess that's the universe's way of telling me it wasn't meant to be. Hopefully he adds another show somewhere I can get to the day before.
  5. The DC show will be GA, according to the presale. I didn't get tickets because they're will call only and I'm still not 100% sure I can go. I'm teaching a summer class that meets until 4:30 that day two hours away, which will make it almost impossible to be there when doors open at 6:30.
  6. I forgot about that. Still, it was a festival show. It seems like that's all Philadelphia gets anymore. The last two times Wilco have played in Philly, it's been as part of WXPN's festival, and both were shortened sets. Their last non-festival show there was in 2009. That seems weird to me.
  7. Nels and Julian Lage will be playing at the Ottawa Jazz Festival on June 25: http://ottawajazzfestival.com/artists/julian-lage-nels-cline/
  8. Philadelphia hasn't had a solo show in as long as I can remember. It would be nice if Jeff played there on June 9 or June 11. I'll go to DC if I have to, but Philadelphia is less of a hassle, especially in terms of traffic.
  9. Nels and Julian Lage will play two shows as part of the Rochester Jazz Festival on June 23. Unfortunately, it looks like the only way to get tickets is to buy a $194 pass for the festival
  10. http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2014/03/17/medeski-martin-wood-improvise-with-nels-cline-on-jade-song-premiere/ The Wall Street Journal (oddly enough) is streaming a song called "Jade" from MMW+C's album. Very cool stuff. I'm also geeking out about the fact that I'll get to hear two new Nels albums in seven days, since this comes out April 22 and the new NC Singers album comes out April 29. I would be surprised if they didn't do some US shows. I'm also guessing that if Nels' residency at the Stone in New York does happen in August (he wasn't 100% sure last time I talked to him) this could b
  11. I'm really excited to hear this and hoping they do some shows in the U.S. Seeing them play together at Solid Sound left me wanting more! In the meantime, hopefully some recordings will turn up from the European tour. This is the first time Wilco has had an extended break in a long time. In a way, I'm actually much more interested in the kinds of things they're doing now, because it's new ideas and creative energy they can bring back to Wilco at some point. I'd rather wait for a really good album than get a rushed, subpar one.
  12. Here's an announcement about the new Nels Cline Singers album Macroscope, including a stream of a new song called "Companion Piece." http://noisey.vice.com/blog/nels-cline-singers-companion-piece-stream-premiere Tour dates, too! May 1 - New York / Le Poisson Rouge May 2 - Philadelphia / Johnny Brenda’s May 4 - Hamilton / DC May 6 - Evanston / Space / Evanston, IL (Chicago play) May 7 - Dazzle Jazz / Denver, CO May 8 - Largo / Los Angeles, CA May 9 - The Chapel / San Francisco, CA Tickets for all the shows are on sale Friday.
  13. They processed my refund for the 10% today, and I came home to find my records waiting for me. I forgot how quickly Pop Market ships.
  14. I double checked my account and they did the same thing to me. I emailed them about it, too.
  15. Thanks for the head's up! The price was what kept me from getting them. I'm glad I waited.
  16. I was hoping to make the trip to New York to see Glenn perform at Carnegie Hall on February 22, but it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it. My ticket is for row AA, seat 8, which is near the center of the front row. Including processing fees, the ticket was $46. It's an e-ticket, so I can email it to you, and I'd prefer to use PayPal. More information about the performance here: http://www.carnegiehall.org/Calendar/2014/2/22/0600/PM/Glenn-Kotche-and-Victoire/ It looks like it's going to be an amazing night. I hate that I'm going to miss it!
  17. I just got a front row ticket for this in February: http://www.carnegiehall.org/Calendar/2014/2/22/0600/PM/Glenn-Kotche-Victoire/ I haven't gotten the chance to see Glenn perform apart from Wilco before, so I'm really excited about it.
  18. Nels will be giving the keynote address at Music University, presented by the Des Moines Music Coalition, on October 19 at Drake University's Harmon Fine Arts Center. Tickets for the whole day of events are only $20 (less if you're a musician or a student), which is a real bargain. He'll be playing in New York with Jenny Scheinman's Mischief and Mayhem September 16 in New York, then will be hitting the road for a string of shows on the west coast with Ben Goldberg's Unfold Ordinary Mind. Here's the full list of those shows, from his website:
  19. I didn't know this. Any idea where I can get it? For anyone in the New York area, Nels will apparently be doing a Q+A after the screening of this and In Search of Blind Joe Death (a film about John Fahey) tomorrow night at Cinema Village. Here's the full list of where the pair of movies will be playing. Hopefully this list grows.
  20. I really hate the new song. It seems overpolished and boring and safe. I used to be a huge Avetts fan and would regularly travel to see them, but if this is the direction they're headed in, I'm probably done with them. I passed on the chance to see them next month to go to a jazz show that night instead, and hearing this song made me so glad that I did. I wasn't too crazy about the last album, either (the super deluxe box set I bought will go up on ebay eventually), but there were at least a few songs I liked. Part of what I used to love about the band was their earnestness. When the news s
  21. Nels will be playing with Jenny Scheinman's Mischief and Mayhem at le poisson rouge in New York on September 16. I have to teach the next morning, so I can't go
  22. I hope to hell last night's show gets put up in the Roadcase. I'm dying to hear a good recording of the Bob Weir collaborations, especially St. Stephen.
