  1. While I'm really hoping for some sort of vinyl box set, I'm really hoping they don't put it out for Record Store Day, because then it will be really expensive and really difficult to get.
  2. The pricing of these things is just silly. I wouldn't consider that huge set if it was even half the price. I was figuring they'd just release the album on 180 gram for $30 or $40, then do the vinyl box set. I'm to the point with U2 that I really don't want the super duper deluxe here's a lock of Bono's hair and two drops of Adam Clayton's sweat in a tiny vial box sets. I just wanted to hear the remastered vinyl version of what was for a long time my favorite album. Hopefully when the fuss dies down the prices will drop, too.
  3. I can't believe the vinyl version is over $100. I'm so disappointed, because I've wanted AB on vinyl for years, but there's no way I'm paying that much for it, especially when I'm not interested in the remixes. If the bonus albums were the B-sides instead maybe I'd consider it, but I guess there's not going to be a release of just the album on vinyl. I doubt this is going to get the price of original copies to drop on ebay, either.
  4. Nels is among the special guests who will appear with Cibo Matto at the Japan Society in New York this Thursday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are still available. For more information or to buy tickets, go here.
  5. What this thread is turning into represents everything I've come to really hate about this site and why I hardly ever post here anymore. Wilco is playing a handful of hometown shows at a variety of venues smallish venues, and some people are still managing to find a way to complain about them. I'm pretty sure the band could play free shows in every venue in town and some people would still find something negative to say. I wish I could come out for any of these shows, but I can't take time off from my teaching job at that point in the semester. Instead of complaining about it, I'm just going
  6. My package arrived today. When I ordered, I thanked them for the blue raspberry Airhead they sent me last time, and they sent me six this time, plus my 7" I ordered this so long ago I forgot I also got the strawberry-colored version of their reissue of Deerhoof's album Milk Man, and in the meantime I picked up the banana-colored version at my local shop. Doh!
  7. I got a blue one with the Deerhoof record I got in January. I'm glad to find out I should have another one in the next few days!
  8. Then how about you give your ticket to somebody who doesn't care what they play? If you're so jaded before you've even seen them once on this tour, you might as well just stay home and let somebody else have a chance to see them. I saw both the Toronto shows and the show at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The set lists were fairly similar and included some songs I would've preferred not hearing in favor of some rarer ones, but I was never bored or disappointed. Even some of the old standards have new life injected in them (the latest arrangement of Poor Places is the best version of it I've hear
  9. My copy is showing The Whole Love to start side 3 instead of being between Rising Red Lung and One Sunday Morning. That's also the track listing that the Wilco store is showing. I probably won't have a chance to listen to it until this weekend, but I'm hoping it's just a misprint.
  10. I haven't had a chance to listen to my vinyl copy yet, but I'm weirded out by the fact that the songs are in a different order on the record. What's up with that?
  11. This was my 21st Wilco show and it was by far the worst crowd I've ever been in. I was in the fourth row of the center section where kavorka and his friends were standing and having a blast but being really polite to everybody around them, too. They weren't bumping into people or taking up more space than just in front of their seats or anything like that. People were irate that they wouldn't sit and were yelling some really awful things. I was appalled, especially when people started tossing empty water bottles and beer cups. That's so not how Wilco shows usually are, and I felt awful for the
  12. Nels will be performing as part of Jenny Scheinman's Mischief and Mayhem at the Village Vanguard in New York tonight through Sunday. Sets are at 9 and 11 each night and are $35 apiece ($25 admission + $10 toward drinks). This is an excellent quartet featuring Jenny Scheinman on violin, Nels on guitar, Todd Sickafoose on bass, and Jim Black on drums. Tomorrow's early set will be webcast by NPR as part of their Live from the Village Vanguard series. I think it's audio and video, but I'm not sure. They were fantastic when I saw them last summer, and I'm looking forward to seeing them again tomo
  13. The person you're quoting probably wouldn't appreciate you taking something said among friends and sharing it publicly. I was part of that conversation, too, and you're alluding to something I said without context. Not cool. This band has done a hell of a lot for its fans over the years, and questioning the policy doesn't mean not appreciating that they're trying to do right by the people who are so loyal to them. It's not a fool-proof policy--as evidenced by all the tickets still already on craigslist--and I think a lot of people were caught off-guard when it was announced so close to the dat
  14. Does it sound all right otherwise? My turntable has a button to switch between 33s and 45s. You may just have yours on the wrong speed. And I'm sure if you contact Kung Fu, they'll send you a replacement. I hope the whole batch isn't like that!
  15. The venue/radio station/promoter presales often have passwords, but it's a really good idea to PM rather than just post them here. Helping out fellow fans is great, but just putting passwords here helps the scalpers, too, and sort of defeats the purpose.
  16. Thanks for digging up all that information, A-man. That's exactly what I was suggesting. It's been awhile since I've read the fine print. It's good to know that suspicious purchases get reviewed. That's not going to keep all tickets out of secondary markets, but it will at least keep some. I wonder how much longer it will be until Wilco starts doing what many other bands do and make presale tickets will call-only. Anyone who can read and follow written directions and is reasonably internet savvy can go through the presale process (can you shop online? If yes, then you're internet savvy enou
  17. Mods, since there are going to be a load of new members in the coming months, as there are every time a new album comes out, can I suggest that you make two new threads to pin at the top of this forum, on a presale FAQ and one a "New members, read this thread before posting" kind of thing? I bet that would cut down on a whole lot of redundancy, especially in the next few days leading up to the presale. Otherwise, there will likely be a lot of
  18. They're doing what most bands do, which is play primary markets around the time the album is released. They'll play secondary markets and maybe even some smaller ones next time around, I'm guessing. They tour often enough that I'm sure they'll play just about everywhere eventually (something I was convinced of when I saw them play in Scranton of all places last year).
  19. It's also worth mentioning that I've gotten great seats in general sales over the years, too. The pre-sales won't offer the best 10% of the venue, but instead usually more of a mix.
  20. At faculty meetings, my department sometimes votes on whether or not we're ready to vote on things.
  21. The Dylan song I'd most like to hear Jeff cover is "Boots of Spanish Leather."
  22. Amazon has a good selection of new releases in its $5 albums for the month. I got Tune-Yards and Wye Oak and will probably go back for the Jolie Holland album at some point. I forgot to mention drone/ambient/experimentalist Noveller's new album the other day. I haven't heard it yet, but based on how much I enjoy her other work, I'm pretty sure I'm going to enjoy it. I also forgot the B B + C album (Berne, Black, and Cline). I haven't played that one yet, either, but considering how much I enjoy all three of them, I'm guessing I'll really like it.
  23. I think Jeff spending some time with Deerhoof is exactly what Wilco needs.
  24. I know Deerhoof is a very love 'em or hate 'em band, but they're one of my favorites, and I'm very excited that they're coming to my town in September. I was just reading this article on Pitchfork and was very, very surprised to come across this tidbit: That's incredibly cool! I know Nels adores Deerhoof, and now that Jeff has worked with them, hopefully they'll be on a Solid Sound roster in the not-too-distant future. Full article here for anyone who's interested.
