  1. I'd be shocked if that didn't get a CD/DVD release by Christmas. I think James tweeted that it's in the works. While musically maybe not the best concert I've ever been to, it was an incredible spectacle, not to mention that it was amazing to see an arena that big jam-packed with people who were deliriously happy.
  2. I listened to this album for most of my four-hour drive home from Solid Sound on Tuesday. It's perfect sunny day driving music with smart, catchy lyrics and a nice variety of songs. Had I known I was going to enjoy it so much, I would've picked it up on vinyl, too. I have a feeling this will be one of my favorite albums for the year.
  3. I think my friend and I met you after Nels and Thurston's set
  4. I was surprised that I got kind of bored when I was watching them on Saturday (I think it was more me than it was their performance), but I picked up the record anyway. It sounds great on vinyl--really warm and lush. I've been buying lots of music this year, but most of it has been older releases, especially since I've only had my record player for six months. Deerhoof vs. Evil is my favorite album of the year so far. I'm going to predict that it will stay in at least my top three and will most likely be joined by the new Wilco and Evangelista albums due out in the fall. I haven't spent enou
  5. Deeper Down is one of my least favorite Wilco songs. How to Fight Loneliness is probably the only Wilco song I really love but still haven't ever heard live, not after 16 times seeing the whole band and three times seeing Jeff solo. Go figure.
  6. I remember they played at my favorite club in Tallahassee a day or two before my birthday...seven months after I'd moved to upstate NY
  7. You need one of those 45 converters to be able to play it. There's no separate piece that pops out. My record player came with one, but they were selling them this weekend and have them in the Wilco store as well. I'm glad the single came with a download, too, because I don't want to play the record too much. It's tempting, though, since it sounds great! I may pick up a second copy of it if I can find one locally. I got two there but gave one to a friend who hadn't gotten it yet. I really love the song--it's layered and orchestrated in that way I've been waiting for from this lineup. I'm ver
  8. I have a hunch they'll do some TV appearances on those days off between New York and MPP, especially since that's right before the album comes out. I'll be making my first border crossing for Wilco, after opting for Chicago rather than Toronto last time around
  9. While I'm glad to see Nels getting mentioned on a site as big as The Atlantic's, that description is wrongheaded in so many ways. For starters, the only way anything Nels has ever played with Wilco has ever been inflammatory has been to his back! And "arty texture"? That's one of those phrases that seems like it's descriptive but actually doesn't describe much (sorry...that's the writing teacher in me kicking in). I think this is a good example of what happens when someone who doesn't often write about music tries to write about a band he clearly doesn't listen to much and is stretching to mak
  10. Regardless of how your stay goes, I would post a review on Trip Advisor about what the management put you through. There aren't many hotels in this area, so people need to know that this one will apparently play games with customers to make a little extra money during busy times. I'm glad it sounds like you both got things sorted out!
  11. It was the very last show at Madison Square Garden. He came out for part of 45:33. We had pretty good seats, but I still felt like we were a million miles away. I wish I could've made it down for one of the smaller shows, but my teaching schedule was too tough to work around last semester. I'm hoping that show gets a DVD/live album release. It sounds like it's in the works. It's the only time I got to see them, and while other shows have sounded better or meant more to me emotionally, it's hard to think of another one I've been to up to this point that can top the spectacle that night was.
  12. I've been listening to the National so much lately, especially Alligator. I'm really excited that I got a second row seat to the first of those two shows they're doing with Yo La Tengo and Wye Oak at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia in September.
  13. This sounds like it was a really cool show. Thanks for posting about it. I saw Reggie Watts perform with LCD Soundsystem in April and have been meaning to check out some of his work.
  14. I haven't gotten around to it, either. I'm teaching a summer class, so most of my music listening has been a background to grading. I want to wait until I can give it the attention it deserves. I may listen to it as I'm driving up to Solid Sound next week, though. I may listen to Thurston's new album then, too.
  15. Jenny Scheinman's Mischief and Mayhem will be playing at the Village Vanguard August 16-21.
  16. Thank you! I wanted to come down for this, but I had to get ready to go out of town yesterday. I hope this wasn't a one-time pairing!
  17. I think that must be a testament to how strong of a relationship you two have! I love my mom, but two weeks in the car with her?
  18. It's also a very boring drive in terms of scenery, so bring good music! Other than Cleveland, the whole drive is pretty uneventful. As I told a friend who might also be driving out from the Midwest, I recommend taking the Thruway across New York rather than I-86. It's a toll road, but if you have an E-Z Pass (or whatever it's called in Indiana...it seems to differ by state), it will work. In fact, it may be worth getting one if you don't have one. The Thruway is better cared for and has nice rest stops, at least some of which have free wifi.
  19. So would you rather no one have mentioned them here, meaning nobody (including you) saw them unless they came across them on their own...and then posted about them here, which most likely would lead to their privacy settings being changed? If the person who found them didn't share, someone on here would have accused him o being greedy.
  20. There's a Greyhound that leaves the Port Authority at 5 on Friday and gets to Williamstown at 9:45. It's $51. I'd assume it will take longer because of traffic at that time of day, but you might still be able to catch the tail end of Wilco. You could take the cheaper Peter Pan bus back Sunday. There's a Saturday morning bus, too, but by the time you get there you'll have missed a good chunk of Saturday's events. I'd be more worried about finding a room at this point. That will be tougher if you don't have a car. You can check the festival website to see what hotels still have openings.
  21. They seemed to do a lot more marketing this year, so I expect it will be fuller. I hope it's not jam packed and that food and drink prices stay the same, since they were very reasonable. I also like that they have taps where you could fill up a water bottle for free and that they had free wifi all weekend. I hope they offer that again this year, since I had an easier time getting emails and texts than I did voicemail. AT&T service was spotty for me and for some of my friends in and around North Adams. They say no outside food or drink, but I was able to take snacks in last year and didn'
