  1. Yeah, that was the Pines show. That was my first Wilco show, strangely enough. The band that was supposed to open started with an M, I think? That's all I remember. I had one of those suitcases, too
  2. Have you tried from different browsers? It may be a plugin problem in whatever browser you're using. Also, doesn't TM have an option where it will play an audio captcha for people who are blind? You might try that, too.
  3. Think of it like this: because this is a public section of the forum, anyone (members or not) can see it. In the future, it may be better to share passwords only via PM. Of course you're being friendly and trying to help, but unfortunately you've helped the scalpers, too.
  4. This is a great album, probably my favorite Nels-related album of the year. I've mentioned it in a few other threads, but both iTunes and Amazon's mp3 store are selling it at an EP's price, both under $4. I haven't gotten around to getting a hard copy yet but do definitely plan to. Watt's songwriting for each band member is really very keen. It really makes me kick myself for missing the Central Park show last summer. I was planning on going, then couldn't find an affordable hotel and decided to scrap the trip. Nels' engagement has been mentioned on here. I think it was actually Watt who po
  5. $45 isn't an unreasonable price to see Jeff solo, especially not in what's usually a very expensive market. I paid around that to see him a few years ago (and came away thinking it wasn't really worth it, mostly because Jeff was in one of those moods that night). I was looking at tickets for another show there a few weeks ago, and with fees they worked out to about $50, so it's not unreasonable for the venue, either. Artists don't set ticket prices. I'm guessing they have very little say at all. Chances are that's something the promoter and the booking agency have to agree on, and as long as i
  6. I like Danger Mouse's work a lot, so I'm very curious about that one. That's exciting news.
  7. Being a fan of a band doesn't have to mean loving every album they put out. Criticizing and debating doesn't always equate complaining, either. Posts that can dissect songs and talk about why the poster doesn't think they're working are a lot more interesting to me than some of the posts we see around here from people who seem to blindly like anything Wilco puts out simply because it's by Wilco. It's great that Wilco has loyal fans like that, but not liking an album or two or certain songs doesn't make someone else less of a fan.
  8. This is one of my favorite albums of the year--sharp, funny songwriting and catchy music. Dance Yrself Clean and I Can Change are my favorites, but there are so many good songs. I didn't know them at all before this album, but I immediately bought Sound of Silver and the self-titled album, but this one I think is by far the best. The video for Drunk Girls is absolutely hilarious, too. I can't watch it without busting out laughing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdRaf3-OEh4
  9. Did I miss the memo that October is Ridiculous Album Covers Month for Nels? I know the Dirty Baby cover is a play on Rucha's style, but it's still silly. I much prefer the more minimalistic style of the box set packaging. Also, it's worth mentioning that Amazon has the box set on sale for around $75 (it retails for $125). Chances are I'll be holding off and asking Santa for this one, because I think it will make more sense to put the art, music, and poems together rather than listen to the music separately. The Floored By Four cover makes them seem inflated and pretentious, and the
  10. Clearly this line indicates there are people who think you can be sued via email
  11. I'll be seeing him for the seventh time next month, oddly enough in an arena I was last in for the graduation ceremony for my Ph.D. program. He seemed like he was having an off night the last time I saw him, in the summer of 2008 near Rochester, and I said at the time I wouldn't see him again, but it sounds like more recent shows have been better. The copy of I'm Not There I got from Netflix has been on my coffee table for almost a month. Now that I have a few days off, I hope to finally get around to watching it. I really like the soundtrack, so I'm curious to see how the movie compares.
  12. I wonder if they'll finally release the version of Miami featuring Allen Ginsberg from that ABC special they did around the time Pop came out. I have a less than stellar mp3 of it but would love to have it in better quality. They'll be closing the U.S. leg of the tour next summer with a show in Pittsburgh July 26. Tickets go on sale Monday. I'm thinking of going, but I'll have to hope I can find a ticket later, because there's no way I'm buying a concert ticket that far in advance
  13. Thank you from the English professor for adding missing punctuation!
  14. The Singers' appearance on NPR's Piano Jazz that they recorded in July will be airing this weekend, according to the show's website. Check your local listings or wait for it to appear in the archive, hopefully in a week or so. I hope Divining and King Queen are part of the set list. Those are the two songs they've been playing a lot lately that resonate with me the most. I think it's pretty safe to guess songs like Floored and Thurston County (the stuff I'd rather hear) probably aren't--Marian McPartland doesn't strike me as someone who enjoys noise
  15. I really like parts of the album but was bored in other places. I don't think I've spent enough time with it yet to know for sure whether it will be an album I go back to often. Acid Tongue took awhile to sink in for me, too, and I like it much more two years later than I did when it first came out. They're opening for Phoenix at a show here in a few weeks. I have no interest in seeing Phoenix but may go just because I want to hear Jenny Lewis's voice in person. That's probably worth $20 to me, and I can leave after they're done and get home for my responsible adult school year bedtime.
  16. God, I am, too. Like Tom said, the last few albums have lacked the kinds of things that only Wilco can do. I don't want a Wilco album that could be made by another band. I want something more layered and sonically adventurous. Experimenting doesn't always mean eight-minute drones, but it does mean not making an album that sounds like a lot of other things that are out there. Ending their relationship with Nonesuch and starting their own label will give them the freedom to do this, and it would be a waste of that freedom to continue in the same direction. I'd love to hear them build upon "One W
  17. I've been aware of him for awhile and had been meaning to check out some of his work, but I've been finding so many new artists in the last year or so that I never got around to him. It was his track on that John Prine tribute album earlier this year that reminded me of him again. Was that album ever discussed around here? It's great stuff, and I'm not a John Prine fan at all.
  18. Certain people's brain chemistry makes them more prone to addiction. Genetics are a part of that predisposition, and while nothing guarantees someone is going to develop a substance abuse problem, this predisposition makes it more difficult for these people to stop once they start drinking and/or drugging. He'd be an idiot if he continued using and hurting himself and those around him. Instead, he's trying to get his life back on track. Calling an addict stupid makes about as much sense as telling a depressed person to cheer up. It's much more complicated than that, and once a person recover

I may head down for the Philadelphia show if teaching hasn't gotten too chaotic by that point in the semester
  20. That's weird, because the link worked this morning. This looks like it should work.
  21. This album is a choice for Amazon's create your own deal of the day. With the discount, it comes down to $4.99 Get it here.Make sure you copy and paste the discount code, because the discount isn't automatic.
  22. I also remember reading (maybe in that same article) that Jeff said they'd rerecord the demos if anything sounded off after Mike and Nels added their parts. I wouldn't read too much into it. Keep in mind that Wilco approaches the recording of each album really differently. Remember that for SBS they recorded everything live, with the six of them sitting together playing. They used the studio a lot more for W(TA). I'm really hoping that they'll use their departure from Nonesuch as a reason to experiment a lot more broadly on the next album. It does sound like they've blocked out a lot of the
  23. Rumor has it they'll be adding a show in Pittsburgh to close the rescheduled U.S. leg of the tour next summer. If this turns out to be true, I may make the trip. I want to see U2 one last time, and an end of leg show seems to be a good choice.
