  1. I thought I saw Rick at one point during the night! I was hobbling around on a crutch, so I wasn't mingling too much.
  2. I was in the same situation, bullmind, so I feel your pain. Thankfully folks around here are great about reporting on shows. It's good to hear Jeff is finally feeling better. I can't imagine how horrible performing must be when you feel like you're going to puke. Nels has been having a lot of problems with broken strings lately. He broke one or two last weekend in Rochester, too. No wonder he was frustrated, since it happened during his shining moment of the set. Either that or he was just upset that I wasn't there I'm really bummed out I had to miss this. I would've loved to hear how Spi
  3. That pretty much sums up how I feel. My parents live about three hours from DC in southern Pennsylvania, so I'd thought about driving down and back that day, but it would be so chaotic, and chances are I wouldn't really get to see anything meaningful anyway.
  4. We got hit pretty hard with snow--about 10 inches by the time all was said and done--but thankfully there was no ice and we still have power and heat. Unfortunately I couldn't go to Philly today, but that's the way things go sometimes. I know it could be a lot worse. Vibes to everybody who's been affected by the storm.
  5. Because of a snowstorm, I'm unfortunately not going to be able to make it down to Philly tonight, so my friends are going to have an extra ticket. They're in section 203, I think row 7 or 8. Face value was $109, but I'll take what I can get for it. PM me if you're interested and I'll give you their number. This sucks.
  6. I don't know...I'm thinking I may just hold out for the official release date on this one. I'm really looking forward to it, but I've been buying a lot of music lately, so I probably won't even miss it for a few more weeks.

  8. Wow, that would've been pretty wild. The TLA is a lot smaller than the Tower, so I'm sure it would've been packed. And I would've been so mad, because then I would've missed TWO Wilco shows because of this damn snowstorm.
  9. A head's up for anyone coming down from NY or northern PA: it looks like there's a pretty bad storm coming tomorrow into Friday. It's seriously looking like I may not be able to make it. I'm so upset right now
  10. There's also a show at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia on January 25th...and I still can't go The TLA isn't a bad place to see a show. I saw Sonic Youth and the Hold Steady there back in September.
  11. I listened to HTDAAB a lot when it came out, but it's not an album I've been revisiting very much. There are a few songs on it I like, but there are also some lyrics that really make me cringe. I actually like A Man and a Woman, but Miracle Drug is pretty awful ("freedom has a scent like the top of a newborn baby's head?" WTF, Bono?). I worry that Bono is getting too cheesy and sentimental as a songwriter. I'm not quite sure what changed between Pop and ATYCLB, but his lyrics started taking a turn for the worse then. It's nice being able to talk about U2 critically without getting attacked.
  12. I loved the EP and the first two full albums, and I could even tolerate parts of the last album, but I'm not a huge fan of this new album. As others have said, it's very generic-sounding. I also really question why they'd open the album with three rockers, then fill the rest with all these medium-tempo songs, because after awhile they all just sound the same to me. There aren't any songs on the album I hate, but none of them really stand out to me. I think opening for U2 was actually a bad thing for them. It's as if they got too comfortable playing in arenas and changed directions so that th
  13. That pretty much captures how I've felt about REM for the last eight or nine years. I lost interest in them when Bill Berry left the band. The last one of their albums I bought was Up, and I didn't like it very much. ATYCLB is U2's worst album, in my opinion. I loved Pop, though (I think it features some of Bono's best and most personal songwriting on songs like Gone, Mofo, and Wake Up Dead Man), and HTDAAB won me back after I stopped listening to them for awhile. I'm hopeful about the new album. I certainly wouldn't call U2 my favorite band anymore, but I think they've got at least one grea
  14. About half of Cardinology has grown on me. I still really don't care for the second half of the album, but up to Crossed Out Name I've been really enjoying. Half a decent album is still more than I can say for a few other bands whose new releases I was looking forward to this year. I'm glad to see they're hitting the road again at the start of next year. I'll definitely catch them again if they come within two hours or so of me. Aside from Andrew Bird, that was probably my favorite non-Wilco/Nels show of the year.
  15. It was Passenger Side. The show was surprisingly loud. I think this was the first time I ever wished I had earplugs for a Wilco show.
  16. I definitely saw at least two tapers. I forgot to mention this in my other post, but I really enjoyed Jennifer O'Connor's set. I missed her at the Wilmington show back in August, so I had no idea what to expect. She's got some really sharp lyrics, and she and her band had a bigger, richer sound than I was expecting. I got her CD last night, and I'm looking forward to listening to it.
  17. When I finally got home at 3 a.m., I was going to start this thread, but I didn't pay any attention to the order of the set list because you were there Before Heavy Metal Drummer, Jeff quipped that they were playing their "greatest hits" package since it was their first time in Rochester. It was a fairly standard set list, but what was so great about last night was the energy. The band was loose and even silly at times, and their enthusiasm seemed to bring something new to a lot of the songs. I confess I was starting to get a little tired of Impossible Germany, but Nels's solo was the very
  18. It's fitting that you'll trade me for PBR, because I think every PBR I've had in my entire life has been with you. I have no idea how much we're going to be able to see from our seats, but regardless, it's definitely going to be a good time.
  19. That's a bit anti-climactic, isnt it? I was really sure that if they were waiting so long to announce it that it must be someone notable. Oh well. I can't believe the show is tomorrow night already! The past few weeks have been really busy for me, so I'm looking forward to getting a break. I'll be the one with the almost-healed sprained ankle on one crutch
  20. You just traded me for two beers? That's the one thing I miss least about living in PA--no beer in the grocery stores. I'm looking forward to a cheesesteak. Strangely, I don't think I've ever had one while in Philly.
