  1. But when you're Kim Deal, you can goof off and still be awesome.
  2. I wonder what "Bono" would think of YHF? For what it's worth, Achtung Baby and YHF are my two favorite albums. I don't love U2 like I used to, but I can't quit them, either.
  3. I live in the city where Cornell is, but I don't know of any websites like the one you mentioned. I definitely wish we had one, though, instead of those local papers. I know the Cornell student newspaper (the Daily Sun? something like that) has a website, and if you poke around Cornell's website you may be able to find links to some of the kinds of websites you're looking for about Ithaca. And if you find any, pass them on to me
  4. I enjoyed Low, possibly because I was still in the parking lot drinking beer while they were playing. From my experiences with the Retribution Gospel Choir, I think I would've enjoyed them less had I already been inside. In a slightly different setting, they'd probably be a band I'd enjoy live, and I do like some of their music, but they didn't seem to have the right energy level for a Wilco show, especially an outdoor one.
  5. I'm coming to town in the afternoon, but since we have seats, we won't be showing up too early. I'm so glad we decided to get seats. I'm recovering from an ankle sprain and am still on crutches, so GA wouldn't be possible. I hate that the sports complex is a vast wasteland in terms of bars and restaurants. We're staying near the airport, but we may have to go more into the city to find a place to eat. Suggestions are welcome!
  6. Still nothing for Rochester, but Wilcoworld is showing Benjy Ferree and the opener for Baltimore now.
  7. Well, that's a bummer. Still, the fact that they haven't announced an opening act despite the fact that tickets say that there will be a special guest leads me to believe it's going to be somebody cool. Maybe they don't want to give scalpers the chance to make a buck? Regardless, I'm really looking forward to Saturday.
  8. So far today: Beck--Modern Guilt The Black Keys--Attack & Release Dr. Dog--Fate Jenny Lewis--Acid Tongue
  9. That'd be wild. I'm not believing it until I actually see it, though.
  10. I bought this today, largely because of how highly folks around here talk about Dr. Dog, and because Amazon had it for $5. I'm really enjoying it so far.
  11. Dear Santa, I've been very good this year. All I want for Christmas is to see Nels play with Neil Young in Philly. I promise to leave you cookies and milk (or maybe even a Mojo) on Christmas Eve if you make this happen. Your friend, Three dollars and 63 cents
  12. Ooh, Todd Sickafoose, too? That's going to be awesome
  13. Every semester at least a handful of my students know who Wilco is. I think one or two of my colleagues recognize the name, but most of them know Wilco only from what they overhear coming from my office.
  14. That's about what I was expecting, both in terms of length and set list. I'm guessing they may alternate a few songs--maybe War on War for Pot Kettle Black, Heavy Metal Drummer, or Shot In the Arm and California Stars for another Woody Guthrie song--but this is probably close to the set list we'll see for the whole tour. Sort of the Wilco "greatest hits" package, but they're all great songs and will probably translate well to the larger space.
  15. I pre-ordered my copy. I was a little surprised it's $26, but it sounds like it will be well worth it. I also went ahead and ordered a copy of Live In Montreal, since I've been meaning to.
  16. Instead of their usual Friday five, Amazon is offering the 50 top-selling albums of the year for $5 apiece. Some of them are junk, but there's Fleet Foxes, Vampire Weekend, TV On the Radio, David Byrne and Brian Eno, Beck, and a few others that are worth picking up if you don't have them already.
  17. I'm seeing them headline next Saturday in Rochester, then open for Neil Young the following Friday in Philadelphia. Of course I'm excited about seeing Wilco twice in one week, but I'm also really curious to see how different the two performances will be, if at all. I can't wait to hear some of the big guitar songs like "Impossible Germany" in an arena, even though it's going to be strange being so far back. I'm so glad they're opening for Neil--I've wanted to see him again for quite awhile but needed an added incentive to make the four-hour trip down to Philly in the middle of December. But
  18. Clearly you're a stronger woman than I am then
  19. I'm thankful for a lot this year, and I'll come back and post about it tomorrow, but right now I'm thankful that all of our company has finally left and the cats have come out of the hiding spots they've been in since 10:30 this morning.
  20. Yeah, it definitely seems to say "That much tequila was so not a good idea. Sunlight. Ouch."
  21. I was near Hershey, and the station was 88.7. If I remember correctly, it's a really eclectic high school station out of Middletown, but it doesn't broadcast too far. The rest of the dial around here is crap, except when I can get WXPN, either faintly on its main station at 88.1 or at 89-something for the Harrisburg station.
  22. I heard Jeff's solo version of "The Thanks I Get" from Sunken Treasure on a radio station today in central Pennsylvania. I think it was a local high school station, but I'm not sure. Regardless, I was amazed.
  23. Here. There's also a new poster gallery, and some new pictures from the Loft in the photostream on the main page.
  24. Happy birthday! I hope Lyric baked you a great big cake!
