One of the things I love about Tanglewood is that you can bring your own food and drinks in. I'm not sure what their policies about bringing things into the shed will be, though. I don't remember seeing vendors when I was there, but I wasn't looking for them, either. I'd suggest bringing a small picnic basket or cooler. You can have exactly what you want, and it will be a lot cheaper than what they'd be selling if there is food and drinks for sale.

Lou Reed in Northampton, MA
Three dollars and 63 cents replied to Mrs. Peel's topic in After The Show
Thanks for posting this. I was wondering how the show was. I really wish I could've come up for it, especially after I found out Thurston Moore was opening. -
I was planning on staying with a friend who lives in Northampton and coming to the show with him, but as it turns out, he'll be out of town that week. He offered me his place, but it seems silly to drive an extra two hours roundtrip, so I'm probably just going to stay somewhere around there for the night. I'm probalby going to try to find a place and book a room fairly soon, since I know it's a touristy area and it could be tough finding an affordable place later.

I tried and didn't get one, but I also didn't have my heart set on going. I hope those of you who try to get tickets in the general sale have good luck. The presales have been hit and miss for me. I tried for the Philly show and got shut out, but I ended up getting a 12th row seat in the general sale. I got an excellent seat for Tanglewood the other day and have had luck for a few other shows. I know it's frustrating, but think of it like this, too--a lot of bands make fans join stupid overpriced fan clubs to participate in presales. At least we're getting the chance to participate in them

Are there any bands you hope will reunite?
Three dollars and 63 cents replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
I had fifth row tickets for the Pixies' reunion tour a few years ago, and they canceled that show to go play one in Boston that was recorded for a DVD. I was devastated, because I felt like it was probably going to be my only chance to ever see them. Musically, I think they were very good on that tour, but as was captured on the documentary excellent documentary Loud QUIET Loud, things were really awkward between them. Not tense necessarily, not volatile--just very uncomfortable. Seeing the movie didn't leave me with much hope for a second reunion. -
Nels 3 nights in NYC this week
Three dollars and 63 cents replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
I posted about these over in Someone Else's Song. These shows are part of Cryptogramophone's 10th anniversary celebration. I'll be there Friday, down as close as I can get -
Section 1, row F Raspberry Jam, I also ended up buying a ticket on Nels's side, section 3, row L. I might have a friend who wants it, but if not, I'll be putting it up for grabs here. I'll give you first crack at it if you want. That's actually the ticket I bought first, then I figured I'd check one last time and managed to pull up the one in section 1. There are still good seats coming up now. It's nice to see a presale not selling out immediately.

I was on the lawn when I was there a few years ago. I couldn't see anything, and we weren't that far back. I was able to walk to a place where I could at least take a peek at the stage, but I'm not sure how tightly packed the crowd will be. I'm definitely going to try for a seat, but Wilco while spread out on a blanket under the stars isn't the end of the world, either. I don't think season ticket holders get first crack at tickets, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm giving this a bump since it's coming up this week. Is anybody else going? I'll be there for all three sets Friday night. Their week at the Jazz Standard is to celebrate Crypto's 10th anniversary, as well as the release of their 10th anniversary compilation. There are also shows on Saturday and Sunday, but it doesn't look like Nels will be taking part in those.

Surely it's a typo. I may not be able to log in for the presale, so I might just wait and try my luck Friday in the general sale. I have a friend who lives very close to Tanglewood and goes there quite a bit. It will be reserved seating in the front (under the "shed" part of the "Music Shed") with plenty of lawn seating behind. In the past, he's said they put up video screens, and Tanglewood usually lets you bring food and drinks in. I saw the symphony there a few years ago, and it's really a lovely place. I can't wait to go back. I'm a little disappointed they're not playing the Pines agai

They've added August 4th in Indianapolis

I like that the headline over on WW is "Initial summer tour dates just announced." That suggests there are more to come.

General Info about Musictoday Presales
Three dollars and 63 cents replied to gogo's topic in Just A Fan
What's the ticket limit for presales? Every time I've done them, I've just been buying one ticket, and I'm in and out quickly. The last two summers, a friend was able to get tickets for a group of six of us through the presale, and we're hoping to do that again this year for the Tanglewood show. I just want to make sure the limit isn't lower than that now. -
Excellent. I may try for a ticket for the Wilmington show, too. I haven't decided yet. I wasn't going to, but then I realized that Wilmington is less than two hours from my parents' house.
-
If that's true, then I'd guess the presale would be next Wednesday.

2 New Nels Cline Singers dates...
Three dollars and 63 cents replied to solace's topic in Just A Fan
I'm seeing a set by the Scott Amendola Band and two sets by the Singers next Friday down in New York. It might make my head explode, but I figure if it does, it's a great way to go. I'll let everybody know how different the sets are. -
How amazing would it be if they played with the symphony?

I had a very long and confusing conversation with my dad the last time he saw me in my Wiilco shirt. He had a hard time understanding that a) Wilco is a real band and not cartoons at all, b ) Wiilco is a combination of the Wii and Wilco and is not the actual spelling of the band

Wilcoworld is showing the Retribution Gospel Choir as the openers for the whole spring tour now.

I love the Pines, but Tanglewood is a great place, too, and definitely bigger. I'm guessing they'll be at the big stage, which has some covered seating and is surrounded by fields. I could probably make it to Wilmington, but instead I might just head up to Massachusetts a few days early and spend the time with my friend who lives up there. It will be interesting to see if they fill the two weeks between Brooklyn and that festival in San Francisco.

Wilcoworld is showing August 10 in Delaware and August 12 at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA. Awesome--a Wilco road trip to end my summer!

For what it's worth, I did the screen capture and cropped it for wallpaper for my computer at home, and it doesn't look nearly as good as the picture did online. I don't blame WW for posting the pictures as a slideshow--so many talented photographers have shared their work, and I can understand why they don't want people just saving their pictures and posting them all over the place online. -
I'm at work and can't listen to the songs on their Myspace page, but please let them not be awful, since I'll be seeing them three nights in a row.

I've been reading bits and pieces of that tour diary for months and am still not done with it. It's great. It makes me wish he'd keep a blog on his website, but I don't think he ever sits still long enough to do that. I first discovered Nels via Wilco but have been working on his back catalogue since last summer. I'm through the Singers and the Geraldine Fibbers, as well as that amazing Scarnella album and a few of his albums with the Trio. His work with Watt will be my next adventure, I think. -
I had to choose between traveling to see Feist or the Nels Cline Singers in a few weeks, and Nels won. I'm hoping to get to see her at some point, though, because I really love The Reminder. How was the Pageant? I'm coming down for the Wilco shows next month.
