  1. If the St. Louis shows don't completely wipe me out, there's a chance I may stop to see them in Columbus on my way home. That's about the halfway point between here and there, and I'd really like to see them. Tallhassee's music scene has gotten so much better since I lived there. I had a great time while I was there, but I think I'd enjoy it even more now.
  2. disc 1 And I have to say, I'm amazed by how good the sound is when I plug a pair of headphones into the shitty little speakers for my office computer. I can rock out and almost forget I'm on campus. Almost...
  3. 4 minutes per paper. That would top even my record Considering how much Jeff hates the lyrics to I Thought I Held You, I can't imagine it will get played too often, probably only in any future "play the whole catalogue" situations. There are just too many other songs the band likes and could play instead. If I remember correctly, the Residency version of Leave Me (Like You Found Me) was the only time it was ever played. I hope that one gets played again, though, because I thought it sounded great live.
  4. Funny--that's what I'm half-heartedly doing, too
  5. I bought it right before I moved last fall, and I only listened to parts of it then before misplacing it in the move. It was a pleasant surprise to find it mixed in with some other CDs the other day. I'm thoroughly enjoying her reinterpretation of a classic Willie Nelson album. I was skeptical about it at first, but it's really quite lovely.
  6. Damn. You beat me to posting this link. I could take on 26. Here's the story.
  7. I think it's a presale via Ticketmaster. I'll let you know if I come across a password.
  8. He probably borrowed them from Nels! I have a new admiration for Pat and his commanding stage presence after seeing the band in February. I'd never really been close enough to see a whole lot before, but the whole night, I kept not knowing where to look because there seemed to be so much to see. I was on Nels's side, but every time I looked over at Pat, he was rocking out. That guitar duel between the two of them on Hoodoo Voodoo was about the coolest thing I've ever seen live.
  9. I second what others have said about not bringing every single thing you own. You'll be amazed how much stuff you accumulate over the average school year, so the less you take, the more room you'll have to expand as the school year goes on. Shower shoes are a must. Community bathrooms get pretty gross sometimes. Bringing all of your own bedding will make it feel more like home, but make sure to double check whether your school buys extra long mattresses, which most schools do. Rather than dishes, I bought Rubbermaid containers, since they could double as food storage. I often used to sneak
  10. I think if nothing else it will get us in before people who bought tickets in the general sale. At the show in Upper Darby I went to back in February, there was some sort of meet and greet after the show, and the buzz was that it was for people selected from the fan club. I don't know how true that was, but it would be cool to have a shot at something like that.
  11. That works great for me, since I teach from 8 to 10:50 on Wednesdays. That will give me just enough time to get across campus and back to my office in time. And I'll remember my login this time! I'm not as worried about the presale this time, since I'll be near a computer on Friday, but it would still be nice to have fan club tickets all three nights.
  12. I think the official lineup for Lollapalooza is supposed to be announced next week. Maybe they're waiting for that? I'm still hoping they'll add a few more shows between the Charleston make-up date and that festival in San Francisco.
  13. Lawrence is a little too far out of the way for me to make it part of Wilcorama 2008. I'll stick to my original 14 hour drive as planned
  14. There were a lot of people trying to find tickets outside the theater on Saturday, and I didn't see anyone selling. Stroudsburg is sort of in the middle of nowhere, so I can't imagine there's a huge amount of local interest in the show, but I'm sure a lot of people will be coming in for it. You never know--check craigslist and ebay. Somebody might be trying to get rid of a ticket at the last minute. Good luck.
  15. Presale for the Saturday show is Wednesday, and the regular sale starts Friday. I signed up for the Pageant's newsletter in the hopes that I'll get information about a presale if they have one on Thursday. Venus, I just realized I never responded to your last PM.
  16. I hope it's somebody good, since I'll be hearing him/her/them two (hopefully three) nights in a row. I was hoping Carla Bozulich's group Evangelista might open, since they're touring now and have a new album out (which, incidentally, is amazing), but they'll be in Europe during that time.
  17. I enjoyed Ratdog last night. I was a little iffy about going since it's been a few years since I've really been into the Dead, but they didn't disappoint. It was a much different lineup from the last time I saw them, back in 2000, I believe, but they were much better. They opened with a jam that led into Bertha, and that alone was worth the price of admission for me. I was in the center of the fifteenth row, so I had a really great view, and they played for a lot longer than I was expecting them to. During the second set, there were a lot of sloppy drunk people in front of me who were more in
  18. There are a few pictures over there that I'd love to use as wallpapers, but I've never been able to figure out how to get them. Does anybody know how to do that?
  19. I've been on the fence about Counting Crows for a long time. I loved August and Everything After (and still do) and enjoyed them when I saw them on the Recovering the Satellites tour. Nothing of theirs has really wowed me since that first album, though. They're so inconsistent. I loved a few of the songs on both This Desert Life and Hard Candy (Mrs. Potter's Lullaby and Up All Night in particular), but there were some I really strongly disliked, too (like that awful cover of Big Yellow Taxi). From what I've heard of the new album via the iTunes preview, it's not something I think I'd enjoy, th
  20. Does anyone have the 4 CD box set rerelease of Bitches Brew? I've decided I want to get it, and I'm wondering if the booklet and packaging are nice enough to make it worth buying the hard copy, or if I should save $15 and pick it up on iTunes (where--you've got to love it--it's sold as B*****s Brew). If anyone is interested in jazz and literature, I recommend the journal Brilliant Corners. A former professor of mine is the founding editor, and he's the one who's taught me most everything I know about jazz. It's a great journal.
  21. Chicago area folks, I received a voucher via email a little while ago that can get 2 people in for free to his show tomorrow night at the Metro (18 and over). I'd be glad to forward it to somebody who can actually use it. I can't quite figure out why I got it--my only guess is that it must be the same promoter as the Nels Cline Singers show I'm coming out for in June. I'll pass it on to the first person who PMs me with their email address.
  22. I'm off to see Ratdog in Syracuse Saturday night. I haven't seen them since the spring of 2000, at the height of my Deadhead phase, so I'm interested to see how they've changed, and how my perspective on them will have changed.
