Hey, I am not even bringing up those issues because they have been beaten to death on the Wisconsin thread. This is simply the Ryan ideas for privitizing government insurance programs and Social Security. Clearly clearly clearly there needs to be a real conversation about thsee issues (before ikol grabs this by the throat and tells us again these programs aren't sustainable....) and some long term planning needs to be done to make sure we can sustain them. But robbing the pension plans we paid into has been a problem for a couple decades and now we are up shits creek. And of course publicall

I didn't even mention some that were clearly nuts. I have been at Wilco crowds where those around me kept watch on certain people because they looked like they could be dangerous. There have been plenty of "space invaders" at Wilco shows as well. Rock audiences foster this kind of behaviour and some folks think it is perfectly okay to go crazy at a show and have no regard for the comfort or safety of their fellow concert goers. This has been a theme here as long as I have been on the board. LouieB

Maybe you can post this in the Chicago thread? LouieB

I heard a Pogues song in some car commercial this morning. LouieB

Hey all your youngesters, good luck with your privately funded medicare plans you will get when you are old and infirmed. It should be a ton of fun for you. Oh yea, also your Social Security that you invested in the stock market. That will be good too. Glad I am in the over 55 year group. All these right wing ideas MAY solve the deficit (on the backs of the poor, infirmed, disabled, old, etc.) so all us commies could be wrong. But then again I know you will all end up healthy multi-milionairs and won't have to care. (Nice charts by the way....) LouieB

yea but I had them all of them already, so it did me no good. LouieB

Music Direct was selling new Wilco albums for $15 at the CHIRP record sale. I think even the new vinyl market is going to see a slow reduction in price as the market gets saturated. Clearly there is not the market for KT that was anticipated. LouieB

Wow, scary. I think we should give more tax breaks to rich people, yea, that will do it. LouieB

That does look like a good book!!! And there have been numerous proposals for that site since the 1980s, so maybe one day they will come to fruition. It could be a great place for a land based casino (not my favorite) and I suppose some other mixed use would be good. But transportation to that part of the city is tough. I have never actually taken the South Shore to South Bend (maybe soon for the hell of it), but the train doesn't go all that near the site. Needless to say, the construction of an el spur would be the best, but I doubt that will happen any time soon. You are one of the f

wow, I can't imagine how ugly this will get in the next 19 months. LouieB "I wanta grow up to be a politician...."

Thanks for posting this. this raises my opinion of DM considerably, plus the line-up is worthy of support even if you split before he and his alleged frat boy fans come on. Lollapalooza is on the lakefront and alot of the other fests, including Pfork are not that far from where the majority of the hipster/hippies of Chicago live. But this site is a pretty good haul from all of that and certainly in areas were are in need of some economic development. If you see the Chicago stuff to do thread I have often suggested a trip down this way to see the "real" Chicago. The southeast side looks

the Loop and downtown are basically the same thing; unless you are including the Gold Coast as downtown, which it isn't. LouieB

For sure....That was a new low. LouieB

If Wilco supports anyone it will be Obama, since they just got done supporting Rahm Emanuel for Mayor of Chicago. Ron Paul and Dennis Kusinich in a picture together is more than I get get my brain around on a Monday morning. To those who think Obama is a failed president....all presidents fail. Tell me one in recent memory that was a smashing success. LouieB

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
On not staying downtown. There are other places. Try the area around Midway Airport. Not too exciting, but there are lots of options and rates will be lower than downtown. It is also a fairly short el ride into downtown from Midway. There are hotels in the Skokie area, which is also pretty unthrilling, but the shopping is good. Evanston has hotels and is on the el line, but tend to be expensive. The Margaretta Inn is okay and there are B&Bs there. The south suburbs also have clusters of hotels. I don't know which ones specifically and they are pretty far away. (Oaklawn, O -
it is best to ask questions in the established thread so that new answers can be added and so that you can give feedback on those suggestions. Those of us who live here don't stay in hotels or B&Bs, os hearing about your experiences are helpful to others on a long term basis. Also folks do find new tourist type stuff to do over time. We don't necessarily take all the tours or go to all the tourist spots so we don't know how they look to out of towners. edit-see the other thread for ideas, which others need to chime in on. Thanks. Justin Townes Earle will be playing at a public library

Let's hope so. Whatever it is I plan to buy it. On Bloodshot records I do believe. Yes, that's what their website says....it is the B side actually. I wonder what Bruce gets from this? LouieB -
Sure am. Glad someone will be there.... LouieB

It looks like they at least have an African-American fan or two. Considering I have been burned, pushed, leaned up against, yelled at by drunks, doused with water, had to listen to people talk through shows, and encountered plenty of obnoxious fans at Wilco shows, I am not sure Wilco's audience is all that much better in some respects. Just the music is better. LouieB

Hey everyone is entitled to like whom they like. i am sure he puts on a fine show, lots of commercial artists do. Had his tour bus not unloaded it's waste on a bunch of tourists here, I wouldn't give a rats ass about the guy. If he wants to pump some money into the local economy, heck it isn't any different than any other fest (we have lots), he is welcome to do it. How are his fans more obnoxious than lots of other band's fans? LouieB

Bumping this! Come on all you Chicago vinyl fanatics....come out for this too. It is for a good cause and you can make more money before Record Store Day!! LouieB

Strangely I sort of thought the same thing... LouieB

The most intriguing part of this fest is the location; the former Southworks on the now depressed southeast side. For that alone I would go, but certainly not for Dave Mathews himself. LouieB

I sure agree with this. No band lasts forever no matter how great the chemistry, so this is the time to kick it into high gear. Since Glenn is now a father of two small children, the road may eventually wear him out. I hope not, but it is alot to ask for him to hit the road indefinitely. LouieB

Yoko Ono barely tours or records. Even if Nels did work with her it would take barely any time. I saw Yoko at Pitchfork a few years back. She was genuinely fun to see. Then again the excitment of actually seeing her overshadowed any of the lack of substance in her performance. It should also be noted that the place was packed when she started and the park emptied out during her performance so that by the end only about 1/3 or 1/4 of the audience was left. LouieB
