  1. Tine to plug the GloNo/Whiskey Bender vids from a few years ago. Check them out here. Not only were they fun to participate in, the band was super nice. There is a two part short on both bands and also a great solo set from Will. You will need to scroll and find them on this page. LouieB
  2. Yup..see my earlier post. Hence also the Yardbirds. Good call on all the do-wop groups that had bird names. What a simpler time. LouieB
  3. Wow, some obscure stuff. I forgot Pelican too. How about the obvious Counting Crows and Black Crowes. Also the jazz band Black Birds. Or Birdsongs of the Mezosoic??
  4. So far Jesus Lizard is running away with it, as it should. LouieB
  5. I was going to say the Yardbirds (plus Charlie "Yardbird" Parker). Amd how about the Wrens? LouieB
  6. That must have been a crazy time. I remember seeing the footage long ago, but I wonder what they did when they weren't in the studio. LouieB
  7. You are kind of asking us backwards. What have you learned in your research and what artists and records are you interested in. Hundreds (maybe thousands) of recordings were made at this studio, so nailing it down is a bit difficult. There were many southern soul albums made there as well as rock records too. See here I guess and keep going. LouieB

    Goodbye Wilco

Hey now!! just for the record (since plenty of folks here know me in real life) I do stand for Wilco when I am on the floor. I have also stood at concerts with seats. For me, you have to go with the flow on this. If you are the only one standing when everyone else is sitting, folks should sit down. If everyone else is standing and you are complaining, you got no reason to complain. I have seen Jeff get people on their feet who were sitting down at shows. And actually I have and I do like rocking to Wilco although the times I have sat have been okay too. LouieB

    Goodbye Wilco

And frankly at this point not all of Wilco's music is stand up and rock kind of material anyway. LouieB

    Goodbye Wilco

Okay fine, except more and more Wilco fans are getting tired and old. It would be nice if everyone got on their feet for shows, but sometimes it just doesn't work like that, so being a jerk and standing just because you want to when others don't isn't really nice either. Dance in your seat or walk to the back and stand there if you are bugging folks. LouieB
  11. A few weeks on and RSD is now a distant memory, but I went to the Jazz Record Mart and bought two copies of the Syd Barrett LP. There were several other LPs still available including a bunch of the Vanguard reissues and a Vanguard comp of pscychadelic bands. They also had a bunch of the 45s by the cash register including Big Star and Hendrix and a bunch of other stuff. (Obviously NO Big Star LPs though...) Anyway just in case someone is still hankering after some RSD fetishes, you can still get them at the JRM in Chicago. LouieB
  12. T-Bone Burnett must never stop working. No wonder Sam Phillips dumped him (or was it the other way around?} LouieB
  13. Wow, brutal!! Going to see these guys for a second time at Pitchfork. I assume they will be more self assured this time than last. LouieB
  14. I understand the burial at sea, but it seems a bit premature. Parading a dead body around really is pretty provocative so I guess it is better not to do that. I suppose this means that there will forever be a wide range of conspiricy theories, just like Hilter not being killed at the end of WWII, how the moon landing was faked and a whole bunch of other stuff. I guess I want to believe this is real, because if it isn't, it sure is alot of bullshit just to bring Barack's poll numbers up. I would rather think they got the motherfucker and we are done with this, but that is just me. Lo
  15. Congrats to the US armed forces. Finally this is over. LouieB
  16. Nice, informative and really long article in the NY Times today. LouieB Less Fleet, but More Mature, FoxesBy WILL HERMES IT was the autumn of Robin Pecknold’s discontent. Last October Mr. Pecknold, the singer-songwriter — hair pulled into a ponytail and reddish-brown beard roaming free — was nibbling an asparagus roll at a sushi joint on Ninth Avenue in Manhattan, fretting over what he’d thought was a finished album by his band, Fleet Foxes. He and the producer Phil Ek had flown to New York from their home base in Seattle to do final mixing at Sear Sound, a boutique studio on West 48t
  17. Why? Under the right circumstances some airing out of the band's chops could be really great. In fact proggy or not, I hope they do air it out really good. I think the band deserves this attention. LouieB
  18. Paul..no real need for me to get one of these for you. I suspect there will be lots of them floating around since they are officially released sometime in May (the 11th maybe) and frankly I doubt interest is going to be that high for them. By the time it is released this gig and the gigs at SXSW are going to be distant memories. I enjoyed the show alot, but I did have mixed feelings about it. Clearly this is not an ongoing side project for any of these guys except maybe Nicholas Tremulous, who I find to be one of the most jive motherfuckers this side of Dr. John. 19. Good stuff if you like the Chamber Strings. Interesting notes too. LouieB
  20. If the crowd last night was any indication, there are few folks interested in this one off project with John Stirrat on bass, Nick Termulous on guitar and vocals, Rick Rizzo on guitar and vocals, Bun E Carlos on drums and Mark Greenberg on keyboards. This is mostly a covers band which may never play again, but they do have a 10 inch EP coming out in a couple weeks which was available at the show. It was a fun, if under attended show last night at the Double Door. Jon Langford and Skull Orchard opened with a great and funny set. So if you obsessive about Wilco side projects I am sure you
  21. Well as is clear now there aren't TOO many Chamber Strings fans here, but just in case there are..... I ran into Kevin Junior last night at the Candy Golde show and bought a copy of the album mentioned here. It is NOT available in the US unless you contact Kevin directly. He said he is willing to have people get in touch with him so if you want a copy (and I got one...) you can email him at chamberstring@hotmail.com. That is chamberstring without an "s" and get in touch with the guy and get one. I guess the liner notes are pretty cool too. Haven't listened to it yet, but I am sure it
  22. And he got to play Buddy in the movie about Richie Valens. Cosmic. LoiueB
  23. It looks like 30 songs picked out of a hat. LouieB
