Lambchop, Bonnie "Prince" Billy or M Ward?
LouieB replied to stagerug's topic in Someone Else's Song
M. Ward is pretty good. Prince Billy is pretty hip and the Vic Chestnut with Lampchop is worth checking out... LouieB -
Time for some Chicago dates NOT associated with Lollapalooza.... LouieB

Okay, bad suggestion on my part...well the original poster can then contact me and I will buy the DVD for him (if I can watch it first....just kidding...) LouieB

Actually it is pretty shocking that in this day and age the communication with the distributers is so bad. I mean really; you would think this kind of merch would be exactly the kind of thing that would be sold in large amounts during an event like this. I just don't get it. Same as with the disorganization on the Wilco LPs. LouieB

WDBX on Thursday nights at 10-12 PM. You can stream it.....The Devil's Radio There is alot to do down there and simply driving around is nice. Strange how this thread turned into a discussion of Carbondale, IL, of all places... LouieB

I could live down there periodically, but yea, not permanently I suppose...maybe if I get older still...my daughter has the new BF going there and the radio show. We shall see how long she lasts...meanwhile P-Mac has more inventory and is more like a regular store than Plaza, which seems more of a hippie joint. Go way around Wrigley and come to Lauries. But then again no matter where you go the fans will be nuts. LouieB

If it has whiskey in it, it must be Shane McGowen.... LouieB

I think the secret weapon was youth, chemistry and unique sound (not to mention the 60s....). Songs for Drella is an excellent album with the John and Lou sharing the spotlight. LouieB

I had not been there before either. I find both these stores to be just okay, but I do like patronizing any indie stores I can. They had a pretty good used CD selection and some LPs. Plaza is more bare bones. You are right about the cost of living. I would be a freakin millionaire down there...and it is nice. Tweedy's Gurl has decided to stay after graduation for awhile. I bought this on CD awhile back and frankly it ain't really worth it on LP. You can get an armload of her old LPs for what it will cost for this new one I would guess. LouieB

Had some this morning with maple syrup and blueberry preserves. LouieB

Figures......time for a road trip to the wild and wooly north side..... As long as we are promoting stuff we really have not much to do with...how about the CHIRP record fair which also features vinyl records and is the same weekend as record store day.... LouieB
-
I have been there, but this time I went to the west side to P Mac instead. Considering Carbondale is a pretty dinky town, it is pretty amazing that they have two indie stores, both of which I am sure are always on the verge of going out of business. LouieB
-
Actually they are: IL ALGONQUIN RECORDS Des Plaines, IL Any frequency Monticello, IL Beverly Records Chicago, IL Chicago Digital Oak Park, IL Co-Op Records Moline, IL Co-op Records East Peoria, IL Co-Op Records Pekin Pekin, IL * CYKLOPX Forest Park, IL Dave's Records chicago, il DEADWAX chicago, IL dr wax chicago, IL Dusty Groove America Chicago, IL Exile on Main St. Champaign, IL Gramaphone Records Chicago, Il Groovin High, Inc Chicago, IL Hard Boiled Records CHICAGO, IL Jazz Record Mart Chicago, IL Kiss The Sky Geneva, IL La

That sucks......which one? I even stopped in a record store in Carbondale that was participating and giving away coupons for discounts. If you need the DVD, Laurie's will have it, since they have close Wilco ties. Its good to see there are still so many indie stores in Illinois, even in smaller towns. LouieB
-
My point exactly......heck contact Laurie's Planet of Sound in Chicago. All the clerks are nice and would probably be happy to hook you up and charge you the postage, etc. If all you want is the DVD, it will be readily available when it is available and any record store in any city with any sense will ship you a copy. LouieB

You must be desperate....see my other posting... LouieB

Just a suggestion, but depending on what you want you may want to contact an indie record store and ask yourself. I don't know for sure, but I bet one would help you out; even one in a far flung city. There are plenty of record stores that are mentioned here all the time and if you call or email they can probably get you what you want without you having to beg a VCer. What are you looking for anyway? LouieB

Haven't voted yet.....but.... I have to say that despite some dreadful recent albums, Lou's Berlin Live is a nice piece of work. LouieB

For all those vinyl fans in Chicago, check out the CHIRP record fair. I am helping one of the dealers do some selling. In fact we priced up some stuff last night and I walked away with a few things from his inventory. Always a good time at the CHIRP fair and maybe someday we will get an indie/community radio station, who knows. Look for me.... LouieB

My point exactly on the indie companies...they never completely stopped putting out LPs. Most other LP production is done by those licensing material. Some major labels still put some out (Columbia/Sony), but not the rest. We aren't even talking about 45s which are nearly exclusively indie/punk rock oriented, except during record store day. As far as a format that is fun, not that high quatlity and used to be huge, the format is also pretty dead. 78s are dead as a doornail. There may be someone who put one out as a lark, but most turntables don't even play them. A one off hardly qualifies

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Two hours to get a beer...yikes..... I always liked the Hopleaf, but it has gotten entirely too popular. Good place to drink in the afternoon. LouieB
