  1. I passed on critiqueing the actual filming. I don't think it was too bad all in all, since capturing a band in a concert is tough (I have been involved in this kind of thing a few times....), so really I won't go there. I am going to help shoot a video of the Bottle Rockets in a couple weeks...with Whiskey Bender productions. I can't wait. Well shabba, there is plenty of concert footage, but a focused narrative would have been okay, but with the way it is cut, it comes out as more pretentious than not. This is a good issue but as I pointed out the band didn't really play small towns or a
  2. This was certainly part of the conversation prior to the day. It is a travisty that these products are produced to encourage resale on the collectables market rather than give record stores the ability to sell to the max over the days and weeks after the sale and sate every music fan. But hey, some of these records are simply old material repackaged anyway. The unique cuts will find their way into the digital market that this event is supposed to fight. Look for them on your favorite free download site in the near future. LouieB
  3. Thanks.....I really have not spent any time finding out anything about the tour itself. Really to me that is not even important. They can present things in any order they want and still make a good film. The casual viewer won't know or care about these details. But since you mention it, ending a film at Cains rather than the 930 would have been spectacular and as I said, an entire film at Cain's would have been fantastic. (Filming at the Ryman, while clearly an historic and cinematic spot, has been done recently in Prairie Wind, an amazing film as far as I am concerned.) What better place
  4. Like millions (well maybe thousands) of Wilco fans, I watched the DVD last night. I had seen it at the Music Box a few weeks back so I knew what to expect. I have a few things to say also and the thing about the Tulsa/Nashville thing is something I couldn't know about, but I have some other issues with the movie. First some of backpedaling before I wade into some shit....I know the band reads stuff here and maybe the film makers do too, I don't know. I am an old fan of Wilco and have talked to all the band members on one occasion or another over the years. They are all massively tale
  5. Sitting here looking at my merch and thinking...glad that's over......although I wish I had bought a couple more things.....so it goes. LouieB
  6. Wilco DVD Dylan Both Sonic Youth Jesus Lizard singles Numero Group Comp Free REcord store day LP and a bunch of free record store day CDs. Wish I had seen the Andrew Bird...oh well. I don't believe the Wilco LPs were in, but I can get them later. LouieB
  7. It looks like bands are running out of cool names..... LouieB
  8. It appears that it is half a rescue. The dog was returned to the breeder, so while it was not dropped off at a shelter it is not directly from the breeder. Slack is fine. A nice shelter dog would have been nice, but since they were looking for a particular pure bred, it wasn't going to happen so easily. (People will use any excuse to criticize the Obamas that's for sure.....) LouieB
  9. It was not clear that the Obama administration was actually going to release this stuff and I am honestly not sure if this is all that the leftish press has been complaining about for a few months not being released (see Democracy Now....), but I do think this is a significant move on Obama's part. Now if he can just do away with don't ask don't tell, more people will be happy with him, rather than less. I listen to a fair amount of talk radio, right, left, and center, because I am in the car alot, and frankly when you do listen to the talking heads (even if you can't see them) you get
  10. RCO..easy mistake to make, I almost said RCA when writing this the other day...if you can find a copy of that studio album it is worth your time. Not sure which other one you listened to, but the other two I have are not as good. LouieB
  11. Once again...2/3 of Chicago call Chicago home at present. Since the lead singer/songwriter lives here I would think that makes them a Chicago band. At this point....whatever... LouieB
  12. Even without having a serious illness, Helm is 68 and can't sing all night long anymore. Hopefully he brings a load of great folks to back him up. His other records are good, particulary his first solo record with the RCO All Stars which includes Dr. John, Paul Butterfield, Duck Dunn, Booker T, Steve Croppper and a nice horn session. His second, also features Steve Cropper and Berry Beckett. American Son is more Nashville oriented with the cream of the session guys, including Buddy Emmons, Kenny Buttrey, Pig Hargus. I find this one the least interesting. All of them I found used over the
  13. I saw Levon and Rick Danko play drunk to a few people several years back.... I would guess Levon gets alots of vocal back-up help from his band (his daughters??) rather than shouldering the entire thing. I would hope so anyway. It would be a shame if he lost his voice again through over use. LouieB
  14. Levon is also going out on tour, something I assume he has not done in a very long time. He is playing Chicago in June and tickets are on sale soon. For more specifics....you know... LouieB
  15. Quirky, but mostly in a good way (although sometimes not...) LouieB
  16. Actually it was a stinker on both their parts....the production sucks and so do most of the songs...Phil was a violent mofo from a long way back and certainly a tyrant when not violent.... LouieB

    Wilco Vinyl

Sub Pop is more or less indie.....as I have said, they have continued to do right by vinyl buyers, even when the rest of the biz has not. LouieB
  18. How about at 20 years?? it seems like only yesterday the thing came out, but then again the nostalgia cycles are pretty short these days. LouieB

    Wilco Vinyl

Well your logic works okay too, IF you charge 40 bucks a shot. Yikes. I have seen that kind of price for albums, but puleeze......is that what we have to look forward to?? I remember when albums were 4 or 5 bucks a piece. Now admittedly that was a long time ago and money was worth alot more, but essentially this is 100 year old technology we are talking about here. I guess if the market will bear it, then sell it. (They just can't sell it to to me, that's all...) And at $40 a shot the supply and demand curve is going to give out at some point, except to folks who can afford a many thous
  20. His earlier records are pretty good too. Mostly on vinyl and maybe out of print, but I am sure they can be found. Robbie's first two albums are actually quite good. LouieB
  21. Now he has long straight hair. Is any of this real? How come so many rock stars never go bald?? LouieB
  22. I posted more of my thoughts on the Wilco vinyl thread. I can't wait for part two. I discovered I keep using the term "let's be honest" way to often, but the fact remains, that the record companies barely care about consumers. I was ripped on this by someone, but it is true; the only record companies that kept active vinyl catalogues during the thin years were the larger indie labels. Then some folks got the idea that it would be fun to reissue old and obscure titles on on LP (Sundazed, 4 guys with Beards, etc.) and that was somewhat fun, but I wonder how profitable. No one makes nearly

    Wilco Vinyl

Let's be honest.....the record companies aren't making all that much money on vinyl records. There aren't that many pressing plants and it costs more than CDs to produce LP. They are only humoring everyone doing this. As soon as the demand lessens, alot of the companies will stop producing them. Right now this is hot, but as we all know, hot only lasts so long. The Wilco reissues are selling for alot of money and the demand is there. There was just enough demand for UT for us to get the expanded CDs. Maybe Sony will figure out the Wilco/Son Volt fans can help them make some money on UT,
  24. Are these remasters gong to be on vinyl. I don't care how good or bad they used to sound in the bad old days...I am glad I grew up listening to the vinyl albums that we had. Oh yea, I still do.... LouieB
  25. See my PM....I volunteer... Let's be honest, if indie stores are counting on one day to keep them from going out of business (really increasing business..) then they need to guarantee that the special productsadvertized need to be there and MAYBE need to be there for a few weeks after to mop up the good feelings. Every day should be record day if you are in the business. Helping people get the products that they desire (particularly after raising people's expectations) should be their job. When you see the WB on some of the PR, it makes you wonder exactly what this event is about. LouieB
