  1. Really?? Wow, okay....I am somewhat speechless. Putting any of the last three albums against the great ones of the 60s and 70s seems .....well just glad you like him. LouieB
  2. Little GTO, you're really lookin' fine Three deuces and a four-speed and a 389 Listen to her tachin' up now, listen to her why-ee-eye-ine C'mon and turn it on, wind it up, blow it out GTO How many songs, how many movies, how many great memories...... LouieB
  3. Anvil! (the movie) is playing in Chicago this week, but unfortunately I doubt I can make it. I guess I will have to see it on DVD someday. LouieB
  4. It is that growl in his voice that is Muddy. Needless to say there are worse things than trying to imitate Muddy. TOOM mind was needless to say a huge breakthrough for Dylan. I think he has basically been doing the same sort of thing ever since, which considering the doldrums he was in could be worse. It is ironic that Dylan in his late years wants to be a blues singer (rather than a folk or rock singer...) since that was sort of his original MO. Personally I like it when he does break out of the blues to sing something slightly different and I thought conceptually Modern Times was inter
  5. Actually despite my somewhat hippie background and liking the Dead well enough I never attended a Dead concert; saw Jerry Garcia once play a double bill with Frank Zappa. I suppose I should have gone, but I was just too much into the blues, folk, and jazz to bother. (Not that I didn't catch plenty of rock acts over the years however....who the fuck knows why I didn't but I didn't.) LouieB
  6. Green packaging..no petrochemicals.... LouieB
  7. Exactly....that was a very good song....breaking out of the mold a bit. LouieB
  8. Time to get your stuff out, but sadly the PM program is down so I lost your address. Hopefully you sent me the mailer before it disappeared. LouieB
  9. I suppose if there is anything disappointing about Dylan's last 20 years it is that he rarely stops singing blues in order to do a ballad or two. Nothing wrong with the blues ya understand, but he used to write great ballads. LouieB
  10. Nah, not really old, just too old to be out groovin one night and trying to work the next....(need to be sent back for re-grooving.....) Let's plan this for sometime soon however. LouieB
  11. Just listening to it now on the link you posted. Seems impossible to do either really. (He is sounding a bit like Muddy Waters on this third song....) LouieB
  12. Sounds like the same old same old from Bobby D.....throw up a blues riff and sing some words to it. LouieB
  13. I thought this article from the Trib by Greg Kot might be of interest here... LouieB
  14. This sounds like a great beginning to a controversial song..... LouieB
  15. A silly Cole Porter compilation from CBS special products that I got for 50 cents (three LPs) and it is actually a fun listen. LouieB
  16. I listened to "Never Had Nobody Like You" on a Merge compilation and I gotta say (as usual) it is a shame this guy doesn't get some radio airplay. Great, catchy song. LouieB
  17. Short of being in a band, why would you want a nudie suit? Do you have a wedding to go to where you want to freak someone out, or are you planning to wear one to your own wedding? Meanwhile western shirts with horses, guns, and flowers are available at just about any western type store, which depending on where you live, you probably have one nearby. Check the phone book. Here in Chicago Alcalas has stuff like that as well as boots to go with it. Not sure that they have nudie suits, but you can get shirts, pants, jackets, ties, boots, belts with big old silver buckles and other accoutam
  18. They were a bit trippy. Certainly Disreali Gears had a bit of that going. The words were obscure and then Wheels of Fire had some fairly trippy aspects. I certainly agree that they are primarly a blues band in the initial concept. (Gawd I loved Cream. I heard a live version of BADGE on the radio the other day which is still one great song.) As far as psychadelic, Surrealistic Pillow is a fanatastic album that is certainly well within that category, but to me stands up years later as simply a great album. It has always been one of my all time faves... LouieB
  19. I am sure both the filmakers and the band has read everything about the movie, which is why I apologized for having some criticisms in advance. By now it should be obvious that the band reads stuff here and since the filmakers are big fans of the band they are on here too. Hi guys!!! Incidently we aren't all THAT annonymous. At one of the first Auditorium shows a number of us were standing around with Jeff and he named just about everyone correctly by screen name. The band does know many of of their fans and have followed threads here for years. Isn't that why we love the band? Because
  20. Nice review in The Reader this week. LouieB
  21. Sneeky Pete on "One Shot Deal" with Frank Zappa and the Mothers.... LouieB
  22. There are few things more personal than THAT!! LouieB
  23. I should go way more often. I have been and seen some interesting stuff, but it being smack dab in the middle of a work week is a disincentive. But PM me sometime when you are going and I will try and get my lame ass out of the house. This is the best instance of inprov music on the north side. I remember talking to Tim about these artists when he really had no idea about them. Luckily he took them up on this and now it has been going on for all these years. Kudos to the Hideout for figuring it out. Oh and yea...you ain't middle aged (or I am really fucking old..one of the two....
  24. The real question is...do you like Steely Dan? If so why would you miss this? If not, why would you bother?? LouieB
