  1. Clearly not a lot of vinyl trade in your area.... LouieB
  2. Hey Rob...welcome back and good luck with the gig. LouieB
  3. Actually radio used to be surprisingly democratic (in maybe a narrow band, which I know is a contratiction...). Growing up I heard all sorts of stuff particuarly after FM came in (yup I am that old....), but none the less AM covered a fairly wide range of types of music and rock stations played all kinds of stuff including soul, rock, folk, and country. Sure "the man" was in control, but many artists ultimately did get played (and over played). Those tunes are now called oldies and classic rock, but at least we all knew the songs. Now you can turn on a radio and hear some really homogenized
  4. Good to know they have gone back to this. LouieB
  5. And frankly this is a fairly attractive picture of a guy who was not so very good looking.... LouieB
  6. The one way people used to hear new music which is little used anymore was the radio. It is the demise of radio play that has isolated people and clearly (to me at least) it is not a good thing. LouieB
  7. yea, but now they are "vintage" shitty bands rather than contemporary shitty bands.... LouieB
  8. Since I don't buy new hi fi equipment, have the companies that do still produce amps put turntable inputs and ground wire connections back on their amps, since they so thoughtlessly took them off a few years back? LouieB
  9. He was a kid fer heaven sake.... At least he dug Hank Snow!! LouieB
  10. It took me a minute to figure out that was Glenn on the end...... It seems to me that they send review copies out WAY too early. I have yet to even hear this album and it is now completely disected, inspected, rejected, corrected...etc etc and it is doesn't even get released for over a month. Crazy. LouieB
  11. And if the singer wants you to sing along... LouieB
  12. Cool article... Now I am not even interested. Some day soon it will show up used I am sure. Since I popped for the new Steve Earle, I guess that is my new record purchase for the week... At least it is nice to know old Van can still sell some records. So many of the recent ones have been dogs.... LouieB
  13. Buy used records.......as often as possible. New records are generally overpriced, but then again used ones are too now. You can only spend on a hobby what you have. If you have lots of money get a kick ass stereo system, if not be happy with what you got. It's only rock and roll. LouieB
  14. You beat me to this..........I was about to say that they would have to be naked to sell, since for awhile there everyone was naked.... Just for the record I bought my first copy of Rolling Stone in 1969 for the Dylan interview......haven't bought a copy in decades.... LouieB
  15. This is why this info should be on the other thread..... Since I am not a big bus rider I had no idea there was an express down there. Ya learn something new every day. Taking the non-express buses is another thing entirely. It will get you there, but not nearly as quickly. LouieB
  16. From the early 60s: Tom Paxton Phil Ochs Eric Anderson Tim Hardin Ian Tyson (who everyone wanted to sound like...) LouieB
  17. Actually a vid of a woman being abused and running the guy over and splitting WOULD be worth something; it would show some real empowerment. I understand metaphor. She's a Jar is metaphorical (or some other device) since the person in the song is dreaming about killing someone, not actually killing them, and the guy in this video is sure looking like he is going to kill the woman or at least incapacitate her so he can have his way with her. Okay so I am not being "sensative" to the metaphor embedded in this video since it is not a documentary it is a fictional peice. But that doesn't keep
  18. I suppose if you really loved the single then this would be worth it. Isn't it enough to hear it on the radio once in awhile? I think there is a cover version or two that get played too. LouieB
  19. Good god man, going to a show and seeing and hearing without endless waiting around on your feet and then dealing with assholes talking, pushing up front, tall people in front of you, etc. etc. etc. etc?? What fun would that be??????????????????? Besides bands don't need respect anyway; they already have our money...!!!! LouieB
  20. This would be fun, but two things. You really can't get to Hyde Park on public transportation without alot of hassle. it is simply not on the el line from the northside. If they are up to it, you can catch the bus from downtown, but that is a long process, but doable. Second, save some cash for this excursion. The MofS&I is expensive, and a cab ride is significant. Bus routes are available online, but plan ahead. LouieB
