This is like a GenY Golden Smog.... LouieB

Really nice.....thanks. LouieB

You could well be correct about this, but Kevin also has a sort of checkered past himself. At a relatively recent show at the Hideout I bought a second copy of Month, since they were selling out all the old copies. Great album and you gotta wish these guys well. LouieB

Neither Drag City nor Thrill Jockey would handle this band, despite them being from Chicago; they simply don't fit the profile of either label. I have had the "what the fuck is up with the Chamber Strings" discussion with many people and I really think that the amount of competition in the music biz keeps them from succeeding. They had their time, which is getting to be nearly a decade ago, and making a full fledged comeback for any band is a tough go; particularly now when the old rules no longer apply. We see all sorts of bands fall off the radar and new bands replace the old ones. I

Things were looking bad for these guys for awhile, I mean post reunion, due to the fact that they couldn't find anyone interested in their demo, but allegedly they were in the studio, so maybe...maybe we will see a new album from them. We shall see. At least they play a gig once in awhile. LouieB

Surprised there is no Chicago show too....too bad. LouieB -
Sorry to panic you. I like Joe Cocker okay and don't really begrudge his sucess, but his career has not had much to recommend it for far more years than Koko, who even though she did pretty much the same sort of thing, continued to put out some pretty fine albums that were recognized into the recent decades, whereas Cocker is pretty much a product of the 60s and early 70s and you can sum up the majority of his career on about three albums (as mentioned in the thread....) It is true that few people listen to the blues anymore. It is sure surprising that even on the Stones board, a band who

Yes it does mean to practice, often in private, to learn chops. LouieB

Its kind of sad that a mention of Joe Cocker has gotten more responses than Koko, but then again that is pretty standard isn't it?? (Sorry to be so snide about this, but it is the truth....) LouieB

I have never understood this. The material on these early comps is really good; the guy still could sing in a regular voice back then and most of the songs are also very good. LouieB

Whatever the single is they are playing on XRT is pretty good. I can see it, but not rushing out to buy the album. LouieB

Since VC hasn't been up for a few days I think it is still appropriate to talk about Koko Taylor, Chicago blues woman who was such a force here for so long. LouieB

Who knew it took all these months to press out a few pieces of plastic?? These albums are really taking a long time getting out. LouieB

There used to be a great compilation of the Asylum stuff available, I would recommend that first and both Bone Music and Mule Variations are good examples of later Waits. For folks who have never heard the early years, those are both fine CDs. LouieB

I guess since the stream is so hit and miss I will be doing the same. Actually I plan to buy it at the Hideout. LouieB
-
Okay I am an idiot.....for some reason I can't even find the stream on WilcoWorld. I have looked all over the site too....consiquently have not yet listened to it. LouieB

This is an exellent suggestion. Most resale stores and some used record stores carry older hi fi equipment. I needed a CD player and picked one up a simple Nachamichi at Recycled in Springfield for $60, but I know they also have many turntables and tons of tuners, speakers etc. But many thrift stores get in unwanted turntables that can be rehabed and used successfully. Also the dude who fixes hi fi in your town will also have lots of older, referbished equipment for reasonable prices. LouieB

Yea, that is pretty cool. Hopefully it will go well. LouieB

Under the circumstances, a bit too subtle. thanks all. LouieB

Link?? for some reason I can't find it. Where is it? LouieB

I think I heard this same broadcast. It was the first time I heard anything from the new album. Some George Harrision mixed in with ? and the Mysterians.... LouieB

If you get the two solo albums on the one CD and a comprehensive collection of the Flying Burritto Brothers you should be set for a pretty long time. Then get Sweetheart of the Rodeo. LouieB

Poco never really broke up did they?? They have been playing pretty much off and on for years. They were one of my favorite bands in college. LouieB

This is a very sad day in Wilcoworld. Jay's contributions to Wilco were huge and his influence on the band will be felt for as long as the songs her helped write and arrange are played. Rest in Peace Jay!! Truly sad. LouieB
