  1. The Aragon is certainly big, although a total dump with some of the worst sound ever (well maybe not worse that place in Milwaukee. It has the same issues, large high ceiling with round walls and plenty of echo. These hauls were built to house dance bands without amplification. LouieB
  2. One of my personal faves for sure. I think Steely Dan qualifies, I mean they have two constant members...that's as many as Wilco has. They still make albums, they still play gigs. LouieB
  3. We need more discussion here. Anyone coming in for Pitchfork?? Lollapooza?? The Hideout Block Party?? Just for the hell of it? What did you do? What do you recommend for rock tourists, etc. Meanwhile bring a jacket to Pitchfork this year (2009); looks like cool and maybe rainy weather. See you in the reoord tent. LouieB
  4. I have only heard a few of these (like the one in the deluxe set of the new album and a few CDs my brother in law made for me.), but the more I hear the more fake it sounds. The only thing I don't believe is #2. I would like to think Dylan knows about all the songs he plays, but listening to the show on baseball, they picked some really obscure stuff and some songs that weren't all that good. Even his comments on some musicians don't seem very spontaneous. But hey, it is fun enough to listen to. I mean even Howard Stern and other radio personalities have people write material for them.
  5. Having seen Rhett with both the 97s AND solo, be rest assured, his solo shows are great also. He really is fun playing by himself. Some of the material on his solo albums isn't so great, but as a solo artist, he is very good. He does a killer version of California Stars (yea the Wilco song) also. LouieB

    7/11 Lowell

I wished I was there too....I spent an absolutely incredible day in Lowell a few years back visiting the Kerouac sites. I took lots of pictures and spent a few quality minutes at Jack's grave. I must say having been to two other shows in Mass, I missed not going. LouieB

    7/11 Lowell

Well I was just fucking around about Connor. Actually I think he is getting better as he gets older and maybe less full of himself. I wasn't there, but an opener doing an encore is a bit presumptuous. (A couple years ago someone gave me shit here on VC because they had never seen an opening act do an encore, but occasionally they do.) Meanwhile, it really wasn't Oberst's responsibility to cut his set short; nor was it Wilco's place to tell him to cut it short, BUT it should have been the stage manager/house manager or some other person from the venue or local promoter to tell him to short
  8. Maybe this is an example of a writer not knowing the meaning of the word "former" and thinking it means since he is singing apart from them he is "formerly" the lead singer. I doubt the Old 97s will ever really break up. I think they all need the gig too much. LouieB

    7/11 Lowell

Wow, one more reason not to like the guy.....but it could have been that no one talked to him about a shorter set and he just went with the program. Sorry to hear this show was cut short. I would loved to have been there. Lowell is an interesting town. You guys in the northeast are getting some crappy weather this year, that's for sure. LouieB
  10. I think his releases are much like his radio show; someone else picks the songs and writes the script and he reads it. LouieB
  11. Thanks for this. Since I have GBT I really don't want to have to screw around with another version. I have some of this stuff on old LP boots and some cassettes from old boots. Ah those were the days.... LouieB
  12. I'm guessing a copy of the Archies does pretty well in this market.... LouieB
  13. I gotta say, the version of "I'm Not There" on the soundtrack album isn't any better than the one on my copy of the GBT. LouieB
  14. Until this material is officially released from the best possible source tape we will get different versions and different configurations. Stereo? I suppose there are source tapes that are stereo, but this material was recorded with a variety of number of microphones, depending on the day. Mostly they were just trying to pick up as much as possible I think. These days it is possible that someone has mixed whatever this down or out to sound better. The Dylan camp would do well to reissue these and make their own money on this, rather than leave the "official" release out there. Ther
  15. The stylus is just the sharp little point that hits the record. That's all that should need to be cleaned since as the needle (stylus) drags through the grooves it picks up some crap if there is dust in the groove. Not a big deal. With old records, the needle can pick up dust and debris pretty quickly, but with brand new records this should not happen. Remember, put your record away after each playing, because if the disk sits out it collects dust. During the vinyl years (the 1950s to 1980s) people had all kinds of contraptions to reduce dust and other particulates on records including bru
  16. You are right I think, but since I own the GBT and not the ATWR I have no real idea. LouieB
  17. I was going to make this snarky comment myself, but A-man beat me to it. If you really want to know don't ask us crusty old timers because we really do this stuff, because we don't care. You can also blow on the needle to get the crap off it, but really a small brush is the best idea. Everyone has different levels of compulsiveness about their record collections, but most of us with lots of older LPs simply aren't that compulsive. There are plenty of resources for how to deal with stereo equipment and LPs somewhere on the internet I am sure. Check with the audiophiles and then determine how
  18. Exactly. Getting a 180 gram album is no guarantee that it won't have some imperfections. Remember this is not all that precise, it is a piece of plastic with some grooves cut in it, which is manufactured by pressing some molten plastic in a die. One would hope that all record companies are being careful, but that has never been the case, not in the old days and not now, particularly when demand is up and the number of available pressers is limited. So while everyone extolls the virtues of vinyl sound, to those raised on digital there is going to be some noise at some point, unless you hav
  19. I continue to like the album alot and have some of the tunes stuck in my head. I wish three things however.... 1. More Nels 2. More Glenn 3 Less of Pat playing repetitive triplets. LouieB
  20. Sounds like this will be a fun album. As with all older recording artists when you don't know what else to do: 1. Sing duets with lots of other people. 2. Cover well known songs. I guess Rosanne is at that point in her career. LouieB
  21. Just play your album and enjoy it. Don't freak out. As far as being old, considering this is 100 year old technology I don't think there is anything new to be said about record maintenance. All LPs experience some wear over time and all pick up small dings and pops that are somewhat unavoidable. Don't sweat it too badly. Don't touch the grooves if you can help it and clean it as needed and it will play for a long time. LouieB
  22. You did the right thing....glad to hear best buy is selling turntables again. LouieB
  23. I like You and I, but what's with Feist? Was she readily available at the time or what? What is her connection to Wilco? LouieB
  24. = less of me at shows.... Is it possible for there to be more dumbasses at shows?? LouieB
  25. I listened to that song a million times, but haven't thought of it in years. LouieB
