This was a long time in coming. Maybe the Chamber Strings can get it together too. LouieB

Missed this. So is the threesome Ali, Seeger, and Paul? LouieB

The irony in this is that not only is this true, but rock and roll also put a serious damper on his career when his style of music went out of favor and he no longer charted hits. Also I had not realized until I read his obit in the Trib that he played here in Chicago with a country band on WJJD way back. RIP Les LouieB

Happy Birthday!!! A bit late... LouieB

See the what to do in Chicago thread for hotels, restaurants and other info. Hotel suggestions should be stuck up there so every one can benefit in the future. As you will notice there is no one entertainment district in Chicago. The Sox play on the southside and there are now more places to eat and hang out near the ball park. Check out Bridgeport and the area around McCormick Place for places to stay and eat also. Again see the what to do in Chicago thread. I talk about the southside quite a bit, more than most people care about. The near southside is actually quite nice, safer, histor

Very cool story. Thanks for that; I had never heard that story. I saw Libba Cotten at the Old Town School (when it was on Armitage) sometime in the late 1970s or early 80s. Cotten was well up in years and the crowd loved her. She played all her "hits" (all two of them) and a bunch more songs, all of which were fairly similar and then replayed the hits and literally would not get off stage. It was like this was her last show ever and she didn't want it to end. It was one of those wonderful, but slightly awkward moments. I was also lucky enough to see the New Lost City Ramblers at th

I don't know for sure about Cotten, but he did find Dock Boggs and a number of blues folks. It was the New Lost City Ramblers version of No Depression that Uncle Tupelo copped for their first record. LouieB

The No Depression listerv just announced Mike Seeger died at age 75. While Mike is certainly less famous than his half brother Pete, he certainly was important in folk and folklore circles, both for finding and promoting long lost folk artists and also for his band the New Lost City Ramblers which promoted older songs and song styles. Sad day. LouieB

I saw the trailer and it does look pretty good. Not entirely sure how it will become a feature length story, but what the heck. Anyone ever see the 12 tone opera of WTWTA? Crazy stuff. LouieB

What comes next for Wilco? (during the period between records)
LouieB replied to Livin' in New Orleans's topic in Just A Fan
Wilco will tour the world making tons of money for the band and everyone concerned selling recordings, mech, and tickets to shows. More power to them. LouieB -
Not to be disrespectful, but who are these bands? LouieB

(The Album) vs. American Central Dust
LouieB replied to Dean Moriarty's topic in Someone Else's Song
I think Jay needs some South Central Rain to clear away the American Central Dust..... LouieB -
thanks so so so much for the bump. Rosie and I worked really hard on the setlist. There will be one Wilco and one Uncle Tupelo song as well as lots of rock, gospel, blues, soul, and bluegrass. Please join us. thanks. LouieB

The Swimming Hour is more like the current Andrew Bird material, but I certainly enjoy the early stuff as well. LouieB

Sorry if I misled anyone on this, but Rosie will sometimes take requests on her regular show anyway. Since I am on the road I probably won't have an internet connection next week. WDBX is really low budget and clearly even the stream doesn't work well, so recording and archiving shows is out. I will be pissed if the stream is still off next week. I am hauling a box of LPs and CDs to Lake of the Ozarks. (We are currently at a hotel in Hannibal, MO.) Thanks for bumping this later in the week. I hope you can hear this, but you never know. LouieB

How about Shalom Chavarim?? Dona Dona Dona?? Other Jewish campfire favorites.... LouieB

Yes, that was fun. Very fun in fact. I talk about it all the time. Some of those props were at a show at the Museum of Science and Industry, which I didn't see. The show is actually next week, but I will be on the road and not online, so someone bump this sucker up. I hope the stream works, since WDBX is very low budget and sometimes this stuff doesn't work. We are going to play some really crazy stuff. I just recently listened to a couple of the Numero Group LPs, Gospel Funk and Letters from Dimona, both of which was pretty incredible, but not your standard gospel material. Will also be

Must be tired...for a minute I thought this thread was "favorite musicals". That would make a good thread I suppose, for something different. LouieB

Pixies' Doolittle 20th anniversary tour
LouieB replied to Three dollars and 63 cents's topic in Someone Else's Song
I guess we dodged the Wilco bullet on it though. You have to give the Pixies credit; playing the shit out of their back catalogue with no pretention of recording anyhting new and making big time money. Bravo Pixies...!!! LouieB -
Bumpty Bump.....see first post for update. Rosie and I are doing a show together and would appreciate some listeners. LouieB

I don't quite know how they are doing this. Many of the shows include free food and only a $5 entry fee. I guess this string of shows actually started in Pittsburgh maybe. I can't seem to keep track. LouieB

Peter Gabriel's vids from Go - Big Time and Sledgehammer. I also enjoy the PCP inspired Like A Rolling Stone, by the Rolling Stones. LouieB
