  1. Good to see the boys still getting around. Did you say hi to them? I am currently listening to.... LouieB
  2. Happy Birthday Bruce!! His birthday preceeds mine by slightly more than half a year. LouieB
  3. Greatest Ever?? Not sure but I sure like them alot. I have seen them a couple times and they are always great. They make great records too, all are good. The Neighborhood is one of the excellent lesser heard albums of theirs. (Can we talk about the Blasters now who are also one of the greatest American bands ever.) LouieB
  4. How were they? Meanwhile Greg Kot gave them three out of four stars in the Trib this AM. LouieB
  5. Best post of the day. I can just picture this.... LouieB
  6. I don't know...Get your Ya Yas is a great live album so I would guess the extras would be okay. LouieB
  7. The other side is .... Wilco never plays Chicago any more... LouieB
  8. This must be the other thread of "does Jeff Tweedy read this??" LouieB
  9. Not tongue and cheek....he sometimes does. But I am sure he doesn't spend alot of time doing so or worrying about what folks here have to say. LouieB
  10. that was sort of how I felt SEEING the Flaming Lips this summer..... Why couldn't these guys have stayed a cult band?? They were so much more fun like that. LouieB
  11. I think we were talking about this recently. Jimi didn't really play around all that much and I didn't see him. On his most recent album, Dave Alvin has a song about seeing him (not his best song however.) I was all of 20 when he died. I do remember that however. LouieB
  12. I remember it like yesterday....or do I?? LouieB

    Wilco Vinyl

Its all simple economics, supply and demand. As soon as the demand goes down or the supply goes up, prices will fall. As long as folks are willing to pay these prices, vinyl records will cost too much. Even used LPs now cost far more than ever before. LouieB
  14. I don't think that is it. Our childhoods were long ago. It is more about mortality instead. Each time someone who seems a contemporary goes, it brings on emotions regarding ones demise. PP&M stopped being imporatant a very long time ago. LouieB
  15. Putting tunes to old Guthrie lyrics is fair game for everyone. All artists are entitled to try their hand and it. As for who has sung Woody Guthrie songs longer?? Every contemporary songwriter has been singing them a shorter time than those who started singing them in the 40s 50s and 60s so really who cares..... (Still the best album of Guthrie songs is Country Joe McDonald's Thinkin of Woody....) LouieB
  16. THE Look of the 60s.....ultra straight long hair and bangs.... LouieB
  17. I have two Katrina and the Waves LPs. They are easy to find. Don't know what he is doing these days, but I imagine he can live on Walking on Sunshine forever. LouieB
  18. Considering so much less vinyl is being pressed, I would guess less care is part of it. It could also be that since there is the option to buy CDs which don't skip, they simply don't care. See my other posts, but older vinyl doesn't skip very often, even beat up and scratched LPs play straight through. I am not using a very sophisticated turntable either. I better get on the stick and listen to this Summerteeth. I bought a couple other new LPs last weekend at the Bloodshot event (Alejandro Escovedo's Man Under the Influence and Old 97s Wreck Your Life reissues. Hopefully these are oka
  19. It is hard to understand at this point in time how important these albums were. All lefty/folkies had them, which is why they are easy to find in resale stores among piles of other discarded albums. PP&M made tons of dough for Warner Brothers and helped promote the careers of dozens of songwriters including the aforementioned Bob Dylan and Tom Paxton. Not only did they sing at anti-war and civil rights events, they were on the radio with hit singles throughout the 60s. I have to admit that when their reunion specials were played adnauseum on PBS I stopped watching, but I did see the
  20. Very sad......grew up with all those albums. RIP Mary. LouieB
  21. Maybe Barack should get Kanye and Taylor Swift together for a beer at the White House. That would solve this whole thing.... LouieB
  22. A Kanye and Swift duet is in order I think. Fans of both could get their rocks off. LouieB
  23. Well yes, both men had early lives that included heavy substance abuse, but still....life is only so long. LouieB
