Uncut: Top 150 Albums of the 21st Century
LouieB replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
Isn't the 21st century just slightly less than one decade old? Just checking.... For the greatest hits of the first decade of the last century see these guys....how far we have come.... LouieB -
Yea, I do. Kid Leo in LA?? I think he should have gone to Ft. Wayne... LouieB

8.1 ain't bad. Does anyone know why this one is not on Thrill Jockey?? LouieB

Sweating to the oldies... LouieB

The Buzzard sucks??? Actually WXRT is a pale remnant of what it once was, with a relatively short play list of the same artists and songs. Admittedly compared to WMMS it seems great, but trust me, it ain't what it used to be. LouieB

There are some hotels in the UIC area, maybe closer to Ashland than Halsted. Someone should post this up in the Chicago thread for sure. The Taylor St. (little Italy) area has many nice restaurants of all price ranges. LouieB

Greg Leisz appreciation thread

He has done great work with Dave Alvin. I do believe he was in the Funky Kings way back when as well. LouieB -
I have listened to her album a couple times....it goes down smooth, but has very little to get me to come back to it. LouieB

Exactly....maybe even these guys should stopping trying so hard. LouieB

I guess they keep it up until they drop. Ticket prices for this were high at $25, which is generally more than younger bands charge, for the simple reason that buzz bands get larger crowds, attract a younger harder drinking group, and the club can take out the chairs and cram more people in. Considering they played about 90 minutes with one short encore, this was really a short show, far shorter than most younger bands play. And Paul really seemed to be struggling during the last few numbers to play guitar (he had a fabulous Gretch hollow body..!!) Frankly Rusty should go out on his own wi

FDR knew what he was talking about since this actually happened in many countries. LouieB

I suppose they still are around, but since Dave Alvin rarely plays with them, I don't think of them as the same gruop. They have not put out an album of new material since the mid-80s. His brother Phil is a hell of a singer though. LouieB

I never claimed to be an economist, since my class was back when I was a freshman and 8 AM, a horrid time for that kind of thing. You are correct that there are more used LPs than ever as well as many many more new LPs, but the demand is much greater than it was even 4 or 5 years ago. Inflation is one thing, but simply trying to find the limit on what the market will bear is part of what is going on now. Thirty bucks for a double album of 180 grams (for whatever that matters for a few more grams of plastic) is ridiculous. It is the same reason that CDs cost too much in the early days too.

Funny is good!!! There are parts of Moore's movies that have always made me unconfortable, parts of Roger and me and particularly hassling an obviously disabled Charlton Heston at the end of Bowling for Columbine. LouieB

I supppose this is where to report back on Poco....my first time ever in the Cubby Bear and frankly it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. This was a "seated show", since the dance floor was empty except for a few people sitting on the floor and me standing by the side. It was fun to see two old guys play some of the hits along with a couple somewhat younger guys playing too. Along with the hits were some newer tunes including one by Rusty Young and the bass player. Paul Cotton looked particularly old and seemed to be struggling during the last few numbers. In fact it took me a few minut

His version with the Guilty Women is quite good as is the rest of the album. Although you are somewhat correct that they can't touch Los Lobos musically, they had (no longer have, since they are not a going concern anymore) a great career, while Los Lobos carries on. Some of Los Lobos' more recent records are somewhat lack luster however. LouieB

Paul is a very nice guy, great performer, puts out good low key albums with great songs and simply can't get any traction; he is relentlessly old school. I like him alot and wish he would catch fire, but who knows.... LouieB

Yes I have at least one of their albums. Not bad, but not particularly good. You could do an entire radio show just on the groups Chris Hillman was in. Actually I am kind of looking forward to Poco. Didn't seem them back in the day (or at least I can't remember seeing them...) but I always liked their records a whole lot and have a stack of them. LouieB I would guess even now in this time of inflated vinyl prices you could still find them for cheap. His first album was pretty good, but some of the others....not so much. (I also own most of Eric Clapton's solo work at about 50 cents p

I did not know that..... Also time to revisit Super Session for the nostalgia factor....that and Buffalo Springfield was how I got into Steven Stills (oh yea those and the first CSN album and also him playing on Judy Collins records....) LouieB

Well it is good to see this one off type project still get some attention. There were many such such groups back in that time. (Somehow Chris Hillman managed to get into everyone...) Actually I have agreed to accompany a friend to a "Poco" show tonight. Not sure who is still left, but it could be interesting I donno.... LouieB

Exactly..... Great song.......Los Lobos covered it on a relatively recent EP of covers..... LouieB

There is something sort of humorous about this.....out-takes from an group that I am guessing is still out of print. Their first album was a double, which was probably more than they needed and their second was inferior to their first. Will be interested to hear if this really should have been released at all. Find their old stuff on musty and dusty vinyl. (Edit...I guess it is on CD, although easy enough to find on used LP...) LouieB

See the first post. Rosie is finally back playing Bloodshot records. Check her out if you have time. She wasn't leaving her house for a few weeks. LouieB

Giveit to me...I want to hear it....(but don't really want to pay that much for it...) LouieB
