Sad.... I saw a reunion with Ray Charles and Fathead Newman a few years back. He was sure good on his own too. LouieB

Total BS. It doesn't need a thumb hole, it needs a millimeter larger cover so that the inserts and CD sleeves can slide out without ripping the fucking cover. Someone was simply not thinking..... When they write about the demise of the CD this kind of crap will be part of the reason. LouieB

After watching some of the coverage last night, there is no way Wilco wouldn't have played if they had been asked. Also there were many places that they COULD have played that would have been both appropriate and very cool. All the big names hogged the Neighborhood Ball, but there was a youth ball and a home state ball, both of which could have hosted Wilco. Stupid....totally stupid. (I love Stevie Wonder, but come on now.....) LouieB

That's about right... There is already at least one Van Zandt tribute album out there. I suppose there can always be more. LouieB

Well I think we ALL should call about the torn covers.....that's crazy. LouieB

Actually Levon was a huge hit for Elton, maybe more are aware of Helm here, but not in the general public. It plays on classic rock stations all the time. LouieB

Yesterday I was ready to do that because I was pretty pissed. Now that the cover is not too badly damaged and I got the actual disk out it seems like just one more thing I should do. Yea, okay...I will. LouieB

Which cheese are we talking about here, cheddar, muenster, brie? The life blood of jazz has always been taking popular songs and turning them into something else, more complex and deeper. That is what the art of improvisation is all about. I have not heard this particular Bad Plus cut (I am waiting for a used copy to show up in some record bin sometime, I know that is unpatriotic and all...), but I particularly enjoy the other rock numbers they have done on other albums; their version of Life on Mars is particularly well done I think. We have probably seen the last great flowering of

I think that is the best part of the Bad Plus, that they do take chances and have expanded their market. I suppose we could also go on for pages about what jazz is supposed to be, but clearly some jazz education has gotten very stuck in the hard bop/modern era, since that was the artistic height of later jazz that is fairly accessable to the largest jazz audiences (avant material still leaves some folks cold.) I thought the release date was tomorrow?? Anyway I got a copy too. I was just a bit surprised, but I guess Andrew needs to pay Todd and Glenn for their work on the extra disk. Actually the extra disk is the only one I have listened to so far, because despite the really attractive packaging, the actual disk sleeve was stuck in the packaging so badly, that I tore the cover a bit trying to get it out when I wanted to listen to it in the car. I had to come home and get some tweezers to finally get the main disk out. I am excited to listen to it however when the time comes. I just think it

Barack knows who Wilco is; that is well documented. What is not obvious, and honestly can only be confirmed by Jeff or someone, is how close they really are. I always assumed they would play somewhere at the Inaguration. I guess that was wishful thinking. LouieB

I am surprised they aren't playing either. I am sure we would know if they were. LouieB

Yikes that's obscure....(I have a couple of his albums, but it isn't on either..however Inner City Blues is in one....) Look for plenty of Woody Guthrie and old folk stuff maybe... LouieB

Yes it is....got it on vinyl too... LouieB

Going to Chicago....what to do, see, stay, etc.

There is also one in Evanston. I have eaten at both and they do have good food. Incidently Zia's that is also reviewed on this episode (if it is still there...) also is a very good restaurant, sort of out of the way in Edison Park. Funny episode....the young verbose state senator... LouieB -
and it was a good one...although you can hardly tell it is Jeff....but still.... LouieB

Thanks for the link on this. I am not myspace savvy really, which is just the way Rosie wants it.... I wondered if you tuned it. Rosie had a method to her madness on the show the other night and since she doesn't log in here anymore I suppose I can reveal it. She simply put her iTunes on shuffle and made choices as they came up and then transfered them to her iPod and played those. I think the shuffle did a pretty good job in general. Stay tuned, she has a show planned with music from the apocolypse and when we do the show in February (Lincoln's Birthday) I want to spin political song

I have been trying to find these albums on vinyl during the past few years. Most are pretty easy to come by. LouieB

Someone needs to also tell this person how much shows cost. That might be helpful. LouieB

No, actually the Robyn Hitchcock song by the same name, but really it is that blues, country, jazz, rock, etc. are "devil's music". LouieB

Well it has been fun, but I am freezing my butt off in the basement.......this old timer is going out on the old timey stuff.... LouieB

I guess so should I since they are mine.... I had no idea.... I wonder who "requested" that Bowie/Turner thing? I may call and ask... LouieB
