Yea it sort of does make more sense to BE in Memphis, but Memphis has a bunch of top drawer tourist attractions, which Cleveland doesn't (Cleveland is my old home town.) Good place but very very pricey. If you know what you want and are willing to play for it is the place to go, but otherwise it sort of is not worth the time. They jumped on the collectors market and continue to ride it. I have not been in years, but I would concure. They have stuff you simply can't find anywhere else in town. Not mainstream stuff though. This is the "land of Lincoln" after all. Powells on Lincoln Ave sort of between Lincoln Park and Lincoln Square is pretty good too. The best bookstores in town are sort of in Hyde Park, not even close to Lincoln anything. Sadly many of the nice used and not used indie stores are gone. There used to be a good one in Lincoln Park near the old Lounge Ax (is it still there??) and Bookworks up by Wrigley Field is also pretty good. I get it now. I don't track the LR shows, so I forgot those were part of the mix. Find some time to take in whatever you can of Chicago while you are here. I would agree that the usual cycle of new album, tour, more tour and more tour will preclude a residency for awhile. Considering the very rough winter we are having here in Chicago, any thought of standing out this winter chills me to the bone. I forgot something else I was going to say. I found Blago's home the other day by accident. I sort of knew where it was but had never gone by. There is a really nice bath house called the Paradise at Montrose and Richmond (highly recommend it if you want a great whirlpool, sauna, steam room, etc.) and I went with a bunch friends last week. AFter we got totally cleaned up and were on our way home, we went north on Richmond and a block north of the Paradise is Sunnyside. I still think about those days, having not hitched in many a decade. It sure was fun, but sure was scary some days. I would love to do it again, but no one does it anymore for the exact reasons you say. I once picked up a guy in Ohio who was absolutely impossible to understand, drove him across Rt. 6 and finally dropped him in Michigan City. I can't say I was sad. It was very weird, but luckily not dangerous as it turned out. I have picked people up in the intervening years and occasionally lectured them on knocking it off, particularly if they were young women. LouieB
