  1. Depending on where on the south side, I suppose not going isnt unusual. But be rest asured some VCers will be there. BTW, Peterson is a mere kid compared to Von. He used to play the Get Me High Lounge in Bucktown a few decades ago, while Von played with Bird and other beboppers. LouieB
  2. I was up early also and just can't handle this kind of show in the middle of the week most of the time. Sucks doesn't it?? Considering Fred and DKVs set would probably start around 11 after the first set was over and some DJ time. Oh well. Hey join us for Von on the 30th if you don't have to work. (see von for the holiday thread). LouieB
  3. I am (sadly) going to guess that Wilco isn't getting an invite (as a band, maybe as individuals they are) to one of the balls. Clearly they are not performing at the Inaguration itself. LouieB
  4. Yes it does..I am still worn out from last February, and cold too... LouieB
  5. Yea, pretty amatur.....I would guess you could do better... LouieB
  6. Fox confessor is a terrific record..I am surprised we are still having to defend it. LouieB
  7. Well I forgot..one more 2 AM show, this time with Brother Ray on as well, although I doubt he will talk. meanwhile there is some metal show on before... opening with Ike and Tina and then Muddy Waters...Billie Holiday actually singing blues... even some Wilco.... Logging off after Visions of Johanna.... LouieB
  8. Thanks I was afraid I was having a flashback.... LouieB
  9. Since this just came out, this is as good a time as ever....(not appearing on anyone's top 10, but I sure like it too...) LouieB
  10. Wow, that's not the 70s I want to remember.... LouieB
  11. Needless to say the music programming on BEZ even in the old days wasn't perfect, but they did tend to play stuff that wasn't being played on other stations (world music, blues, jazz, celtic, with some of the shows being better than others such as Mambo express, Afro-pop worldwide, blues before sunrise, thistle and shamrock, piano jazz, etc.). I have a long standing grudge against BEZ that goes back quite a few years when Tony Malatia pulled Stuart Rosenberg off the air; his show was a great mix of all kinds of stuff and he was local and fun. The jazz programming also became fairly narrow a
  12. I haven't heard April, except for a song what was playing on the radio when I drove in just now. Strangely I like Tiny Cities... LouieB
  13. With regards to conspiracies and BEZ; had they not consistantly cancelled music programming over the last 10 years (now nearly totally) I would have more sympathy. Yea, okay, I am sort of down on the management there anyway, but I DO give money to them anyway because I like much of their programming and it is the right thing to do. But they repeat too many shows and could really use the music, which is what many public radio stations do have in various parts of the country. And since the talk is repeated serveral times it pushes out other good shows that could be aired. (Okay I am bitter
  14. Thanks for doing this. I was just looking at the Velvet Lounge line-up and they mention it there. Unfortunately Fred is playing the second set (the first starts at 9:30) and so I doubt I will make it. report back though. DKV rarely plays anymore so this is an event. LouieB
  15. "Shut Down" Compilation album. Surf music. This is a crazy comp I bought awhile back for 2 bucks (mono) with the Beach Boys, The super stocks, The Cheers, the piltdown men and robert Mitchum and some other forgotten bands of the era. Kinda cool on a snowy day. LouieB
  16. Yea, feel free to steal the idea (since it isn't from me anyway) and write it. I like the idea though. LouieB
  17. Yea, but McGuinn wrote that I think....he was the "spaceman"....ioops wrong....it is by McGuinn, Crosby AND Clark (Gene). This is a great place to talk about something McGuinn once said (I think...gawd my memory is getting hazy, what with all the useless info in my shrinking brain...), that most music from the first half of the 20th century was written on trains because musicians traveled on them and therefore most music sounds like trains and that during the second half when musicians traveled by plane more, the music has more of a whoosh or a roar like airlines. I have always found thi
  18. This is very fucked up. This American Life is a huge show not only on BEZ, but generally on NPR (I have never seen the TV show) and it seems that with all the begging that both BEZ and NPR always are doing that they could find a few bucks to post a free podcast of this stuff. Since they play it at least twice a week I never download it, but I understand why others listen to it that way. I know NPR is listener supported, etc, but to be begging for more money at this point seems tacky and unnecessary. The show is already produced and on the air; how much more money could it cost to post it as
  19. Could be. I had read somewhere that someone felt he had more potential as a solo artist. Sadly no matter what the reason, he never got any more famous or more productive after he left the group. LouieB
  20. Yea, maybe. Gene was certainly encouraged to go solo rather early (too early). It would have been nice if he had stuck around awhile longer. LouieB
