  1. Yea, I wasn't referring to the original box set, which I don't own; it just seems like alot of the pre-flyte sessions are issues and reissued alot, sometimes with different stuff included. There is also a thing called Byrd Parts that I picked up a while back that has weird stuff on it from different pre-Byrds and other side project type stuff. Sweetheart certainly was a different album. We can thank Gram for that I guess. LouieB
  2. Those were the days. Just looking at the cast of characters on these albums the other day makes me nostalgic. As mentioned in the various reviews of this material, it wouldn't even be possible to put out records like this on a mainstream label, much less assemble many of the most important players in improv in a run like this. 3. I have a copy of this on vinyl which is pretty sweet. This is really great stuff as far as I am concerned and trumps much of their later work. I also have a copy of the original release and one of the reissue and another LP called Never Before, which seems to be some demo stuff (and has Triad on it.) I can't quite get a handle on how much of these sessions actually exist, but this album is really worth having, to hear these guys working it out, at the pont that most of them were just kids. I really nice box set of all this material with other demos and stuff (like some of the stuff at the
  4. I would think that when the entire country of Iraq is dodging bombs and bullets, a couple shoes isn't too big a deal. LouieB
  5. Let's hope for a warmer time of year whenever they do schedule it....09 or 10. LouieB
  6. I think I said this before, but hell I will say it again. I can never listen to the pre-flyte sessions too often. I wish they would box all of them up in a nice package as well... LouieB
  7. It is the #1 album on the Onion's critics list too... LouieB
  8. Not really....good band, weak material, same as Byrdmanix. LouieB
  9. Right-wing, no longer funny comedians, who still think they are important?? I have seen them do the audience participation stuff also. At a show at the Riv they did something that sort of fell flat and ruined the end of the show. The obscure historical stuff is what makes them unique though.... LouieB
  10. See, that's what I can't figure out, particularly regarding this current single. Are they serious, is this tongue in cheek, are they just goofin on us or what? If they are serious, I can see you point. Having seen them a few times they appear serious at some times and not serious at others. I just don't know. LouieB
  11. I like most of it, although some of the later records (post Untitled) are uneven. The Airplane version is the best.... LouieB
  12. It is an aquired taste to be sure. Those new to it won't get it immediately or maybe ever. LouieB
  13. Meeting Wilco is the same as meeting any band. Don't stalk them, be polite and don't be demanding. Remember Wilco isn't a small time band anymore, so it is harder to find a way to talk to them than it used to be. LouieB
  14. Sorry I missed that. Stanley Clarke is one of my friend Beth's favorite musicians..... Time now to go shopping. LouieB
  15. Nothing like a day with the Byrds... LouieB
  16. I was thinking of buying this, but finally got around to checking my Braxton records and realized I have much of this (not all) on vinyl including: Alto Sax Improvisations, 1979 For Trio 1978 Montreaux/Berlin Concerts 1977 Duets 1976 Creative Orchestra Music 1976 I also have Duet and Trios on Sackville and this time on Actuel. Guess I should listen to these sometime... LouieB
  17. Here is hoping he becomes a greeter at WalMart somewhere.... LouieB
  18. Once a month?? Hasn't Ryan been putting out albums more than once a year anyway? LouieB
  19. Feel free to chime in on the thread I just started about this song. I think it deserves a convo of its own... LouieB
  20. Okay, not much is happening here so let's talk about just one song, that song being the latest single from the Decemberists... Now I have always given these folks their due; buying a few of their CDs and seeing them live on a few occasions, but despite all this I think this new song is just short of dumb, but has a very very catchy tune. I know some people can't stand Colin Meloy's voice and others think it is great, but this song brings out all the worst in him. On the other hand the somewhat irritating out front vocal stylings and somewhat goofy lyrics are backed up by some sweet instrum
  21. I think this is the right word; I assume he means a small gorge, such as is in New Hampshire at Franconia Notch. There could be such places in Northern Wisconsin where he did the album, I don't know. But it has taken Coldplay's Viva La Vida to get the Flume song out of my mind. Also on the tip of my brain....the Decemberists Valerie Plame. (Is this not just about the dumbest song this year??? But catchy as can be...) LouieB
  22. It doesn't really work for me, but I would certainly encourage anyone to go any Tuesday since at this stage any Tuesday could be the last one. LouieB
  23. Von Freeman appears to be soldiering on each Tuesday at the New Apartment Lounge on 75th St. Seems like a Tuesday around the holidays would be a good time to try and get a group together and go. Either the 23rd or 30th of December could work for me. Chime in if anyone is interested. I may go one of these days without y'all!!! LouieB
