Listening to music you don't like is just plain torture....and unnecessary. I have never found it necessary to like Radiohead. There are thousands or really tens of thousands of groups out there that have played music since the dawn of recording, so don't sweat it. Sonic Youth will always leave some people cold, hell they leave me cold sometimes too, which is why I suggested their slightly warmer and fuzzier cousins Yo La Tengo. You may not like them either, but basically they are doing the same thing, with different musicians and attitudes of course. LouieB So being from Ithica, d

What's the oldest thing in your house?

I have an education book that is from the early 1800s...not in really good shape, but old... LouieB -
I remember the Bijou (not that I was there or anything...not that there is anything wrong with that....) LouieB

Actually I was just thinking about this today....about getting out to see you and Rick in MA.... My friend Chris is coming to Chicago in a few weeks from Cambridge. I just may have to stop by and see him before the end of summer.....I never finished rearranging his LPs last year... LouieB

There was something so funky about the IRC. I have not logged on in years, but even when I did, the same old folks were still there.... LouieB

Yup..I think I may start a thread about this....my white Camry took many a VCer to many different shows including Wilco.... LouieB

Does anyone really care...LouieB was my IRC handle back in the pre-GUI days of the internet......(something few people remember...) LouieB

I am not afraid is surprisingly strong....there are few albums by YLT that are bad actually....none bad, but some better than others. LouieB

Well lets be honest..I only half read whatever Kot says.....that was the headline, which was close enough for me...(I read some of the article too.....) LouieB

That would be sweet.... LouieB

Lots of fests in that period.....I am guessing they are still nailing down those kinds of dates.... Lollapalooza just announced NIN and Radiohead, so maybe Wilco will be back here this year.... LouieB

One word....Toyotas....there is a reason they are nearly the best selling car in the world ...(incidently for all my friends out there, the Louie mobile was stolen a few nights ago, so bid farewell to the white Camry with all the music stickers on it....) (I have had five stolen now, so not only are they some of the best selling cars in the world, they are also some of the most stolen as well..) LouieB

Day Dream Nation is where most people start, but frankly if you start anywhere you will get the idea. All the suggestions are good (I haven't heard every single album they made since there are a ton.) I would not go with the O'Rourke collaborations (not meaning the official albums, some of which are very accessable) since these are the least accessable but very worthwhile collaborations. SY is not always an easy ride. Yo La Tengo is like Sonic Youth without quite the same amount of noise....give them a shot too if you haven't heard them. They are like brother and sister bands. LouieB

Actually I am NOT the oldest person here...just the oldest person here who posts all the time.... I also had a close but no cigar encounter with Venusstopsthetrain2....does she really exist?? LouieB

Hmm...why not...otherwise the president of your institution of higher learning would be SOL as would the head of the journalism school at Northwestern. etc. etc. borrowing others work (or just making shit up) is sadly a common occurance. Besides, this poor soul who is asking our advise seems very stressed out about a rather short paper that many of us here could write in our sleep. LouieB

This election is hardly about what anyone said or did last year or five years ago or 30 years ago...it is simply a chance to shake stuff up and maybe things will change....or maybe they won't. but at least we will have elected someone other than a white male for a change and that may be good enough for now... Was just fucking around.....I figured no one hardly cares either way (except for you...) ....I have a few new ones up my sleeve, but haven't downloaded them yet... Speaking of Thomas Dorsey....here is an interesting story that has nothing to do with him, but does have to do with Illinois politics.... The church where Dorsey was music director, the Pilgrim Baptist Church burned down a few years back, which is a tragedy in and of itself for about three or four different reasons, which won't be discussed here at the moment.... After the place burned down, our current Governor Blagojevitch,

From the sound of it.... a 10 page paper, you should be able to plagiarize an entire paper without any problem just from this book alone. LouieB

Here in Chicago (Obama's home town, but everyone knows that...) we get a front row seat to Tony Rezko's ongoing corruption trial, which will (sadly) eventually get mentioned more often than not in the presidential campaign. Things are so corrupt here in IL that these local politics will certainly impact Obama's future no matter what the outcome. I would like to be all rosie about all this, but frankly politics is a dirty dirty business and IL is one of dirtiest places in the country, both city and statewide. The local press continues to hound Obama on his relationship with Rezko and he c

No you should have donated it to me.... I never read it but I did look at it at various bookstores over the years. It seemed like I knew most of the stuff so sadly I never bought it. I bet there is a used copy for sale somewhere (yea there are bunches of copies on Amazon...) As mentioned earlier, No Depression has a reader of their early articles, which is always a good way to start. LouieB
