  1. Glad we can impress someone from NYC....hope you get your voice back; between not being able to hear and you not being able to talk it was kind of a tough night.....I plan to opt for the balcony one night this week also. Exactly.... LouieB
  2. Absolutely.....not going without earplugs again..... LouieB
  3. I have a question....I know there were taping rigs there, but why was the management being so harsh about "professional cameras"? I would think that the actual music would be worth a whole ton more on the open market than some pictures.... LouieB
  4. Yea, and in some cases he stuck him with only eight... LouieB
  5. Actually it was a guitar with a banjo head...(there is an off color joke in this somewhere but I am too tired to even consider it....) I think my hearing is perminantly gone in my left ear..oh well....my bad for not bringing ear plugs... Really really great time. I didn't think the show would go on so long. Having already played some of the regulars, the remaining four nights should get ever more adventuresome. There are huge hunks of all albums left to play I suppose, but as many said, Nels' solos were magnificent, the horns were actually sort of hearable and great and the band was on fire
  6. I can't give an answer either, it is just the way it evolved. 12 bar is basically a couplet with the first line repeated in a slightly different chord progression. That information you need to get from someone more musical than I am. LouieB

Jeez, I thought we talked THAT one to death..,., LouieB
  8. Ya, know..you are probably right and perhaps the location of the loft should be better know. The fact is lots of people DO know where the loft is (and unlike Abbey Road it is not really all that much to see), so those NOT in the know only need to be patient, talk to the right people at the right time and chances are you will find out where it is. Frankly it ain't much to see. Another clue.....there is space for rent in the building...find a building with a for rent sign on it and there you go. LouieB
  9. It would be great to have some guests sit in, it happened at the Vic with a horn section, etc. Let's hope so. LouieB
  10. Me either. I am sure alot of the out takes will be played and hopefully some of the old covers they have played in concert. LouieB
  11. Strangely enough I was just there two days ago (Tuesday) taking a campus tour, since Brother Ray is interesting in going there. Go figure. NIU is in DeKalb, site of the Otto's shows from a few years back, to give this a Wilco slant. LouieB
  12. I end up passing the Loft often on my travels around Chicago. Stalk me and you will eventually find it... LouieB
  13. Well I didn't stay awake for this. Is there a simple (for us simpletons) way to download this?? Podcast, etc? I can check myself, but just busy today on the road. (The Who fronted by a Japanese school girl was part of a promo...was that the most interesting thing said??) LouieB
  14. I have said this before, but certainly in bringing an end to racial segregation and helping bring blacks and whites together, music changed the world; first swing music in the 30s and jazz and R&B in the 40s and finally rock and roll in the 50s. I don't know what Neil is expecting, but while there isn't one single song that changed the world, musical movements certainly changed people's attitudes and singing helped keep people strong during times of struggle. 15. It was and it is. Langford is a funny guy anyway and they will be playing records and talking. I doubt I will stay awake, but it should be fun. Of all Chicago musicians, I have seen Langford perform in one band or another maybe hundreds of times. LouieB
  16. Don't worry, there will be plenty of singles at the show. Just show up and have fun. Everyone will be friendly here in Chicago. LouieB
  17. Bring blankets, it is gonna be cold. LouieB

I thought the Fogerty performance with two of the original bad boys of rock and roll was interesting as well. Jerry Lee looks to be on his last legs and Little Richard is sort of ageless what with a good make-up job and and his wig. (I think he and Amy Winehouse must have the same wigmaker....) LouieB
  19. Yea, I thought that whole recognition thing (the entire night) was rather weird. Robbie was in the audience at least....I don't know that Levon was. LouieB
  20. The bottom line is this....enjoy the Obama presidency....it wouldn't have been possible even a few years ago... LouieB
  21. Yea..in 30 years none of this will matter....enjoy college while you are there.... LouieB

It was totally odd that Herbie won album of the year, but good for him I suppose. His album (which I have not heard, but intend to get today..seems like a good Valentine's present) is hardly a "jazz" album, what with all the rock/folk/folk-rockers on there, but it is close enough I suppose. It also got very luke warm reviews when it first came out, but now I suppose will sell many more copies. Wow some people really have good eyes, I only saw Jeff once during the show. As for Kanye, too bad....his ego needs to be tamped down a touch. LouieB

He is undeniably talented, but if only he were less full of it.... That's it...my battery is about done....later all. LouieB

Well after this I figure Amy Winehouse's 15 minutes are about over... LouieB
