  1. Thanks for the news on this. I had been wondering about this in recent days, since there seems no logical reason (there are plenty of illogical ones of course) for someone so young to have passed away after receiving medical attention. I know this is tacky, but someone needs to sue. If she had that serious an illness and was not admitted for long term care, that is really dreadful. LouieB
  2. Uh,...five nights out at Wilco seems enough.. Incidently Brother Ray has a ticket too for Saturday. LouieB
  3. I should post the getting around in Chicago thing I did a few years ago for the Auditorium shows or something. As far as places to go, the Green Mill is directly across the street (Lawrence, not Broadway) and would be a good "safe" bet for meeting up. Other interesteing places within a stones throw, Shake Rattle and Read in the same block (records and books), Fiesta Mexicana (decent Mexican food), a funky tacoria around the corner (changed names), what is supposed to be a good Ethiopian restaurant diagonally across the street, Starbucks right across the street, Magnolia (an upscale Indian r
  4. Since Joe told us to go see Allen Toussaint, I went...to the late show at OTS. It was also a very fun show, with Allen talking alot. His band is also very good. I am sure he has done these songs a thousand times, so the set seemed a bit canned, but it was really excellent none the less. I stuck around and shook his hand as he and his band got into a large white stretch limo after the show. I realized that he really doesn't have to play anymore, but it is cool that he does. LouieB
  5. Strangely a couple came in and wiped out their supply of the Twinight 45s though. I didn't think it was you, but I wasn't sure. They have plenty of the CDs. LouieB
  6. Some of the band, including Jeff, sang backup on a few MA songs at the Chicago Fleadh....I was there....not exactly a tour, but it sort of happened. LouieB
  7. Sounds like a good idea.... In case anyone has forgotten, this type of thing is not new; after all Elvis died approximately the same way, on drugs that were all legal and prescribed. LouieB
  8. Where did he play?? LouieB
  9. Either way...did you get the albums? I didn't make it to Laurie's yesterday, but plan to today. Often people say they will see me and based on screen names, etc. I have no clue who they are until they tell me. LouieB
  10. well yea....7 or 8 hours..... Mostly I can't handle Summerfest..... LouieB
  11. Are you someone I know?? Wilco ensemble or something?? It is so hard to tell here. Hey Perm..long time no see... LouieB
  12. Yea, I agree..no small kids in front for a GA show. I have seen rude adults put kids on their shoulders so the kids could see, blocking out adults who then can't. It all has to be done in a way that makes sense. If a child can't handle a long wait or is too young, don't take them. Older children (such as the above quoted TG) was always patient and somethat older (teenager), but even when she went younger, you have to be prepared to bug out if things fall apart. LouieB
  13. I was seriously kidding about the getting kicked out thing. I don't think any of the other members from the original line up made it through the whole run of the group did they? The debut was good, but the hit singles brought it all home (money wise). Some of the rest of the recordings aren't too bad. Actually the final record isn't too bad if you dump the semi-rap stuff Jakob engaged in. Stick with the singing guy..... LouieB
  14. Tell any of the staff I sent you okay? We are all good friends.....it won't guarantee a discount, but at least they will be happy to know you know me, (or not.... ) The Numero table was easy to miss. I was right across the aisle and didn't even realize who it was until the second day when one of the engineers came and wanted a discount on something we were selling. Of course they didn't discount ME across the way, but it didn't matter. LouieB
  15. So if his group doesn't have a contract, how is he putting out a solo album (it better be better than the last Wallflowers CD... of course I only paid $4 for it....) LouieB
  16. Just borrow a kid and save the child support payments for other shows..... \LouieB
  17. Sorry to mislead you....none really. There is a record dealers tent at Pitchfork, the usual Indie labels, used dealers, etc., but Numero had a table too. I was selling used LPs with a friend right across from their table and went over and bought the Belize LP and Twinight CD directly from these guys. The reissued Twinight 45s looked pretty cool too. I am sure they thought I was nuts (who doesn't??) gushing about how important their work was and all. LouieB
  18. Some are, some aren't. Get with it man.... Laurie's Planet of Sound has them in stock. They are available from some of your better retailers, though the online thing is fine directly from Numero. I wish I had the entire line, but hey, you have to draw the line somewhere.(Working at home today....) I only own three...Bandit, Big Mack, and Twinight (double CD). The major thing about this material is it is NOT polished or the kind of stuff you can hear from Stax or Atlantic or MoTown. Much of it is rather rough around the edges. As long as one goes into this with slightly lower exp
  19. I do....I spoke to the folks who put these together at Pitchfork. Told them how important their work is on this. LouieB
  20. All five if I live that long...always up for talking about music. Sadly I do not own anything before Short man, but ordered one of the earlier ones used. Some are going for big money on Amazon through dealers. I have seven and I guess there are 10. Why is he not better known? Because there are hundreds/thousands of recording artists out there. There are just too many people making music out there. (listening to Jesse Malin as I write this, someone I just recently started listening to through his latests, also a very good singersongwriter...and not a mumbler either...) There just isn
  21. What happened, did the Wallflowers kick Jakob Dylan out??? LouieB
  22. Holy Crap....I spoke to you yesterday and forgot entirely... Happy Birthday!!!! LouieB
  23. The only problem with taking kids to shows is smoke, too many asshole drunks or a long wait. Otherwise Wilco is a great band to take kids to see. LouieB
  24. I hadn't seen this.... I had several friends who were TM fanatics...even tried to levitate as a result. LouieB
