  1. See the other thread about hotels and other fun Chicago tourist and non-tourist shit... LouieB
  2. I like the Southland...without it there would hardly be any good popular music for us to enjoy now... Also there are a ton of Northers who live there now..... LouieB
  3. Rosie and I sent Natalie a postcard from the town several years ago when we went through there on a family trip down to Memphis.... LouieB
  4. The Kopi is a great place, partially owned and partially operated by local musician Al Rose...... Superdawg is a bit off the beaten track...only for those with cars.... LouieB
  5. Yea he is something...Man Under the Influence is a great place to start actually. He has been very prolific over the years. Nice guy too.....about my age also.... LouieB
  6. That's the way I feel half the time. I loved reading this article on Shelby Lynne this morning.....at 39 she appears to be "discovering" older music. Not sure where she has been all these years, but at least she is trying hard.....and maybe this Dusty Springfield album will be pretty good. They connect Billy Sherril to Tammy Wynette, but frankly he was connected to every Nashville artist back in the day. Some days I am not sure that is legacy is something to brag about.... LouieB
  7. Let's face it..we're fucked.... LouieB
  8. Absolutely...give Joe Henry's new CD "Civilians" a listen. The guy knows how to make records so it doesn't matter what format it is on, it breaths. If you stuff a cut with noise it is going to sound like noise...hell the Spector "wall of sound" cuts sound simple compared to what is being pushed out today.... LouieB
  9. Needless to say just being brothers wouldn't necessarily keep them from breaking up (ie the Everly Brothers, the Blasters, the Meat Puppets, etc.) but it seems like they are having a good year. Thanks. LouieB
  10. I must be missing something... Did any one from here attend the Portland memorial service? If so could someone give a brief symposis of what occured...Thanks. I have one additional thought that keeps bugging me. I know Natalie didn't get along with her parents so well, but as a parent I would hope that they found some sense of peace before her passing. 11. Exactly. Whenever this kinda stupid argument about the superiority of vinyl comes up, you have to realize that those older records sounded great because they "sounded great" not necessarily because of the medium they are on. It is exactly the reason the Beach Boys and others (strangely I just got done listening to an old (obviously) vinyl copy of Surfer Girl I found in a resale shop for 50 cent) listened to their records on shitty little car and transistor radio speakers to make sure they spoke to their listeners as they would hear the music. I suppose the obvious fact is that lots of artis
  12. Well I guess the title of the album says it all. Aren't these guys brothers? Can someone with some knowledge about this band do the Readers Digest version of all this rather than looking through dozens of unsubstantiated stuff from a message board?? I just bought a ticket to the Schubas show. I have only seen them accoustic, so I was lookng forward to the electric set. LouieB
  13. It isn't going to matter if a shitty sounding song is on vinyl, it is the same shitty sounding song. Likewise older more balanced (and aired out) music from the past sounds perfectly fine on CD if remastered for the medium. LouieB
  14. Well since we can't really agree...The Swimming Hour... with Kevin O'Donnell and Nora O'Connor.... LouieB
  15. No one is actually IN the painters union, so what's the difference.....?? LouieB
  16. The Days in on Diversy and Wilco get mentioned in the same paragraph in this goofy article in the Red Eye about rockers and hotels in Chicago....... LouieB
  17. Yup....for starters... LouieB
  18. The King Kong Compilation..... LouieB
  19. Aren't there two albums? Excuse my ignorance on this.....I thought there was an EP and a new album or is it all part of the same package???. I also have a friend who is a huge fan who thinks this new stuff is the best ever...go figure. I can't ever stay awake for Conan.... LouieB
  20. It is so interesting how Bird has built a following over alot of years. He is certainly not an overnight success, which is cool. I remember seeing him for the first time at Metro (he opened for two other bands and stop me if you have heard this story before) thinking he was already a big star of some sort because he was on Rykodisk with his group Bowl of Fire and he said that Metro was the largest venue he had ever played up to that point. This was a pretty long time ago (maybe 10 or so years...) The last time I saw him was at the Hideout block party which was pretty crowded and outdoors,
  21. Wow, this must be really new because I did a B&B search for someone a week or so ago and it didn't come up. Could have been my bad searching though. 5863 is deep in the heart of Edgewater (Andersonville is really just an area, not a neighborhood but you are correct it is adjactent to the Andersonville business district) and although not walking distance from the Riv (although it could be) it is really close. The Riv is 4800 on Broadway so really this is just about a mile and a half from this B&B. B?&Bs can be really nice, but generally more money than hotels. Wilco should be g
  22. I just discovered a new cover of Everybody's Talkin on the Bobby Bare Sr. album produced by Bobby Jr. LouieB
  23. On behalf of VC and Chicago I will accept the thank you.... Here in Chicago the crowds are sadly no longer small when he performs... LouieB
