I thought the breaking of the 4th wall was actually pretty amazing and very creepy. And I guess they ended with the real Dylan so he could actually be there instead of not there.... LouieB

Thanks A-man...I was also looking in Someone else's song, so go figure... Well the former TG and the rest of the family went to see this movie last night at the Muvico out in Rosemont. We were the only ones in the theater when the previews started, but another couple (yea only two) people joined us. Crazy... Good movie...really good movie, but I suppose it is mostly for Dylan fans. The inside info is rampant, but that makes it fun. There were only a couple moments when the cinematic technique and concept stretch credibility and patience, but nearly all of it was good fun. Two thing

Yea, it must have just happened this afternoon or evening. This happens all the time but for some reason this really upsets me. LouieB

Another one of the world's great musicans, Oscar Peterson died today at 82. Peterson had incredible technique and speed on piano and played with all the greats. He was pretty much the house pianist at both Clef/Verve records in the 50s and 60s and then held a similar position as both an accompanist and a leader at Pablo in the 70s and 80s. I was lucky enough to see him twice, once in the early 80s I think and then in the early 90s after suffering a stroke. Both performances were amazing. He made hundreds of records during his career. Most everything he did was both amazing and enjoyabl

Saw the movie...that was good enough for me. Good luck selling these. LouieB -
It used to be called "country" but of course just like the term "liberal" you can't use that term anymore.... LouieB

I recently picked up some Bonzo Dog Band LPs, or did I say that on the last thread....interesting group. I have had some other of their LPs for awhile. LouieB

Interestingly enough, all those people who were defending the Lucinda album earlier in the year aren't here to defend it now. If we bring up the original thread lots of folks were saying it was some of the best stuff she had ever done (and would be on a best of list). I guess they finally came to their senses. LouieB

I haven't heard the new one either, but it can't be WORSE than the Lucinda record.... LouieB

Absolutely the truth..not to mention the waste of some great back-up musicians. I borrowed the review copy from Laurie's and may never even buy a used copy. You must be a kid...or kidding... Sorry. I have heard the National (well Alligator only) and while they are quite good, Lucinda has some marvelous records besides car wheels. Dig a bit deeper. LouieB

Sad indeed...the guy was a year younger than me. Frank Zappa also died of prostate cancer. Get your prostate exams guys..... LouieB

Chicago's Thrill Jockey 15th Anniversary Party
LouieB replied to Wendy's topic in Someone Else's Song
Some other notes..... It was great hanging with WaronWar (Phil), who is well versed (and chorused) on music beyond his few years. This was a spectacular opportunity for him (and me) to see a wide variety of groups, particularly some I had not seen before and would not have gone out of my way to see (such as Firey Furnaces) and may not see again. One of the reviews commented on how animated groups like Tortoise were as well. If anyone is interested in getting the Thrill Jockey megamix...a word of caution. I listened to this today and frankly it is not all that exciting; having been muc -

Chicago's Thrill Jockey 15th Anniversary Party

Thanks for caring...some day if I get the energy I will do a real write-up (you know I can). There were some really lovely touches and performances. I guess if I had to sum it all up it was great to see many of the artists walking around watching the other acts and talking to both fans, friends and colleagues. Bettina herself was walking around alot and talking to people (I said thanks before I left at the end of the second night...she kinda looked at me like I was crazy...). Tim Rutili was particulary animated and downright funny during Califone's set, something I had never seen him do b -
Wilco isn't THAT big a band..just six pieces. Yea, the Riv is a shithole, but an historic one I guess. I am not pissed off because I did get tickets. The entire system sucks, with way too much anxiety and anger; that much we can all agree on I guess. It is really simply the luck of the internet if you can get tickets or not, nothing else. Hit the refresh button EXACTLY at the right time and you are blessed; one false move and you end up pissed off and left out. LouieB

They HAVE to record the Winter Residency
LouieB replied to Relatively Clean Rivers's topic in Just A Fan
Exactly so some day it could surface as a stream or something. Yea for sure. I think there was plenty of the audience in the Vic shoot. I don't think it had anything to do with that at all. LouieB -
Chicago's Thrill Jockey 15th Anniversary Party
LouieB replied to Wendy's topic in Someone Else's Song
Wow, last night was cool too. Really energetic sets from Tortoise, Eleventh Dream Day and particularly Califone. Frequency was good as well with a smaller group than usual, just Ed Wilkerson and Nikki Mitchell and a drummer. I loved Ed's comment at the end of their set "Now back to your regularly scheduled program." Although the groups were pretty eclectic, needless to say, the jazz type groups were a bit more out of loop. Jeff Parker and Wilkerson were chatting it up earlier in the evening. MVP of the series was Doug McCombs on bass and guitar who played with his own group Brokeback, -

Considering Chicago is filled with tapers, I figure there will be plenty of boots out there of this entire thing. Don't count on an official CD I don't think. (If the Vic shows didn't make it to DVD, I doubt this one will either.) LouieB -
