Antoin "Tony" Rezko is Obama's Achillies heel. Sadly even Obama can't get away from this kind of politics here in Illinois and Chicago that dirties everyone. (A guy like Rezko was politically incorrectly termed a "Chinaman" in the old days...) I voted Kucinich last time, but this time I am going with Barak. Kucinich (the boy mayor of Cleveland) has no chance and never will. Barak has a bright future even if this isn't his year. LouieB

I used to check out Half.com, but haven't thought of that in awhile. Will have to go back there. Often when I go to Amazon, I use Caiman.com as the dealer. They usually have the cheapest new CDs and they seem to get them to me pretty fast. LouieB

Exactly, plus Jeff hired him in a different context than Jay. Nels is not a singer/songwriter, so isn't interested in giving that kind of input to the band. LouieB

I know this is tacky as hell, but as far as I can tell, Von Freeman is still doing Tuesdays at the New Apartment Lounge at 504 E. 75th St. in Chicago. I plan to go tomorrow November 20, so any Chicago or other VCers are welcome to join in the fun. Get there by 10 for a seat or later if you don't mind standing. As usual, this is free, but you do need to buy some drinks. I suspect that Von won't be doing this too much longer, he is now about 85 and still going great, but who knows. LouieB

Dumping on Modern Times certainly has become a bit of a cottage industry. It really isn't nearly as bad (not even close) as Under the Red Sky or parts of Knocked out Loaded. LouieB

Well not exactly, but sort of. I was in North Carolina for the past 5 days and made it out and about many times there. I flew back in by midnight....hit a couple song circles when I was down there and did some hiking and driving around. Frankly at the moment I feel like crap, but have no fear, I will be there to buy drinks.... LouieB -
I read the Seamus Heaney translation in preparation for this movie.... LouieB

Me too, I heard it just the other day. The cheezy keyboards and all, good stuff. Silly Love Songs is simply the worst based on the horrid lyrics. LouieB

The Flying Burrito Brothers Live - Avalon Ballroom 1969
LouieB replied to Analogman's topic in Someone Else's Song
I bought this and listened to both discs the other day. Aside from the ridiculous packaging (hard to extract discs, the booklet coming loose from the cover), it is a fun time, but mostly for long time fans wanting to hear something new. The set lists are almost identical for both sets, the sound is okay as a bootleg, the musicianship is less than stellar (but then the Burrittos where never about perfection) and there are not enough originals in either set. Other than that, I wouldn't miss this one, particularly if you want to hear Gram (who is formost in the mix anyway). LouieB -
Yea, I have that...good stuff. I suppose a project like this can yield some positive results, but the lightening in the bottle of Mermaid Avenue may be hard to replicate. LouieB

Someday when my head is clear I will think of some true pop songs (singles - oldies) that fit the bill. There are tons really. LouieB

The band undoubtedly needs some time off. Perhaps when things gear back whenever....Spring?? LouieB

Is this a good idea? LouieB

It is a very heartfelt movie and that would be a reasonable reaction. LouieB

I am good for it. I won't be drinking, but that doesn't mean the rest of the VC crowd can't. LouieB -
I used to be the oldest guy here...not anymore.... LouieB
