I suppose there was a thread on this sometime in the past, but I don't seem to have Analogman's supernatural search powers so I couldn't find one. I have been convolecing as some of you know so I hit up Netflix for some documentaries I have been wanting to see (in addition to some I saw prior to my time off). Of the handful of docs (and one biopic) I have seen the one on Arthur "Killer" Kane is by far the best. I saw the Roky Ericson, the Daniel Johnston, the Brian Jonestown Massacre and this one within a few weeks of one another. All were worth the time, with the Ericson and Johnston o

Chicago's Thrill Jockey 15th Anniversary Party
LouieB replied to Wendy's topic in Someone Else's Song
Despite the poor venue (could be worse I suppose) and the bad timing, this still should be a good time featuring some of TJ and Chicago's best bands. Thrill Jockey is really a great label with an adventuresome and eclectic line-up and still deserves our support. Having said that, I guess now I have to go.... LouieB -

Chicago's Thrill Jockey 15th Anniversary Party

Well yea...but damn, the line-up is so great, even $50 isn't so bad; too bad it wasn't the Metro or somewhere like that. LouieB -
I am way better today. Turned a corner yesterday. I don't know when I thought of that little mind game, but as you cross the Chicago river going north on the Brown line (the only way it goes) the view is spectacular and one day standing in the back of the train (on of my favorite places) I realized that MT ducks in and out of view for quite awhile, despite all the buildings that block it on the way. Crazy... LouieB

Sad day.....this was too early for the papers I guess... I read Naked and the Dead so so many years ago.... LouieB

Laurie's Planet of Sound 10th Anniversary (plug)
LouieB replied to Dr. Steve Brule's topic in Someone Else's Song
If you come all the way from LA you can have two..... (at $2 a PBR I can be really generous.....) I think the consensus is that this event is going to sell-out, particularly since Alex White will have a big draw that night. LouieB -
Now its time for VW to get Jeff Tweedy behind the wheel....I think that would sell way more VWs and Wilco albums.... LouieB

Go Bettina.... Too bad it it is at the stinkin Logan Square Auditorium. LouieB -
Wow...totally staggering.... This may be a good time to bring up a mind game I sometimes played on the way home from work (stupidity alert here...) If you stand in the back of the train on the Brown line it is fun to see how far north you can go before you totally lose sight of Marina Towers. You would be surprised at how far north you can get and still catch a glimpse. Try it sometime..... LouieB

Very cool. It is Dan the Fan's birthday as well. Lou -
Pretty much awesome is correct. There is a studio album that is about the same. I broke down and ordered a kind of expensive vinyl copy of that awhile back. Many of his albums including the ambients are out of print I think, not completely sure. Robert Fripp was quite the producer there for awhile. LouieB

My self image is shit....27 Frankly i knew very little about some of that stuff.... LouieB

Actually Dylan has always said in every interview he ever did that there is NO meaning behind what he does and I think that's the truth. I would like to think that this Caddy thing is a way to fuck up his imagine and keep everyone guessing, but frankly I think it is just a way to fuck up his image and pocket a ton of dough. Other than that I don't feel there is anything happening here for all us Mr. Joneses. LouieB

Sorry to post this up twice, but I saw this last night. Excellent movie. A bit long getting to the end, but other than that they did a great job with the music and recreating some of the songs (others were actually JD). Very believeable and well acted. LouieB

Are Jay Bennett's post-Wilco tunes worth listening to?
LouieB replied to andshewas's topic in Someone Else's Song
Somewhere there should be a FAQ on Jay Bennett's solo material. You will either love it or hate it.... LouieB -

Eno has produced more records himself, with other people and for other people than just about anyone. It is amazing what a busy guy he has been over the years. The Ambient Music series are also good. LouieB

No one should be surprised by anything Dylan does these days, frankly. I have been tring to get through the Dylan interview book and many of them from the late 70s on are so boring it is beyond belief LouieB

I finally saw this flick last night. It was the last night it was showing at the Music Box and it was really quite good. Worth checking out. The end takes a bit too long, but the rest of the movie is quite interesting and the the recreation of the JD songs (some are are actually JD) sounds pretty authentic. LouieB
