  1. Took awhile, but it went up. LouieB
  2. Wow...he just got a medal too... LouieB
  3. Derek wasn't there.... since I would not have neglected to mention him..... I didn't include Jake's friend however, who's name I have now forgotten, but he seemed to appreciate our loud and drunked music talk (jazz was only part of the night...) LouieB
  4. No one is greater than the Ramones!!!! (Just last week I finally found a reasonabley priced copy of the one Ramones album of the first four I did not own on vinyl....thanks to Laurie's....) LouieB
  5. Hey, I did cover ECM, which is about as close to smooth jazz as I will admit to (okay I own the George Winston album Winter which I found in a resale shop for fity cent...) and I have a few other disks that veer pretty close to that. Jake kindly agreed to publish this sight unseen. Frankly who else would be interested? (thanks Jake...) It was an interesting and somewhat drunken night, even though I am not much of a drinker (one beer limit). LouieB
  6. Thanks all. I am in Springfield so don't have time to reply to everything here, but it was fun to write and glad it finally saw the light of day. I don't believe anything was cut. LouieB
  7. I guess if others can promote their bands and writing I can too. I did a long peice for Glorious Noise which they were nice enough to publish, so check it out if you are interested. It is kinda long though. LouieB
  8. Four songs is my understanding...near the end of the show. LouieB
  9. Dude, it was here....three theaters including Evanston. Hopefully with the good press this is getting it will go into wider distribution. LouieB
  10. Nice that Jon and Sally are opening this year. This is a first come first served event and usually Jeff is the only act that fills the place, the rest of the time it is pretty easy to get in. LouieB
  11. I enjoyed my trip there, but hopefully they will actually play some dates in Chicago this time, for the hometown crowd. LouieB
  12. Not sure about the Faces box since I don't have that, but the Bruce box is one of the tackiest pieces of crap ever... After awhile you can get these CDs out of the slipcover, but not without putting your fingers on the music side. Either that or you have to pretty much tear the thing open which would be a drag also. Either way Amoeba wasn't thinking on this one, but we do have them to thank for getting it out to us, so I guess that is good enough. LouieB
  13. Well yes, such as Stevie Wonder's Fingertips part 1 and 2. Needless to say a 45 RPM record had time limitations as did 78s which also eventually began to split material in half, such as Ellington's Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue, which was before my time.... LouieB
  14. Well they thought they were doing right, but being unable to get the disks out and the badly stapled booklet are both problems. Other than that it is a pretty fun set. LouieB
  15. that's the way the single version of Like a Rolling Stone was as well. LouieB
  16. I wonder if this is the same film crew that was so rude and obnoxious at the Hideout when they played there?? If so they should put this thing together and get it out there.... LouieB
  17. Eli's of course....never miss an opportunity there.... Yea, had it many a time, often free. The factory out on the far north west side is fun to visit and they sell the stuff cheap there. Nice guys......and decent product as well. LouieB
  18. Cheesecake?? Anyway, after all this talk and despite the Logan Square Auditorium, I just ordered my ticket.... LouieB
  19. No pic needed...that was Tim..... I spoke to him the other night and I thought he said they asked him to introduce someone. Tim can go on and on and always waxes nostalgic about Chicago. Incidently he had a great time in London, enjoyed himself alot. LouieB
  20. Yea, I guess I would sort of like to see it for a laugh or two even now. Supposedly Ric Addey of Shake Rattle and Read here in Chicago was tapped for some technical assistance on the movie. I never could tell if Ric was bullshitting or what, but he sure bragged about it at the time. LouieB
  21. I suppose hidden tracks became something of a cliche since it was so easy to do on CDs. Personally I was never that big a fan of the fade-out, but during the LP era (and 45 singles) it was a way to keep time down. To me it was always sort of a cop out. LouieB
  22. $5 sounds about right, but then again I never saw this one.....Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison and what's his name the director always sounded like a bad combo.... Of the current crop, Control is a pretty good movie, but only if you like Joy Division, otherwise it might leave you kind of cold. LouieB
  23. No Fred Anderson either I guess...or Frequency. The beauty of TJ is they aren't ghettoized musically and have included some of the best Chicago "jazz" as well as rock and as mentioned Freakwater, which is more country than anything else. It is so great that they have given some attention to other types of music. LouieB
  24. Did they get Tim Tuten to introduce any of the bands? Tim has certainly become the sound of Chicago introductions.... LouieB
