  1. Can someone hook this guy up with some old threads here? Get a copy of the Reader when you get here, or if you want a copy of Time Out. Visit Laurie's Planet of Sound in Lincoln Square. You can get hot dogs nearly anywhere and there are tons of pizza joints also. Visit neighborhoods if you get a chance rather than just the areas adjacent to downtown. Places people seem to like are Wicker Park, Wrigleyville, Lincoln Square, Lakeviewf, Andersonville and a few others. Check out some of the ethnic neigbhorhoods, like Pilsen, Devon Avenue, Albany Park, etc. Go to the Hideout, Schubas or any
  2. Where is Ottos?? LouieB
  3. Me too....sounds fine. We have been hearing Walken for some time, so I am not really sure what is wrong with it. The arrangement is pretty much the same as it has been all along. LouieB
  4. did someone say this? Couldn't they have found a newer pic of the band than the one they posted??? LouieB
  5. See my comments above; the rapping coudn't be more irritating the the backing musicians are not used to good effect either. LouieB
  6. Yea, and the writers and reviewers seem to know about music other than the current buzz bands. LouieB
  7. Exactly. Nanci is great, but she has lost a few steps in recent years. LouieB
  8. yea, they are and I do; but it is not as slick as Harp and Paste. The articles are still a little rough around the edges and the opinions are slightly off the mainstream. I still like the mag and find that when I read the reviews I actually want to buy stuff I read about. LouieB
  9. ND is still a very good mag. There was an entire cover story on Lucinda last time. LouieB
  10. I'll wait for a cheap copy to come my way like it did with her last one.... LouieB
  11. I suspect that ultra long guitar solos have had their day..... LouieB
  12. LouieB

    Glenn Solo

I am guessing that he won't, but it will still be worth seeing. LouieB
  13. Oh yea...so it is....its all good. LouieB
  14. I thought they were the new Jesus Lizard.... LouieB
  15. I guess I need to try harder....can we go back to talking about the Arcade Fire now?? LouieB
  16. If someone has an extra I will buy it!!! I am guessing this is at the Auditorium?? I just figure they are too hot (get it Arcade FIRE) and maybe too hot for me to see. LouieB
  17. Man I am so behind the times.....didn't he do this already?? LouieB
  18. See my comments above. Come On does have a very good hook and is somewhat enjoyable until you listen to the words and realize she is dissing the guys sexual prowess. Yikes. Also until I went back and reread some of the reviews I half forgot the album is full of great musicians, because they aren't used to very good effect. Good to see Jenny Scheinman getting lots of work these days. I didn't know much about her until I saw her with Scott Amendola; sure am glad I got to shake her hand, she is one talented violinist. Have fun next weekend. Will see you someday soon. LouieB
  19. I listened to most of the rest of the other night and continue to be amazed that this album is being characterized as being a masterpiece by anyone. First off, the rapping HAS to go....it sucks. In fact I don't even think it is that great an album musically either (aside from issues with the lyrics which I am willing to leave up to everyone else's discresion on this, although I think lyrically it is weak too). Lucinda has had far better backup on other records; the arrangements and musicianship on this are hackneyed and obvious in most places. There are hundreds of albums released a year
  20. Since I know both of you personally and respect your opinions, this is a good place to put the obvious platitude that what we hear usually has to do with our expectation going in. Since I have had lowered expectations on Lucinda since the release of WWT and hearing her sound sort of screetchy on the Fillmore live set, I am neither impressed nor dismayed with what I have heard. Based on what I now know, I will hold out for a used copy of this one. I don't find this terribly thrilling, but I do find it somewhat difficult to listen to (Lu is majorly bummed out, clearly.) And the repetition on
  21. Another album I have not heard, but it is getting great reviews. Also, i am not the least bit disappointed in Modern Times. I like the songs, I like Dylan's delivery and I have listened to it numerous times. It might not be the greatest thing he ever did, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying it for what it is. Every album Dylan puts out may be his last. Dig it while he is still around. Even what I have heard of this Lu album, it is a hard listen. (Particularly Come on...really a low blow so to speak.) LouieB
  22. Just in case we need reminding who is calling it a masterpiece....from the littlebear's mouth. (Maybe we also need to school him on why Dylan IS a great vocalist....and why Louden Wainwright III is a pretty good songwriter, but hardly close to Dylan.) LouieB
  23. You get no argument from me on that. Take it up with the folks who ARE calling it such. LouieB
  24. I borrowed this album (lucinda, not bob which I obviously own) from Laurie's yesterday (Thanks Melissa) and while I have only listened to half of it, I can say categorically it is not bad but it isn't a masterpeice by any stretch of the imagination. More after I listen to the entire thing. LouieB
