  1. The only time I saw them they opened for Centromatic at the Subterranian. It was a weird order though, with Two Cow Garage being the first opener. After getting the crowd worked up, it was difficult for people to focus on GLS, so it was a less than ideal way to see them. LouieB
  2. Very cool, but it is still not clear if these are the Guff Molinex versions or not. Either way I think they will be fun. LouieB
  3. I like alot of people on this list, but just like with the Johnny Paycheck tribute album, it was nearly impossible to figure out it was Jeff singing. This is a wonderful thing for the surviving Louvin Brother, but these projects are rarely as good as the original material (either by the orgininal artist or by those who covered it in new and original ways such as Uncle Tupelo.) I sometimes think we would all be better off buying the reissues of the orginal material. There is another Louvin Brothers tribute CD that's reasonably good too, but without a Louvin Brother on it. Needless to say
  4. I am hoping they start at Ottos again....or did someone say this? LouieB
  5. If someone gets them to me, I will make a copy for you as well. This is the first version of Car Wheels I am looking for, not the demos (although they might be interesting too...) LouieB
  6. I have always wanted to see Sault St. Marie.....but not coming up for this... LouieB
  7. No, I didn't. If you can I would love them though. It wasn't Pitchfork that swayed me (Pitchfork is entertainment not criticism.) In fact I think it was a review in the New Yorker that did it instead. Inevitably I will wait for a used copy to show up, which most things usual do. (Hell I passed up a copy of the Beatles Love in the used bin at Lauries yesterday; that hit the used bins in record time. What I bought instead was a cool two LP set of Miles Davis in Amsterdam in 1957 instead.) LouieB
  8. Montreal!! Many jazz fests include other types of music. LouieB
  9. I have always picked up Lucinda's albums (once I got hip to her) soon after they were released, but this one doesn't sound that great. I felt really burned by World without Tears and after hearing a couple cuts of the live at the Filmore, I completely passed on that one. LouieB
  10. Neko hasn't been in Chicago in a year. It is amazing that she so rarely puts out an album, but they are all good, so I guess we should feel lucky. LouieB
  11. From his website....."The self-titled disc, produced by Mark Nevers (Lambchop, Calexico, Candi Staton) and Charlie Louvin, was recorded in Spring/Summer 2006 in Nashville. It features guest performances by Elvis Costello, Jeff Tweedy, Will Oldham, Tom T. Hall, George Jones, Bobby Bare Sr., Tift Merritt, Marty Stuart, David Kilgour, and members of Bright Eyes, Lambchop, Superchunk, Blanche and Clem Snide, among others. " Older recording artists often do these kinds of albums near the ends of their careers (remember those Sinatra albums when the guy could hardly stand up??) so it is no surpris
  12. The pathetic thing about this story is that Britany is only 25. Already she and her antics have gotten really old. LouieB
  13. My understanding is that they have added a third show in Chicago. Who would have thought she would be so popular?? LouieB
  14. Everyone does the circuit nowdays, so it makes sense that such far flung outposts of culture as Chicago would have heard and seen this group. LouieB
  15. Well obviously some people just cut off their hair for the fashion statement or on a lark, but it can definitely be a sign of major instability. Like I said, I had a room mate who did it and then tried to kill herself and eventually (long after she was my roommate) she did in fact do herself in. LouieB
  16. Someone needs to put this chick on suicide watch..... I had a roommate who did this and she tried to kill herself. Sadly one day she actually did!! LouieB
  17. I sorta figured.....she gave me a copy of the GLS new album...good stuff. LouieB
  18. Nor does shipping tapes to Japan.....last I heard there were planes that flew there.... LouieB
  19. Lots of people coming and going and a few crashes here. Other than that, not much; mostly the same old foolishness. LouieB
  20. Maybe, but don't forget his writing partner Hal David.... LouieB
  21. In this case I assume the previous owner abused it somehow that wasn't obvious. Exactly. LouieB
  22. Any time...I wish I could drink that much...!!! LouieB
